Great review! Love Hoplomacchus and TMB, another game by CTG with a deduction twist is Triplock. I'd also recommend "Mechs vs. Minions" (from the LOL creators, reasonable price) for MOBA, "Atlas - Duel for Divinity" for creaturecrafting and geomancing, "Mage Knight" for hexbased exploration and my alltime fav. "Heroscape" for Tabletop skirmish (pricey now).;o)
I’ve been having a blast with this one. Agree that 4 player (only done 2vs2) takes way too long, but have had several 1vs1 games and they are speeding up.
Thank you for your review. You're awesome. A Civ game with chips. I can so see that. It would be awesome. Maybe Chip Theory will make that idea a reality. :-)
Did you play the co-op scenarios at all? Maybe missed that part, but most interesting part to me was the idea of playing this 2p co-op. Any thoughts would be appreciated, you rule!
The comparison to mobas is interesting. As someone who has been primarily a video gamer... only just in the last 2 months or so jumping into board games... I've found that some concepts or themes that really just dont do anything for me in video games, end up working very well in board game form. Zombicide for instance... in video games, the whole overhead (or first person) "horde fighting", or squad-based strategy, just.... bleh. But I tried Zombicide, and absolutely love it... I'll likely be buying every bit of content. Same with something like Mage Knight. I really, REALLY dont like things like open-world RPGs, or, well, RPGs in general in video games, but Mage Knight I found to be absolutely spectacular (aside from setup, setting that game up is... not fun). After seeing this review, I'm thinking I'll have the same experience with this game. I've tried actual mobas (DOTA mostly) and tended to either get bored, or get annoyed... the horribly toxic playerbase didnt help. But everything you've shown here with Cloudspire just looks like something I'm gonna love. Anyway, just a fantastic review overall. I've had a hard time really finding much content related to this game, but this showed me everything I need to know to make an informed decision. Very well done, sir.
I passed on this. Not because chip theory hasn't proven themselves with their amazing Too Many Bones*, but just Too Many Games I was backing at the time. This was more affordable to me than the most recent TMB. *Sadly had to pass also Too Many Bones: I wanted Base Game, Undertow, Gasket, Dart, Ghille + Slice&dice (wasn't interested in the internship program stuff), but a someone in my gaming group went all-in so I'll get a chance to play it again, as I barly scratched the surface of the base game and loved it. I guess we own them all ;) ok let me watch this video and see what I missed!
Oooooh, a Civ game with chips and this kind of map would be awesome! I do love LoL and was wondering whether to get this, but I don't know how well it translates into a board game, and man, it costs a ton...
3 and 4 player does not work well. The economy gets broken. In a 2 player game you will eventually kill all the guys from the other player (unless you loose that round) and will get the source for that. In a 3/4 player game one or 2 of the players can collect all the source from a round causing the other players to be starved for it. This snowballs fast.
Ya, I have tried 3 times for 2v2 (although we only completed one game, the others we quit early). Each time one player on each team got the bulk of the kills and the other players had trouble collecting source. It became not fun for them quick. The 3rd time we tried the players planned how to split kills to evenly distribute source, but it felt like we were making bad tactical choices just to balance the economy.
Great review! You've made me rethink my interest in Cloudspire. Happy to see you doing reviews again.
Anxiously awaiting my all in pledge
I share 100% your feelings about this game which has become my favorite one. Very good review.

I really hope they make a civ game, a city building game or an adventure/exploration game
I've played this 3 players a handful of times and its a lot of fun. Completely different strategies as people dont always target you.
Glad to hear it. I’ll have to give it a shot.

Just two player head-to-head and the solo scenarios.
Love this game. It's not as good at 3-player as others have said but 1v1 and 2v2 is really really good. CTG did a great job.
How about the replayability?
From about 34:00 to the end.
Love your intro vid
Thanks. Me too! I can't take credit for it. A viewer created it for me years ago. I love it :)

How’s Too Many Bones been going for you? Have any favorite characters?

Even a team game as well?

@@seanmcdonald737 Gotcha. Still want to try it once :)
