This is my takeaway from todays stage
*Not surprised to see Roglic on this kind of form. I think he just needs to keep the rubber to the ground and this could be his Vuelta. For the record I'm not a fan of Roglic and I knew he had no chance at TDF but he really looks like the one to beat at the Vuelta
*It appeared that Sepp went down or at least unclipped when they came around that tight bend to the climb but I never expected Sepp to do well this Vuelta. I don't believe he's on the form he needs to be on to be a real contender. I don't expect a podium from him
*Enric Mas and Mikel Landa are doing quite well and I will be keeping an eye on both of them. They seem like they can be a threat to Roglic
*No surprise to see Ben O'Connor lose time. By stage 15 he will lose his lead. Even he doesn't expect to keep the leaders jersey
*This is a real race!! We have many riders that can be a threat for the win. This will be a great Vuelta

Felix Gall should have rode with BO'C in that last 750m, he may not have been able to help him draft wise, but could have offered psychological motivation (much like Martinez did for Bernal in the Giro a few yr ago). I know he was trying to protect his GC position at the same time, but in a Vuelta that 'could' be decided on seconds, it hay have made the difference that allowed him to form a bridge to allow O'Conner to latch onto that 29 sec gap group, (Vollering is a prime example of this!). RED at the end is better than if they end up with a 3rd and 5th. Also this was IDEAL territory for Roglic, but was probably the worst type of climb for BO'C, so today's Queen stage will be more telling.

Thanks Pat, Roglic can thank IPT for his win, they chased all day (some say as a punishment from their DS for not getting in the break) and that allowed Bora to sit back until near the end when the breakaway was just over a minute away.
It was entirely opportunistic as Primoz himself said at the post race interview and I believe him given that tomorrow is the Queen Stage and Bora likely wanted today to be relatively easy so would have let a breakaway win as long as there was no GC threat in the breakaway.

CAN'T WAIT FOR TOMORROWS STAGE 9!! Not extremely long climbs but Three Cat 1 climbs so we will see who is up for the task but it's still not a mountain top finish and it's not yet above 2000m so still not really a decisive stage but definitely a stage to watch and to see who is really ready for battle
