You can tell James was set free from something ever since that movie came out. Like more life got pumped into him and he's more positive about everything
Probably the extra millions of dollars in his bank from it
@@flonker5961 I don't think James is like that though. I mean they were rich long before that. Maybe Lars tho
@@flonker5961 they were already millionaires when justice came out
Definitely. It made him very vulnerable, and for someone going through hell, breaking yourself down into tiny little pieces then rebuilding can have drastic changes. In James' case it made changes for sure.
Well duh he got rid of his addiction with alcohol.
In every single interview I've seen with him, he seems 100% honest.
I always knew it took huge balls for Metallica to film that and release it to the world to see! It was obviously good for James and the rest of the band AND hopefully gives those who are struggling with whatever demons a hope that they can overcome those demons and live a better life.
I mean the documentary really made you feel sorry for Jason Newsted who got treated like dirt by Lars & James, Newsted deserves the flowers
Easy to tell from a clip like this that James is speaking to an interviewer from a country overseas. James makes a point to be clear and enunciate more when talking to a broad abroad.
Recently watched Some kind of Monster again.
It gets better with each viewing, and 20 years later, I understand it more than when it was initially released.
You can literally see something different every time you watch it.
a friend gifted it to me on my 15th birthday and I'm so glad he did. I definitely took a lot of interesting things from it back then and I still do now, I also rewatched it recently and it's so underrated.
@@Nestorglass 100%!
What other band would dare show themselves almost dissolving to their fans?
And to come out even better for that exposure, amazing!! 🙏
It broke Metallica to me, grown man crying about missing rehearsals and how much of a man baby James was
@@EduFirenzehe was being kinda bitchy when he got out of rehab but he dared to be shown in that light on the movie, and still pulled through.
Back in 87 I had a Damage Inc. shirt that had the lyric "honesty is my only excuse" printed on it.
Hetfield has always been true to that.
Which makes him great.
Great Thin Lizzy song
PerHamar.. honesty is 'no' excuse. Ha Close enough damn it! 🍺
I really love seeing James reflect on this. His words are so correct and everything. No one would want to be filmed during their worst times in life
"The free man has no secrets."
Just cause your Metal doesn't mean that you don't have a Soul, where still Human ❤
Your so right
In a world of celebrity worship, James is the only one that I can think of that I'd like to meet. Seems like the kind of guy that you could have an actual conversation with.
If anything, I have more respect for a man not afraid or ashamed of his emotions. It's very painful to lose your Mother. Sorry for your loss. Hugs
James is such a wonderful man ( from what i know of him)
I wish i could met him once
Peeling back the layers and never coming back from it.
Brother thank you for the channel. James Hetfield has helped me through his words in lyrics and also interviews like this. Metallica is the most amazing band with the most interesting people. Preciate you man.
Ya I totally agree with and understand wat you are saying and this is my this man has been my hero more than 30 years of my life
I’ve got so much respect for him. He’s so mature, now. It’s sad when the phony people bash that era they went through and said they’re weak for that.
They are the ones who are weak to not admit they’re not perfect. Not only that, it’s immature.
There’s some real jerks on the internet that complained that James showed emotion. That he was a human, not this idea they have about a performer. It’s ridiculous.
Props to the interviewer. I don't understand how so few interviewers understand that if you just nod and smile, whomever you're talking to with just GO. Just let em go. If you don't interject they will fill the dead air and keep talking, I promise lol.
one thing that people always have to remember is that every band has their own "Some Kind of Monster" but they just never filmed them.
the petty fights, the arguments, the vulnerable stuff, all of it.
Have always wanted to meet Jaymz, since the 80’s. Maybe some day
witchfinder general shirt!
I love the subtitles :) "The Mighty Hatfield", hahahaha!
He looks happy and relieved here. I like this video.
Now I really gotta watch the movie. 🤘
I think when Metallica was on the verge of splitting up & they all went through therapy , all of them were going through a mid life crisis & it all just crashed together & it didn’t help when Jason left the band , it just added fuel to the fire . I can see both sides Jason’s & James situation James wanted Jason to be all in with Metallica & Jason wanted to do side projects with his other band when Metallica had down time & James wasn’t having it so Jason left the band . Sometimes a passion gets ahold of us & it makes you decide what path in life to take . I think that Jason didn’t like where the band was going & I don’t think he wanted to go through therapy with Metallica plus the band kinda dogged Jason’s bass playing on in justice for all & the black album & he seen it coming . I’m so glad they picked Robert for the band , he was in Suicidal Tendencies & is one hell of a bass player . Good to see that they didn’t break up .
I will always love him.
the thing that i hated most was how James and Lars treated Jason
People way over exaggerate this. They didn't treat Jason badly. They used to haze him pretty good in the beginning but it was clear through the 90s him and James were pretty close and good friends and would do interviews together alot and they'd let Jason take the lead talking etc. People have this distorted memory of Jason being treated horrible and that really wasn't the case.
Lars was pretty cool to Jason.
Well said and your a role model, James. We are One under the black flag ✌️ 🏴 🤘 🇦🇺
Thank you Het!
When is this clip from?
James, you are a legend & worthy of being in this world! Many hundreds of thousands are thankful that you are!
🤘😎🤘
Real talk
James is the Goat man.
where is this interview from?
Witchfinder General Tee shirt,,luv it..
No, bullsh*t that's the James Hatfield i've always seen. It's his strongest suit and the BIGGEST reason i watch ALL these videos with him in it.
He gets better as he grows... right fucking on....
He's right though, if you have a problem and you know it, it takes enormous bravery to let others see and show that to you.
I love ❤️ his vulnerability
SKoM was the precursor for a lot of the reality TV we see today.
I'm no Metallica fan but SKOM is the best music documentary ever.
The thing about all the members of Metallica is that they are for real. They are not phony in any way, they are not an act. That is what being metal is all about.
I believe if it wasn’t for that movie being made, metallica would have broken up. Metallica and the guys are better for it. You can tell that James feels so free now.
Yeah this life is hell no one is truly happy.
Here's the thing about James Hetfield. He is a human.
Top Bloke
James is cool af
getting sober, its amazing, If you do it right, it REQUIRES admitting your fears, faults, and wrongs to God and another person, coming clean from alcohol and drugs, those demons that have controlled you. Now you control them. you are free, that is what its about. !
He reminds me of Rodney Mullen in this video.
I don't know about you, but I see a clever man dodging his way through the slings and arrows. In what would seem the worst possible examples, but only he knows his actual worst examples have yet to come. He values the strength he knows he has to outlast us all and be on top. Still Broken and whole.
Was this filmed with a potato
An individual doesn't self reflect on their self image. They simply reflect on their self image.
Band should have ended in 1989. But then again we would have lost out on so much comedy.
Het must have some Italian genetics by the way he uses his hands
💟 💟 💟 💟 💟 💟 💟 💟 💟 💟
Mighty hetfield lol
Some kind of monster was basically a bunch of pampered man children crying and fighting in their big playpen. It was ugly.
But necessary to pop their swelled heads and get them back onto the ground to keep on walking.
It wouldn't have been so bad if had resulted in a listenable record.
It sounded terrible but it was a perfect representation of exactly where the band was at that time.
I feel like people have filters for a reason. I mean I can shit out of my ass but nobody wants (or should) see that. I feel like the filming of that period was exploitative watching it. Not what I thought I was in for. And seeing a bunch of entitled, rich, whiny rock stars talk endlessly about their feelings and psych babble bullshit was the beginning of the end of the Metallica I always loved. Newstead was the only one that talked any sense out of all of them the little bit he was on there.
I don’t think this was a good thing for Hetfield. No one lost respect for Lars at the time. No one lost respect for Kirk or Jason or Rob. But it pulled back the curtain and i think James finally lost the fear of failure that drove him forward. Metallica is music that embraces negativity and fights it. If you want a blueprint for successful metal and rock, that’s it. A musical middle finger to reality. And Some Kind Of Monster shows Metallica as a very wealthy company with none of the hate and aggression anymore. Remember the Black documentary. Rage and immature gruff. They were 26-28. They should have known better but they weren’t. And Monster was them trying to be grownups and that is not what their music was about… and the album was so badly produced that the goodwill from their speed metal days was finally spent.
The older fans know that they started playing the old stuff much more after 2005 with the anniversary tours. Metallica rejected what Monster represented for them. I love Whiplash… and I don’t think that James did at the time.
I hated it soooooo much
It's awesome to hear Hetfield say, "You're going through hell," in a negative light. I just wish kirk would listen to those words and realize the devils end game is to make kirk join him there, and it's not a pretty place.
What are you talking about? Do you even know what you're talking about? I'm guessing not
Kirk isn't a big baby. He can handle his stuff. He's 60 and lived more than most people on Earth. You are in no position to second guess his choices.
Bret Hart had a film crew present for the Montreal Screwjob by coincidence. So, No! You Aren't the first! You are one of the few, rather!
But the Music is still boring sonce Justice 😀🤷🏻♂️
If i was mustaine i wulda quit soon as i heard this ego driven narsassist going off... no wonder he decked him.
He looks drunk or something
i like metallica but that was the crapiest documentary ever made....followed by their worst album
I myself am content with the music ! I don’t need to dwell on every aspect of the band members lives I personally don’t care how they feel you out a record if I like it I go see the band and buy the music end of story
This is what a thief of music looks like.
What? Lmao. Theif of music? He's written more amazing music than you'll ever even be able to imagine. Get outta here
Okay crazy person. Someone is stealing your shopping cart full of rodent carcasses.
Well said bro,
I dropped out after the 5th, you know.
Antonio GU JASON NEWSTED RUclips
You know it must be really hard to be a millionaire and millions of fans a loving family.damvwhat a terrible life
The next big hurdle for this LAer is being man enough to admit he’s gay!
No one else can admit that he puts on an act but hey we appreciate you coming out of the closet!
