There needs to be more videos like this around RUclips, it's where we all come when land locked. Thankyou.

Thanks Chris - I only wish I'd made more videos like this last season! Funnily enough I filmed it more for myself to watch while land locked over the winter than anything else.

Thanks, me too! Just need the Spring to come round again! The boat’s being re-painted so she’ll look a little different next year...hopefully for the better!

    Hi Corin,
Hope you are well and getting some sailing done with the Drascombe.
What is the make/model of your cockpit tent?
    Kind regards,
    Paul.⛵️

Hi Paul, it’s a Eurohike Shadow 250. No idea whether it’s still available or not as tent manufacturers seem to switch out their models with alarming, and irritating frequency. And yes, on the few nice days of weather that coincide with some time off we have had some lovely sails, but we’re yet to find time for an overnight cruise!

@@CorinNelsonSmith Hi Corin. Thanks for the tent info. Looks like it is still for sale👍
      All the best,
      Paul.

Nice video, even minus mainsail :-) You are brave sleeping three aboard a LBC, bravo. Have you thought of attaching the jib sheets simply using bowlines?

Neil Parks Thanks! We only had an hour or so left for sailing so we didn’t want to spend 10 mins of that putting the gaff up and 10 taking it down 😂 I had recently replaced the jib sheets, and did consider having 2 separate lengths attached with bowlines, but I also wanted to try my hand at whipping, so I ended up buying a 9m length of 10mm braid on braid, some whipping twine, and spent a happy hour perfecting the whipping technique! What are the main advantages of having the jib sheets attached with bowlines?

@@CorinNelsonSmith Hi Corin, ah, whippings, seizings and servings, you’re talking my language 😊 Jib sheets attached using snap shackles have been known to come open (when scraped against shrouds or during tacking when jib is flogging). This could lead to a failed tack attempt, with potential for mishap when close quarter manoeuvring: or necessitating a (maybe hazardous) trip to the foredeck to sort it out. And getting clonked on the head by the snap shackle can cause nasty injuries. Bowlines are easy to tie and are secure = less kit to maintain. Not practising what I preach, my outer jib sheets are permanently attached - one length of line with a double seizing close to the sail’s clew. The inner jib sheets are attached using a ‘soft shackle’ which is easily removed after loading, yet is secure in use - more opportunity for seizings etc! Both of these can (more or less) be seen from 10’35” on YT ‘Drascombe Lazybones West Country Cruising’
      Love your music.

Neil Parks Neil Parks Interesting points you make. Nothing like that has happened yet (🤞) as we usually back the jib for a while when tacking. This keeps pressure on the jib almost for the whole tack and no flogging around in the middle of the tack. Also makes tacking much quicker in a boat that doesn’t really like to point to windward! As for being brave to sleep 3 in an LBC, I know a chap who had him, his wife, and their 3 kids on board for a whole week...and in the single berth version of the LBC!
