Used to be the motel Lincoln. My grandfather owned it and the old hotel Lincoln around the corner, home of the Mirror Lounge. Now just a parking lot. Original sign donated to wildwood historical society.
another place to drink and be rowdy especially since it's the heart of the city and it's outside so just another hangout... miss the old days when it was all about family..
Hey Joey, thanks as here's another informative video. My wife & I think this is going to be great. We frequent the awesome Pink Cadillac Diner right across the street and see this new Tiki project seems to be in an optimum location. We hope they serve true Tiki mixed drinks & snack-type fare. We'd love it if it were family-friendly allowing kids under 18 and doggies too (one can dream). Is there any info/link of where any of the furniture, etc., from the motel will be available for sale or will it just be donated, tossed? My wife would also love to know if there's any type of shop in WW that sells fake palm tress and other discarded objects from past motels?..thanks
Interesting, I wonder the same thing. For me, it’s all the electronic components. Phones, TVs, computer equipment… All that stuff. As far as I know a lot of times, that stuff will simply go along with the demolition. Really sad… Such a waste.
we stayed at Ocean Sands in 2014 and the proximity to the boardwalk is why we stayed there. it was our first and last time staying in Wildwood. we did Crest before and will only do Crest after our stay. i don't remember much about the room other than a filthy blue carpet that left our feet black after a few minutes of walking on it. i'm a bit sad to see it go only because i agree with other commenters that Wildwood is loosing motels to condos and projects like these. my assumption is with the supply and demand it's going to be a bit harder to book in WW but also more expensive. we go down a few times a year, and while i can't speak for my wife, i feel like WW isn't the worth what it's been asking.
All the motels were made in the USA with hardworking everyday people before big corporations came and took them one by one sadly. They were all happy because they were to provide a service for the tourists that were coming from all miles around the USA but also the world.
Now only go to Wildwood Crest for 3 or 4 days and two separate weeks down much cleaner quieter & triple the # of good restaurants Ocean City MD. For some reason all of the 5 to 12 story motels built there in last 20 years unfortunately had 90% of the workers from some other country. Only the foremen were tax paying American citizens. Sad.
Ive been coming to the Wildwoods since I'm 12 and that motel perfectly encapsulates why I fell in love with the area. That being said, change is inevitable and after visiting Somers Point and making the decision to move there, I know this place will do great for the island
I worked there doing maintenance for 6 years and for me was so pleasant to see hole families enjoying the pool, picnic area having great times, but now........ its a shame this is going to be a tiki bar where a lot of drunk people will make streets more dangerous that they are already. WILDWOOD DOESN'T NEED MORE TIKI BARS(they are in every corner already) IT NEEDS MORE RELAXING PLACES FOR THE HOLE FAMILIES where they can be all together. 😢😢😢😢😢
@@WildwoodVideoArchive Thanks for the boardwalk info. Wildwood authorities might not have done there homework before signing off on the project. Surprised they waited until middle of August to post bidding on that. No problem first couple of weeks while only performing demo work but wonder how long it now takes to have truck loads of wood delivered. Thank God lumber prices have come down since sky high prices two years ago. Heard electricians still are having problems securing equipment.
It would be awesome if they actually involved someone who builds more authentic tiki bars. Like the new Don the Beachcomber in Orlando is gonna be epic.
The things that people need to keep in mind is that many of these older motel/hotels are also in need of very costly upgrades and modernization. That is one of the reasons why motel/hotel owners do decide to sell because the condition of the property is going to mean a potential $3-$5 million project they will need to take on and it doesn't help that they cannot afford to be closed during the main season redoing their property either so it sort of put them in a rough situation.
We have a place in WW and really excited for another cool place. There’s tons of motels/hotels all over, many of which are eyesores. Rarely do motels make a town nicer so this will be a great replacement. I worry about it being all outside though… Limits it to only warm seasons and sunny days. Hopefully I’m wrong!
If you have been to either of the other two point bats in Somerville Pointe or Sea Isle you’ll know the run a first class operation. I’ll miss the old motels, but as someone commented the price to rehab is outrageous these days This operation should lift the values in the neighborhood.
We stayed at similar hotel years ago during a busy week. Was very convenient with young kids having a first floor room in front of the swimming pool. Bad thing the also had a parking lot in rear like that place. Several times after midnight drunks parking & yelling just outside the bedroom window woke us up every night. We never wasted our money on a hotel set up like that.
I realized that towards the end of your video. Still, the sign could do well in someones garage. Hint....hint. Are you in contact with anyone related to the demolition of this site? If the sign is going to get tossed...I'm sure we can find a home for it real easy.@@WildwoodVideoArchive
we stay on the next block over every summer and use this block as our boardwalk entrance. It will be sad to see fake palm trees instead of the motel with a dolphin sign, we are also worried the prices could go up in the 'run down area' that we love so much just the way it is. It is good to see the area progress and for new exciting things to come to wildwood, just wish they picked a different area. Thanks as always for your hard work and effort.
Why, why, why??? We need motels in wildwood, our original place of relaxation n fun. You guys keep building condos n townhouses n none of us senior citizens can afford, so we lose our good memories😢😢😢😢😢
I agree with everyone who has started a dream which was to open a motel in Wildwood just as it was demolished for something fun but the motels were what made Wildwood unique from other places around the world.
It's all about money. Joey, sorry I don't buy it that everyone wants another bar in Wildwood. One more chance that someone will leave the bar sh*tfaced and ruin someone else's life. 👎
@mariewright4882, we as seniors are not viable anymore. We are disposable. They want the young, drinking crowd so they can pour their disposable income into the politician's coffers.
What bars? Lol. Theres barely any bars in wildwood compared to other shore towns. The tiki bar is one of the better things to happen to wildwood. Wildwood needs an update big time.
I’m sorry but this is an absolute disaster if you are staying at any of the nearby motels. My family is currently staying at the blue palms because it has always been a very family friendly motel. The music playing at this place across the street is insanely loud. We have small children. We will not be able to come back to the blue palms if this continues like this. Someone did not think this through all the way. It’s a shame because we love the blue palms. I feel that they may lose business because of this.
Always hate to see these old motels go away but, if they're past their prime and have not been maintained, people should welcome the "new" Tiki themed buildings.
Another noisy WW bar in a town saturated with bars. Another 1950s-60s motel albeit without a lot of historic features gone. I understand the economics but WW and the whole area is turning into bars and cookie-cutter condo hell. And a 100% outside bar will wind up being used maybe April to October. Maybe. I saw in October the replacement for Kelly's the Copper whatever was already closed.
Thanks Joey, I guess its progress, but I like the old days.
That's going to be a rather nice addition to The Wildwoods. Thanks again for another great video Joey.
Thank you for the update
We love your Etsy shop and purchased an ornament! Thanks for the video, always great information and entertaining.

Think uts a Great idea! Sounds like a new n fun idea
"Ocean Sands" what an iconic name for a motel.

The Tiki bar looks like it's going to be so nice. Can't wait for its completion. Thanks for the update and another great video.
Love this motel, loved staying here every year. So very sad this is happening 😢
Another one bites the dust 😢
This looks awesome! Love a good tiki bar!

Families with holes shouldn’t be at tiki bars.
@@GrandmaJanetFrmAnotherPlanetNYthey’ll be able to drink more
Everything is based on drinking that’s what it’s all about
I made a hotel out of Lego for my city and I looked really similar to this, I might’ve used this for inspiration. I only had pictures to go off of
Great! Another motel demolished for an outdoor tiki bar. Whoopee! Like they really need another one. This is ridonkulous!
I will be making my first visit to Wildwoods this summer and as a tiki fanatic I’m excited. Too bad I will have my kids in tow!
Thanks Joey. What's going on with the boardwalk reconstruction project ?
Hey! Here is the latest - wildwoodvideoarchive.com/wildwood-boardwalk-project-paused-due-to-lawsuit/

That doesn't aply for this place, with some cheap upgrades could be up another 20 years but unfortunately the world is just drinking drinking. 😢😢
It's sad to lose another motel in Wildwood.
I disagree. Theres tons of them.

Haha so huge it’s hilarious that there’s so few parking spots.
I was at the motel back in 2015 and 2022.
Because Wildwood needs another bar.
{eye roll}
I hope at least they save the Sand's Neon Sign !!!!
They didn’t have neon as far as I can see

Thanks Joey. I don't think they have much parking.

Too sad. Was this always Ocean Sands? We have stayed at the Blue Palms just up a block and that has been at least 2 or 3 iterations.
Sad to see another motel get demolished for something not needed
Seaguils, Pigeons, and rain. Is that a problem for open air clubs?
That building looks like it's still in pretty good shape it's a shame it has to go everything today is upgrade😊
Doesn’t sound like a lot of parking. Rather have a motel instead of bar. 😢
Save the hotel and move the bar elsewhere
They keep on taking away the motels for bars , condominiums you are taking away from feeling like the beach.
Yea seeing people hang around their motel pool all day really feels like a beach

When is it supposed to open?
Leave the motels alone. I really think we have enough bars at the beach.
You had the option to buy it and keep it as a motel.
What bars? Lol. Theres barely any bars in wildwood compared to other shore towns. The tiki bar is one of the better things to happen to wildwood. Wildwood needs an update big time.
Wildwood does need an update but not another bar.
Loads more drunk drivers on the road

NOTHING tiki about this bar. Beach bar does NOT equal tiki bar.

Too bad can’t at least rebuild a replica rather than a bar
Wildwood need cheap motels
Yes it should go ghetto right? SMH
So sad. Great location. But needed some updates, which I am sure could have been accomplished.
5 million dollars for upgrades. Do you have that than you should have bought it.
This is incredibly depressing, Wildwood is being destroyed more and more each passing year.
The island is slowly being ruined
Wish stop take down the motels

Seaside I can understand but leave that motel ALONE 😢
No one wants to spend $5 million to update a dilapidated motel.
EXCITED for a tiki bar?🤢🤢🤢
