  • This video pays tribute to Kay Bullitt who died in August 2021. Kay’s life of extraordinary graciousness and generosity is well-documented in the video which was played at a celebration in her honor on July 20, 2022. PlantAmnesty has developed a special connection to Kay because shortly after our founder Cass Turnbull died in January 2017, Kay generously invited PlantAmnesty to create a garden to honor Cass in the southwest corner of her property on Harvard Avenue East on Capitol Hill.
PlantAmnesty volunteers began work on the garden in July 2017 over the next five years designed and installed a beautiful garden with lovely mature plantings, meandering paths, benches, and quiet secluded areas that provide rest and quiet respite. Kay loved the garden. A Pennsylvania blue stone plaza-The Kay Bullitt Overlook-sits at the garden’s eastern edge and provides a view downslope into the entire garden. The Eleanor Roosevelt saying engraved on the placard was chosen by Kay and captures the spirit of her life of creating good for all.
