You are most likely dealing with a type of blossom blight. I would use an organic copper spray on the plants and mulch. Obviously prune out the affected branches. If you didn't remove the plants you can cut them back to the roots and you should get new shoots.
Sorry to hear about the removal of your Cherry bushes. Sounds like Brown Rot. The sour Cherry tree I put in this year looks sad. The rain did help. Your gardens look amazing! Enjoy your holiday garden friend!
Thank you, Lori. I'm not so sad about losing these - just worried because I don't want it to spread to other things. Fingers crossed I'm able to manage it moving forward. God bless you and yours this Memorial day!
It is sad, but I cut one down today and bagged it up. It's wild to see the big empty spot when you clear them away! I'm going to apply compost and top with fresh wood chips and let it go a full year. Maybe if the coppiced shrubs regrow, we can beat this.
I am having BIG trouble with aminopyralid /2-4D contaminated compost and drift from my neighbor spraying Grazon. My Nanking cherries are yellow and dying. Tomatos, peppers, beans, squash all have twisted, deformed leaves. So sad!
Indeed. Lots of plants in my yard COULD be used to create an edible hedge. Nanking cherries are a great one... aronia berries, high bush cranberry viburnum, beach plum, currants, highbush blueberries... I like the natural shapes of these shrubs, but they could be trained into a hedge if you get the spacing right.
Oh no! Hope the rest of the guys and gals at the garden feel as great as they look :) much love as always!

I did cut them down to the roots and covered the surrounding area with fresh compost... they are coming back now. We will see if they bloom this year.

Oh no, I remember seeing those beauties when I came to your house to pick up the nanking transplants from your other home. So sad

Oh! Maybe it's drift!! I didn't even think of that but it's totally possible since these are right on the edge of the property.
that appears to be a food hedge...
