They think they can hear a difference between more natural tone vs unwanted resonance exchange, but in reality the shell snobs would fail the audio test difference just like your scenario with the others in the group.
No reason it wouldn't work perfectly in the studio :) As a sound engineer, I can tell you most people way underestimate the importance of the room, kit, snare, head selection, and room when recording drums. It's easier to gate everything after you had put a ton of microphones, which cause phase issues, rather than really taking the time to have the perfect sounding kit for the song, unfortunately.
If you're on the fence about this kit...GET IT! Hands-down...the most consistent sounding set I've ever played on or owned. I love the bright attack from the toms and the punch from the kick. I've even heard them tuned like a warm maple and it sounds great. I think any and every drummer should have this set in their arsenal...especially for this price.
Great drums for the money. I recently got a set to use for gigs and rehearsals. Another great thing about the Stage Custom is that add-on toms are ridiculously affordable.
Absolutely agree. I had one many years ago and it was great. Then I bought a Mapex Orion and I used both for a while. Finally, since I didn't have room for both, I had to sell the Yamaha, but I wish I could have kept it, because it was really nice and very versatile (though I usually prefer maple to birch, anyway). And even if it is a "cheap" kit, the Stage Custom can fight with many "high end" kits on a stage. I always recommend it to someone who wants to buy a kit on a budget (begginer or not), and I myself would consider it if I needed to buy a new kit. What I don't like, however, is the lack of options concerning the depths. I know the trend today is shallow sizes, but I am one of those guys who still prefer deeper ones all the way, but I guess it's one of the reason why they can keep a low price on such a kit.
I've had 4 of the kits from 2015,loved them,stupidly sold them,craved for that sound after 1 year so bought a new one,cranberry red,20,10,12,14fltm,added a 16,yeah baby!
I wouldn’t expect anything less from Yamaha. Their quality control is above most brands out there, regardless of the instrument or any other products. It’s in the company’s culture. You have to compare apples to apples so, at this price range, just a few come close. And they are not better, just different, for different tastes. These drums sound and look amazing. Very versatile and handy for intermediate and even seasoned players. Kudos to Yamaha again.
After having been a owner of the 1977 version of the Yamaha 9000 series (that I sold some 40 years ago and still miss it) I finally when to the local Yamaha dealer in Iceland where I live and bought me as a 70th anniversary gift to myself the YAMAHA Stage Custom Series, though I prefered this time to take it with the 20" kick in stead of the 22". Anyway after I had changed from the default Remo skins on the Toms (I prefered again sinced the Pin Stripe sounded so go on my 9000 series) and like I said the Remo Pin Strip see throuh skins. I am very pleased with the overal sound of it here in my apartment on the 12th floor! and so far nobody has complained ;) p.s. I like to play Rock'n'Roll and Fusion Jazz and that kit is just perfect for it

In 1995, I bought the very first stage custom kit to hit San Diego. Red. Played the hell out of it for 22 years. Pinstripes or coated Amb. Both sounded great! Moved on to old drums. The new owner just loves them. Cheers!
Can't count how many backline kits I've walked up to be the one and only yamaha stage custom. Them and dw are the most common backline kits I've seen. And honestly they are killer drums. Yamaha can't make anything bad. They just do good work on EVERYTHING
Love these kits!! Although I don't own a Stage Custom, one of my buddies uses his at one of the local jam sessions. I 've played it many times and still can't believe how good they sound for the price. Also. I recently attended the Chicago Blues festival and they used these kits as back line kits on all their stages. They all sounded awesome miced up!
This gentleman, is a master drummer and better presenter of a kit. He starts playing good and punchy ritims, after that hits every piece of the drum set from soft attacks to the harders. Is the first time that I saw that by any review. So congratulations for that. Is the best demostration of a drum ever.
Yamaha Stage Custom Birch Fantastic Sounding Drums, Lovely Quality. They tune easily with fine heads and tend to bring out the best of the shells in tone rumble & projection.
I bought one of these kits in the summer of 2020. Switched out the stock heads for remo ambassador coated. Powerstroke coated on the snare. Tuned high for bebop. These drums sing!!! Micd or unmicd!!
Thanks again for a great review! I own this kit and I owned many highend sets over the past 30 years. The Sound can keep up with most of these highend kits. The feel while playing and its recordability is even better than most highend kits I owned. In my ears this Stage Custom just sounds awesome under microphones...As a semipro drummer I wouldn't need any other kit....if I wasn't such a gear addict... Please keep up Your fantastic work, Nolly and team at drummers review!
@@harshverma4042 evans ec2 clear sound great on stage custom in my opinion...also remo emperor coated and even ambassador coated are very good ...can't go wrong with either of them....! Have fun!
This drummer is the best drum reviewer on youtube! the way the instrument hits is reality. There are many guys who check snares and hit them out of the habit and use of what is hit.
I sold my 6-piece Starclassic Maple kit for $3500 and got one of these about a year ago and don't regret it one bit. I lost a little bit of sustain, but: - The YESS system is so much easier to position (move the drum where you want it, tighten the wingnut, let go and it stays - you don't have to calculate for how much the drum is going to move when you let go), - Tom depths are better for me - I gained back A COUPLE THOUSAND DOLLARS! I put Evans G1 heads, took the time to tune them once, and haven't had to re-tun them since. Incredible value. I have the Raven Black and the finish quality leaves something to be desired, but that's really my only gripe.
I agree Joseph! I bought the 22,10,12,16 SC, Black Raven. Put new Evans heads on all around. They sound great! Actually the color is nice, I wish maybe a bit more wood grain was prevalent but for the price that's me nit picking. I own a Sonor Aq2 in black also. When the two are side by side I'm actually drawn more towards the Black Raven, kind of pops a bit more, looks great under stage lights also. My SC's are getting more gig time than the Aq2's these days but the Aq2's sound great too! Recently I gigged with the 20' Aq2 bass and used the SC toms, worked out fantastically although I had to use a tom stand because the rack pipes are different sizes ( might flip that scenario soon and see how that works) and really couldn't see the difference in finish unless you got right up on the kit..... Decisions, ...might have to think about letting one or the other go in a year or 3 but for now I'm really happy with both.
I have bought this kit 8 years ago in 2016 including an additional 13" tom and it has never let me down. (my shells are: 22" 16" 13" 12" 10") I've used it for hundreds of rehearsals week in and week out and the tone and fullness I got out of the shells surprised many of my colleagues. It easily survived me playing 40-60 shows a year and although I now switched to playing a fully pro-level Yamaha Tour Custom 8000 kit, the Stage Customs still sit in my cases as my main gigging kit. The snare drum is the only component that I never really used, being the drum of the kit that sounded the least "pro" to my ears. I would also suggest getting rid of the stock Remo UT heads and changing them for anything nice. I have had coated Emperors on the toms for the longest period and always loved the warm and not too ringy tone with those. The bass drum seems to lack a slight bit of low end in comparison to other more pro Yamaha kits but I solved this minor issue by equipping it with a clear Powerstroke 3 head and a fitting fleece blanket inside. The hardware is the same as the one Yamaha uses for their professional kits and I love nothing more than their tom-holder system! I would highly recommend skipping Yamaha's entry-level kits if you have the chance to get your hands on one of these. (And that goes for beginner- and pro drummers!) The price-performance is simply too good with this one and I am yet to find a drumkit from another manufacturer that convinces me nearly as much.
The Stage Customs are amazing and ridiculously cheap considering the value you get for your money. I’d probably outfit them with coated double-ply heads on the toms for smaller live gigs & spend the saved money on decent cymbals and probably another snare. However, there’s really no need to spend more, especially in that price range up to 2k. Last note: A shoutout between some entry level kits is a great idea for a video, guys. I guess a lot of folks would love to see that.
Thank you for the review. I went from a Gretsch Catalina maple to the Stage custom. No regrets at all. This is a nice kit. The hardware and the finish is very good for the price. Thumbs up for this KIT and every thing is great for the money..........................
I played this kit at a friends house and it sounded great. what really stuck me was how nice the drums looked . Beautiful.................and great punch.
What made you take such desicion? I own both kits (Yamaha SC and Gretsch New Catalina Maple) but have to sell one and I'm kinda lost on which one I should let go 😰
While so many manufacturers are set on flash finish, over resonant bright sounding drums, Yamaha rock up with a classy, indestructible kit that looks 10 times its price. I play a Dw collectors and when I see and hear a stage custom I sort of think maybe I should use one of these for gigging. Oh and the cheap Yamaha hardware is on a different level to that of any manufacturer, it’s lightweight and bulletproof I have an old 700 single braced hardware pack on my practice kit and it’s superb. Well done Yamaha this kit sounds superb. A kit that you don’t have to plaster in moongel when using mic’d up. Nolly and team thanks again for yet another outstanding video
These sets are killer. I picked up a "last year's model" for cheap and since I did and like more traditional sizes I cut the bass drum down to a 14" depth. I've had some really nice vintage and higher end drum sets, but this has been the one I come back to again and again.
Hopefully you read this. I'm considering cutting mine down to 14" as well. It seems like the small air port at the top pf the drum may interfere with the drum head frame. Did you have an issue with that? Also how did this affect the sound?
@@leemonster100 It's a bit longer than 14, but I could have gone a little shorter. With the head and hoop on, mark where the head hoop comes back to. Then take the head off and measure the distance from the BE to the mark. This will tell you how how far to need to keep the bearing edge from the vent hole. Once cut, you'll need to plug the old lug holes with dowels and drill new ones. The sound is shorter, punchier, more focused, less boomy.
I bought the Yamaha Custom as a gig kit, so I don't have to worry too much about scratches. Fantastic kit for this price. The only thing I replaced was the YESS system. Somehow I kept having a choked sound. Now, with rims, the toms sing beautifully. 👌
It’s an all around great kit! I bought mine 18 months ago and I’m very satisfied indeed. I love Remo Ambassadors on my snare and toms and Powerstroke on my kick. Beautiful tone and the toms just sing!
how the hell yamaha is underrated? Steve gadd & dave weckl, akira jimbo plays them and the recording custom is the most recorded drum set in history...
Underrated...?? Man, do you know the price (and reputation) of a Recording Custom, a Maple Custom, or a PHX...??? They're not cheap ! However, what you can get in their mid-low / economical range (like this Stage Custom) is the same, or even better, than other brands mid-high / "that bill makes me cry" range.
I love how upset you kids are getting that I called your brand underrated, which it is, regardless of Yamaha's "claims" and naming three endorsers. You know that's a complement right? Saying your brand is better than it gets credit for? and you narcissists get mad cuz it's not enough adulation for your brand. And I guess you guys missed the second part of my comment where I say they are better than what is considered the top American manufacturer and are offered at a better price.. The only thing going against Yamaha right now is their pretentious and self-righteous fans apparently, the type who get mad and feel insulted because their brand wasn't complemented enough.
@@21DaHoagie12 I think you're wrong: 1- I'm not upset. 2- Yamaha is not "my brand". Indeed I have a Mapex. I had a Yamaha 20 years ago and I sold it. 3- When you said it is underrated, I interpreted it literally. When I say it is not, is because €3000-3500 for a standard Recording Custom kit (w/o hardware) or up to €12000 for a PHX (in Europe) is anything but "underrated", and the reputation of the Recording Custom, and the fact that is the most recorded kit is anything but underrated. Also, the fact that Yamaha is the most used kit in back lines (from the economical Stage Custom to the Tour Custom or the Oak Custom), is not exactly being "underrated". They are great drums, and they have a very well earned reputation for that. So if it was meant to be a compliment I think you didn't choose the best expression, but whatever, it doesn't matter. 4- I don't care if you adulate this brand (wich ain't "my brand") or if you shit on it, as I don't care if you adulate or shit on Mapex (the brand I use, but again not "my brand")... I don't work in or own those companies and I don't have any emotional link with them, or any, as brands. I could have with my instrument because it is my instrument, regardeless its brand. I may like some brands more than others, but I don't care about other people preferences. 5- I don't care either if you (or anyone) consider Yamaha better or worse than "the top American manufacturer". I'm not even American, nor Japanesse, and I think that feeling some kind of "patriotic pride" for any brand is a nonsense. 6- I don't get mad and feel insulted because a brand (again, I don't have a "my brand") wasn't complimented enough... or nothing... or too much... or whatever. 7- However, what does bothers me a bit (not enough to keep me from sleep tonight, though) is the fact that you adress to me (and the other guy) with terms like "narcissists" or "self-righteous fans" just because you have, apparently, a problem of understanding and you interpret any disagreement as "geting mad". But hey, keep that attitude, you'll go far in life boy... Bye.
I've owned many Stage Custom drum sets, I currently have two sets of Tour Customs, but I keep coming back to Stage custom. I just received a new Stage Custom kit in deep blue fade, drop dead gorgeous. I'm going to order the 13", 18" toms plus the 24"kick when they are available.
Sounds great. But, as I've said before, ALL the kits you review sound great - well tuned, and through close mics. PLEASE have a short clip on each video where we hear only the room mics/ambient sound - it would be so much more realistic, and easier to compare brands.
This is my dream kit. Great value and Amazing sound and quality for the price. Tommy Igoe, Abe Laboriel Sr. and Dave Weckl have all complimented on the great sound of the Stage Custom. Also the church where I used to play bought a brand new Stage Custom about four years ago. I hope to get one of my own next year.
No Alex I have not been able to buy my Stage Custom kit yet. Last year hit me hard when the school where I was teaching was closed down due to COVID. I have been able to finally build up my student enrollment. I will keep saving and hope to get my kit later this year.
@@groovewithpassiondrumlesso2348 i hope you do. covid hit us all hard, its a bummer you couldnt get it but i have high hopes for u! i am also hoping to buy my stage custom 6pc later this year. good luck!
Thank you for the great review on this kit. This video along with another one on the tube here made me keep my eyes open for a great deal on one of these kits. I have been looking for a dependable, lighter and less expensive gigging kit and I lucked out today and found a large set of Stage Customs today and they look brand new. The price was right so I snatched them up and will be putting them through their paces next week on a New Year's Eve gig. Thank you again for such great content and reviews!
Nolly, thank you for a thorough review. Hearing your comments after listening to the sounds, I thought, man they're being a bit nit picky, but that's the reason I come to Drummer's Review. These drums really record well. I own one of these kits and must say that with clear Emperors all around the toms, the sound is much fatter and tonal. I bought this exact kit in Honey Amber and later added a 20" kick and a 14" floor. I now take it out on gigs as a 20, 12, 14. My Starclassic B/B kit sits at home now, this kit being so satisfying to play. What intervals are you tuning to? I have mine tuned according to your recent tuning video and they sound a bit higher. Is it because going lower helps combat the sympathetic vibration with the SC snare that you mentioned? Thanks again and keep these great reviews coming!
Good review. I agree - if you are into high pitched puchy resonating birch, it is an amazing kit. Being a Yamaha drummer since 1990, I now have my eye on dw....let's see...
So I only have the snare, bought it on a whim when at GC one time maybe a year and a half ago, and it's a good workhorse snare. I grabbed it in part to use out or in studio with my RCs (which are 1983-93 era assorted). I'm still tinkering with and getting better acquainted with the SCB snare but it's been great live under mics and I just threw a die cast batter hoop on today just to see what that does. I agree the strainer isn't super smooth. But overall I've been really glad I grabbed this snare. It's the amber and the finish is indeed great (which only matters if it sounds and feels good too, IMHO). I'd seriously consider getting the full kit and giving my RCs the chance to semi-retire at home and only come out when doing studio recording stuff.
You should hear what the drums sound like after you put on sleeved plastic washes for the tension rods. Changed my sound 180 degrees. Tuning heads is a breeze assuming they ever fall out of tune
I recently bought the bop kit shell pack, upgraded it with die cast hoops. The sound is incredible, also the snare shell is so good! Maybe the only downside is the quality of the factory hoops, but I mean, for the price you can change them!
Such a good drum set. I have one of these with the 14 floor and 20 kick, even the smaller shells can sound great at low tunings. My only wish is that the 20x17 kick was a bit shallower (like a 20x16 or 20x15) but it's not that big of an issue for me. That 10 lug snare is also the best value wood snare on the market for the lowest price.
Sonor make 20x15 bass drums, such a good size. I had a mapex M pro 22x18 and I cut it down to 22x15 myself, so easy to carry through doorways and into my small car.
I can never get my 12" tom to sound that good. Advice please.Same exact kit. It sounds fine off the kit, but horrible when mounted. Its at the end of the hex rod already. Ive changed positions, nothing works.
Probably going to get this, also looking at the sonor aq2 maple set. Both sound amazing but Yamaha has WAY more add on options than any other company I've looked at, 4 kick drums including 24x15, 8 rack toms!!! Including a 16x13! 3 floor toms and 2 snares. Seriously considering getting every shell in this line, it would allow for multiple setup options and would still be cheaper than a high end kit. A ludwig vistalite, my dream kit, is $8000 in NZ! so no for now on that haha. I'd probably spend half that on the entire SC Birch range, probably less
Hey Zeppelin...I was wondering what kit you went with...I have both Sonor Aq2's and Stage Customs...Love them both, but Yamaha SC's are the only kit I've owned more than once. I actually sold my new Mapex Saturn kit for them. Never Regretted It...They sound amazing, and they'll take any heads you like. Hope you had the chance to finally get them. And yes, the add-on choices for the $$ are the best:) Cheers.
I love these drums. There is no better material for a rock base drum than birch. And these stage custom base drums have incredible attack. I do agree with Nolly that the tone can be lacking especially for the toms. At their price point you just can't do better than the stage custom and maple tour custom kits from Yamaha. Although I think special mention should be given to the PDP birch kit from DW. Also a great value for the money.
This kit included with HW780 hardware pack would be around 1,270 GBP. It's slightly more expensive but still a nicely default choice for such a kit. Thank for the review. PS. Finger crossed for the dw Design Series due to it directly competed with the new Tour Custom. Cheer!
Got a birch bop kit in Raven Black. I got it second hand on a really good deal to turn the 18" kick into a trigger pad for he ekit. But I felt conflicted when I got it, seems a shame to turn a great little small kit (which I could definitely use for small spaces) reduced to being a trigger pad. Because Yamaha make superb drums at all levels, and the Stage Custom Birch Bop kit sounded fantastic, and this is next to my main acc kit of Tama Starclassic Maple.
That is what I did, not disappointed at all, I actually prefer my stage custom now. One thing that is nice is that if you are looking into adding drums later onto your kit the drums available are easy access thru guitar center/Sweetwater/musician's friend. You can even get a 18" floor tom for only $190 w/o tax, of course. I've had my kit for since February 2019 and have been able to upgrade it to a 7-piece by the end of last year. If you want to see some of my recordings I have made (not that they're super great, I have limited mics) Check my channel.

I like to play Rock'n'Roll and Fusion Jazz and that kit is just perfect for it
i have played for 49 years and i love my stage customs.use them for everything and totaly versatle.nice punch/control/and focused mid range tone.tuned low/mid/or in the bebop range they allways sound great.for me works in any gig or studio situation.way above its price point!a classy detailed birch kit for low dow!thanks for the positive review!
@matthew gonano drums
Totally agree with you , it's a very very versatile kit . Great sounding kit .
In 1995, I bought the very first stage custom kit to hit San Diego. Red. Played the hell out of it for 22 years. Pinstripes or coated Amb. Both sounded great! Moved on to old drums. The new owner just loves them. Cheers!
That floor tom sounds like Benny Greb's floor tom. Awesome rumble!
Yamaha just does it right. Their hardware is second to none in my book.
He starts playing good and punchy
ritims, after that hits every piece of the drum set from soft attacks to the harders.
Is the first time that I saw that by any review. So congratulations for that. Is the best demostration of a drum ever.
Nick D'Virgilio from Sweetwater has entered the conversation....
I don't know of a better sounding drum kit for the money. Wow!
Hey could you please suggest what heads to put on the Stage Customs? I prefer warmer. So I am hoping 2ply heads. But dunno much else.
@@harshverma4042 evans ec2 clear sound great on stage custom in my opinion...also remo emperor coated and even ambassador coated are very good ...can't go wrong with either of them....! Have fun!
I don't think I've ever heard drums that sound significantly better than these.
Had one of these since the late 90s, still love mine. My kids are even playing it now. Coupled with some Zildjian K Custom Dark set and its hooked!
I lost a little bit of sustain, but:
- The YESS system is so much easier to position (move the drum where you want it, tighten the wingnut, let go and it stays - you don't have to calculate for how much the drum is going to move when you let go),
- Tom depths are better for me
- I gained back A COUPLE THOUSAND DOLLARS!
I put Evans G1 heads, took the time to tune them once, and haven't had to re-tun them since. Incredible value. I have the Raven Black and the finish quality leaves something to be desired, but that's really my only gripe.
The Tama Starclassic always had too much sustain to my taste - especially the floor tom, uncontrollable...!
Hey vsauce, Michael here
Hahahaaaaa
LOL
I have bought this kit 8 years ago in 2016 including an additional 13" tom and it has never let me down.
(my shells are: 22" 16" 13" 12" 10")
I've used it for hundreds of rehearsals week in and week out and the tone and fullness I got out of the shells surprised many of my colleagues.
Definitely a drum kit that punches above its price tag. Great sounding!
And - as usual - a quality review once again
Just got this kit not long ago, and even with the stock heads they sound great
Yes they do so just imagine how much better they sound with out cheap Chinese heads .
@@01dukester *Japanese
Just bought mine in the color. Beautiful cranberry red!
This is exactly what I was thinking. I'm probably going to get this kit and slap some onyx heads on the toms.
I have this kit. It sounds great! Highly recommended.
I own both kits (Yamaha SC and Gretsch New Catalina Maple) but have to sell one and I'm kinda lost on which one I should let go 😰
Same here! The Gretsche was nice and sounded great but you can't beat a birch Yamaha!
@@vjgarate I chose the Yamaha SC. The hardware is really top notch, holds better, no visible pits and so on.
Currently I own a 7-piece Catalina maple and I’m on the fence about selling it to buy a Yamaha SC. Should I?
Just ordered this kit in raven black!!! Super excited! Can’t wait to play them!!! 🤘🏼🥁
I’ve owned 4 sets and still have my 2011 SCB and love how warm they are.
It’s an all around great kit! I bought mine 18 months ago and I’m very satisfied indeed. I love Remo Ambassadors on my snare and toms and Powerstroke on my kick. Beautiful tone and the toms just sing!
Yamaha is an underrated drum company, I'd take a Yamaha over a DW kit any day of the week and I'd save money while doing it :D
how the hell yamaha is underrated?
@@21DaHoagie12 I think you're wrong:
1- I'm not upset.
Bye.
@@21DaHoagie12 Are you projecting your feelins on us...? Poor child, you must have a sad and lonely life...
This was my very first set, this same color. And when i put Evans G2 clear, it sounded amazing !
Sounds great. But, as I've said before, ALL the kits you review sound great - well tuned, and through close mics. PLEASE have a short clip on each video where we hear only the room mics/ambient sound - it would be so much more realistic, and easier to compare brands.
Great point any drum set will sound great with there mic setup , Why can't they just play the drums naturally
Nice clip I just bought one just like it I added a 8 inch tom and a 14 inch floor tom .
Love these kits, I’m surprised it took so long to get one on the channel! These videos are always worth the wait though.
I hope to get one of my own next year.
its a year later did u get this kit?
No Alex I have not been able to buy my Stage Custom kit yet. Last year hit me hard when the school where I was teaching was closed down due to COVID. I have been able to finally build up my student enrollment. I will keep saving and hope to get my kit later this year.
@@groovewithpassiondrumlesso2348 i hope you do. covid hit us all hard, its a bummer you couldnt get it but i have high hopes for u! i am also hoping to buy my stage custom 6pc later this year. good luck!
Thank you Alex. I appreciate the encouragement. I really hope that you get your 6 piece kit this year. By the way my name is John.
@@groovewithpassiondrumlesso2348 Well John, keep me posted, and I'll do the same. Good luck!
I own a Stage Custom kit. Fantastic kit! I have heard many people say for the price it a great kit. It is a great regardless of price.
I absolutelly love these drums! It's the best value for the money!
My stage custom from the 90s. Marine green. Best sounding kit ever.
This sounds fantastic, much better then the pearl export.
Definitely haha
Lol, Pearl are garbage cans, especially at the lower to mid-range price points.
Sold my last SC kit and my new one comes in next week. Cannot wait. I got the zildjian A cymbal pack, hopefully will like them.
Ordered this kit today. Can't wait for delivery. This review helped me decide that this was the kit for me.
What heads did you settle on? I know this was a year ago, though I’d ask any way. Ordered one a few days ago 😬
@@louiscromwell9246 ive still got the stock heads, they suit my purpose fine. Enjoy your kit.
@@louiscromwell9246 did you like the kit? I'm thinking of getting it
I can imagine this kit in a studio situation. Nice sound.
I'm fairly well off financially. But I still purchased this kit. It's just such an amazing value. Thanks Drummer's Review!
Smart financial choice , = $ for great cymbals , and snares. lol
Saving up for this kit. Sounds AMAZING
You won't be disappointed. I just got my kit and I love it.
I promise you that it’ll be an amazing investment. I’ve had mine for 5 years and I’ve had ZERO issues you really can’t beat it for the price.
@@ethanhayes3474 I’ve owned this kit for a year now, same colour , never failed to deliver an amazing sound!
Good review. I agree - if you are into high pitched puchy resonating birch, it is an amazing kit. Being a Yamaha drummer since 1990, I now have my eye on dw....let's see...
I'm glad that you made this video, I had a hard time trying to decide on a kit between this stage custom and mapex armory. I went with the armory.
I was stuck between those two as well and also went with the armory because I found the 6 piece for 670 on reverb. I absolutely love them
This kit sounds as good as any birch kit out there. This is no beginner kit
This kit is super versatile and in terms of sound this kit can match drums that cost 5X and 7X more expensive.
A very good kit at a affordable price. Save your money for cymbals, that's where your going to spend some serious Dow.!!!
I love the way the toms sound. Looks like my next set will be a Yamaha.
I come here for Nollie's voice, the outstanding playing, and exemplary sound engineering.
Bought ours yesterday, can't wait to get started!!🥁
You should hear what the drums sound like after you put on sleeved plastic washes for the tension rods. Changed my sound 180 degrees. Tuning heads is a breeze assuming they ever fall out of tune
I recently bought the bop kit shell pack, upgraded it with die cast hoops. The sound is incredible, also the snare shell is so good! Maybe the only downside is the quality of the factory hoops, but I mean, for the price you can change them!
I also bought the bop kit recently and an add-on 10x7. How do you find the die cast on them?
I was thinking of upgrading to 2.3mm hoops.
Almighty Tomato do you have any pics of that?
Such a good drum set. I have one of these with the 14 floor and 20 kick, even the smaller shells can sound great at low tunings. My only wish is that the 20x17 kick was a bit shallower (like a 20x16 or 20x15) but it's not that big of an issue for me. That 10 lug snare is also the best value wood snare on the market for the lowest price.
Sonor make 20x15 bass drums, such a good size. I had a mapex M pro 22x18 and I cut it down to 22x15 myself, so easy to carry through doorways and into my small car.
Yep that snare sounds killer!
These drums sound great! I might get a Yamaha drum set in the future.
These drums are fine as sold but improve dramatically when fitted with high-quality heads.
Just grabbed this kit on a great deal from Drummers Only for a teaching kit! Great comprehensive review as always!
Wow, these have come on a lot since I used to own one nearly 20 years ago!
I've had both. The Yamaha. They love any type of drumhead! Best of luck:)
That drummer is fantastic!
The drummer looks exactly like my middle school gym teacher! Nice review
Thank you for the excellent review! Exactly what I was looking for and convinced me to buy this set. Appreciate it!
Mounting the toms on yamahas extra long tom arm drastically increases the sustain
Gotta say that kit sounds immense.. I have and old original pearl masters and a C&C custom kit... But I was well impressed with the sounds here 👌
This kit sounds like it would be great for blues & jazz!!
i got a set from the 90's in a natural stain finish. always had people luv'en the sound. i stretch my snare as high as it will go.. slap!
Great drums for the money. I’d bet even more body and projection could be derived by recutting the bearing edges.
Thnx to god for i found a best channel specially for drums
Yamaha is an amazing company making great gear.
I can never get my 12" tom to sound that good. Advice please.Same exact kit. It sounds fine off the kit, but horrible when mounted. Its at the end of the hex rod already. Ive changed positions, nothing works.
Man, do they sound great!
Nice set with great sound. He is also a very skilled drummer.
Sounds so good, would especially love a set of the Josephson e22s mics!
Dieses Schlagzeug hört sich wirklich gut an , eine sehr gute Vorstellung , Daumen hoch
The best part about this is that this drum kit is only 680 dollars on Sweetwater. Im already half way there :)
@@jeffsadowski7759 I really can't decide between getting a yamaha stage custom and the sonor aq2 - what is your choice, if you had to pick one? Cheers
Brilliant kit but I like the Mapex armory more. The only problem I got with that one is that it is more expensive
Fans of your drum reviews. Please Review the mic too sir.
Have you noticed on a lot of well known singers in concert, drummers often use Yamaha or DW kits.
Probably the more expensive models.
Like these, Tama SLP and Mapex Black Panther lines, are very affordable drum sets, which sound great...especially for the money.
The kit is beautiful and so is the guy giving the description lol! It’s the accent for me! Lol 😍
Would it be better to pick this kit instead of tama super star classic?
That is what I did, not disappointed at all, I actually prefer my stage custom now. One thing that is nice is that if you are looking into adding drums later onto your kit the drums available are easy access thru guitar center/Sweetwater/musician's friend. You can even get a 18" floor tom for only $190 w/o tax, of course. I've had my kit for since February 2019 and have been able to upgrade it to a 7-piece by the end of last year. If you want to see some of my recordings I have made (not that they're super great, I have limited mics) Check my channel.
