I meant that it was a straight up horror film instead of a horror comedy like Bride of Chucky and Seed of Chucky. Curse of Chucky is also the most well-received Chucky movie on Rotten Tomatoes. Chucky doesn't even speak with his real voice until the halfway point of the film just like in Child's Play.
That was a great decision. Chucky should never have to deal with the antics of a doll that pees itself, dresses up in ladies clothing despite being neither male or female, and does martial arts moves. Chucky's kids should just be forgotten about. I'm perfectly fine with the image of Chucky strangling his son being the last time we see him. Bride and Seed of Chucky would have worked if it was just a straight horror film and they made the right decision by not killing off Andy Barclay since the films with Andy and Chucky in them are the best ones in the franchise and that includes Curse of Chucky since he appears in the final scene of the movie. Another issue with Bride and Seed of Chucky is that Chucky didn't really have a lot to do in those movies. He was stuck in a confined space throughout Bride of Chucky and ended up being a side character in Seed of Chucky. Chucky should be one of the main characters in those movies since his name is in the title and he did start the franchise himself. The Andy character will have a major role in Cult of Chucky and it appears to be similar to Child's Play 2 with Chucky going on a killing spree and with Andy getting more than just a cameo appearance. If Andy could kill Chucky as a kid then he should be able to handle him as an adult even if Chucky does have help. Andy will also have help from the Nica and Alice characters so that should make Cult interesting. Cult of Chucky is a straight horror film just like the last one so it should be a nice throwback to the first 3 Chucky films. The Chucky character was always meant to be more creepy than funny anyway.
The reason the comedy was brought in in Bride was because the franchise was dead after 3 which flopped.Then Scream came along an did great an had alot of humor.So they wanted to reinvent the franchise in that style.Bride was a soft reboot as well.Bride made the most money out of the franchise I believe.So with Seed they wanted to yet again push the comedy an change the style totally different.Because the style change worked in Bride so they thought they could get away with changing it again.But it back fired in Seed.The difference between seed an Bride is that Bride all though tone different then 1-3 was still serious an was still a Chucky film.Were as Seed was a holly wood parody film that happened to star Chucky.Curse is a good return to form.Don the director of Seed Curse an now Cult still likes Seed.But he down plays the connections to it so that it dosent hurt the more horror based new ones.
