There is no denying that Jak & Daxter is the messiah of the PlayStation console. The gameplay, soundtrack, and storyline are impeccably designed for having a rich and solid game! 🙏♾️
If they ever remake these games, they better not forget about the fluidity of the movement being a staple of the series. Different combinations lead into various ways of getting around.
@@OneTwoMarkCompletely agree. And it really is time they remaster the series. Thinking about this game with a current-gen engine and graphics, maybe some extra post-game content is just exciting to think about. No reason Jak and Daxter can’t be successful in the modern climate like Ratchet and Clank is.
Exactly, something that Ratchet and Sly lacked. Unfortunately I don't trust modern gaming physics engine though to even be on onpar with the excellence of the original, especially if done by any relatively small studio. If you look at just about any remake of a classic, the physic engines are typically inferior: SotC, Medevil, Spyro Reignted Trilogy, Crash Bandicoot N'Sane Trilogy, Crash Team Racing: Nitro Fueled, Dead Space remake, etc. It's actually one of many valid reasons why I'm anti-remakes, but that's another topic.
@@trapez77 Partly agree. That'd be doubly insulting... On one hand that'd be saying essentially we no longer care for the series and/or think it's worth developing anymore games for it. In the other hand you're blatantly ignoring the fans and the demand along with it for a Jak sequel (which has been going on for decades). There's actually a ton more reasons why it's more insulting, but the point was made. I personally don't want Naughty Dog to touch the IP, at least not until they have a heavy internal staff restructure. Physics (and gameplay) is but only one concern. But I also want a new Jak game. It's nonsensical that Jak has both not gotten a proper sequel since the same generation it was created on and that the series hasn't seen at least one sequel on next gen hardware. Jak is also the only Naughty Dog IP that hasn't had any next gen installments: Crash, Uncharted, and TLOU had theirs. Jak and Daxter, of all damn video game series, stuck on PS2 technology, while Crash, Spyro, Sonic, SHANTAE, Megaman, Mario, Kratos (God of War), Twisted Metal, Tomb Raider, Donkey Kong, Prince of Persia, OKAMI, ofc Ratchet & Clank, the list goes on (Sly Cooper too!).... have crossed over to succeeding generational hardware. I'm not asking for a whole new trilogy or series (though obviously that'd be nice), but just at least Jak's own Tools of Destruction, Crack in Time, or Rift Apart. Jak is undeniably owed at least one AAA sequel. It's objectively overdue.
@@windy3935 after 3 games I don’t think companies should feel obligated to make more after that, because where does it end? 15 years later people will be demanding Jak 5 then 6. We are lucky that we even got Jak x, daxter, and lost frontier.
I really liked Jak 2 and Jak 3, but yeah I would have loved a sequel in the same style as the first one. It’s a shame we don’t have more mainline games in the franchise
This game and Gran Turismo 3 are imo the singlest biggest leap of 3d technology in history. GT3 did a full on graphical overhaul and physics overhaul in just a single year, and JaD arguably started the feeling of true modern open worlds while running better and looking better than even linear games seen previously. Hell i still think the draw distance and animation still holds up if we ignore the low poly (for modern standards). For years, even in that era i heard the PS2 was a "weak mess", but back in the day i remember to had a Pentium 3 with a Geforce 2 GTS and 256mb of RAM and it couldnt come close to match this level of fidelity in any game, lol. I admit i stuck with consoles for a long time... Gameplay wise, may be unpopular, but this was my true vision of Crash 4. No WOC, Twinsanity or IAT level can gave me that mystical 90s itch with accesible gameplay and groundbreaking technical aspects only ND could gave me. As much as i love Jak 2, or any other of the ND games, i miss the old classic 1996-2001 ND era.
Completely agree with everything said above! I will never forget that “feeling” of truly running around in an open, seamless world for the first time as a kid, feeling like I could do anything I wanted. I felt similarly as I played through games like BotW, Skyrim, and Fallout, but Jak and Daxter really was that first one for me. It really changed the game. And I love the shoutout to GT3, another one of those classic games from this era of gaming. Could play it for hours and hours
jak 1 is my favorite game on series because the game puts more emphasis in platforming, is cozy and colorful .. didn't like the direction in jak 2 and 3 .
It really was a different vibe than the rest of the series. I’m glad 2 and 3 exist because I personally really enjoy them, but I do wish we could have had more jak and Daxter style games. Like we could have had a trilogy of the cozy and colorful followed by a trilogy of dark and edgey.
It's funny. Apart from some difficulty spikes on the hoverbike, I can't think of any kind of fundamental flaw with this game. I really is a perfection of the genre.
That’s what I’m saying man! It’s just such a fantastic game from start to finish, maybe it’s a little too short? But you can’t really fault it for that
Jak and Daxter to me it’s perfect because it’s a really good game and truly feels like an adventure in this really cool world.
I agree. The gameplay loop is so consistently satisfying.
Jak 2 is my favorite when it comes to the story, but the first game just has that certain charm that the other games will mostly abandon.
There is no denying that Jak & Daxter is the messiah of the PlayStation console. The gameplay, soundtrack, and storyline are impeccably designed for having a rich and solid game! 🙏♾️
The best thing about it is the connected world that makes it feel like you’re going on a real journey or an odyssey if you will
100%!!! The world really was immersive because of that
ND won a guiness world record because of that. It was genuinely groundbreaking stuff.

@@windy3935that’s why they should make a spiritual successor, because if they try to recreate it exactly as it was, they will fail

Great video!!! Love jak and Daxter
@@retrogamer_97 thank you!❤️
The demo for this game was amazing and sucked me in immediately.
Yeah, and i played this demo after Crash back in the day. The jump from PS1 to PS2 was astronomical.
