Was waiting for this review! Been looking at the super tucano or the freewing 80mm A10 as an headtracking fpv platform. I was dead set on the A10 but the tucano is looking better everytime I watch videos on it
Looking forward for the mig 29 video, I've had the model with thrust vector for a few years and it's been a great fun jet. Hope you keep creating for the community. Happy holidays
Very cool, thank you. Maybe in future reviews, you could show how a plane behaves with gyro on and off? For comparison purposes. You know, some of us 40+ model pilots in the eastern EU fly without gyros (we consider them as a work of devil and are afraid of them).
Wow, what a beautiful plane. I just got my TT SWS, fan and 5065-450 motor and will be building her over the holiday, so looking forward to your follow-up.
Hobby king is back up running strong. Stick with the durafly and avios models they are all fantastic. You would love the avios albatross Land and sea. Twin prop. Hope you get one one day.
Grrrr ugh another one! That's the sound my wallet is making right now, thanks for the honest and complete review. Adding this one to my hanger. Such a BA looking plane
Thanks for the video. I really want to fly this one. Unfortunately that wiil have to wait. I will be away from any place I can fly for the next 5 months. When I get back I will send you some shots of what fit and finish issues I had. I may just order a replacement vertical stabilizer. The mold halves were not aligned and it has a significant step on the front where it meets the empennage. That occasionally happens from other manufacturers as well. I received 1 from the second shipment. I do not know if it has the nose modification done to it. I will stiffen up the elevator. I had already thought that might be an issue. I do like what I have seen so far. To not have to be as concerned flying of grass will be a relief. A change from the FMS PC21.
@@TwoBrosRCI’m excited for that as well. From some teasers I’ve seen people running them on a gas setup. Is it safe to say that you’re going to be running an electric power plant when you get your hands on one?
Good video and good info, thanks. I am still in the prcess of assembling and painting mine (doing the heritage schemed plane at the USAF Test Pilot School) and over all I am impressed with the fit and finish and overall quality. I have a few Avios planes and I have been happy with them. About my only gripe is at this price point, I would like to see nose gear doors. I ran into the same issue with my Avios Twin King, but I solved that by fitting a set of Freewing T-33 nose gear doors to it. I'm still looking for an easy nose gear door option for the Super Tucano.
What a great looking and flying plane! Thanks for another detailed, objective review. How are you liking the new flying field? Looks like a nice place to fly.
@@TwoBrosRC Appreciate it! My worry was transportation, Shouldn't be a problem if Wing comes out easy. Hoping my buddy lets me take it out of hanger for a maiden!!
While I don't buy warbirds to do crankshafts, I suppose it's good to know the flight characteristics of a model .Because many only look good. and are a handful to fly. I was super excited to catch this only 6 hrs old, and you say " grab one with my link. Yeah still on. Backorder :(
Hey Jon, thanks for the amazing review, as usual they are fair and unbiased. Question, can you explain what do you mean when you say it can't be flown on a neutral CG? Is it that it won't rotate or fly poorly etc? If so what CG would you recommend? Thanks
It's a nose heavy airplane by design. Unless you get the battery tray modded so you can move the pack to the center of the wings, it's going to fly nose heavy. Not in the sense that it flies poorly - just aerodynamically. It's always going to be positively stable. We did mention "it takes off and lands without struggling" in the agility section. 😉 The recommended CG would be as far aft as you can get it on the recommended pack. Don't be afraid to push the battery all the way to the rear.
Very much appreciate your response Jon. 👍🏻 it does clear things up for me, and thanks for the reminder in the "Agility Section" not sure how I missed that one. 😅 Cheers
Love watching you do all the maneuvers I don’t have the balls or skills for! Glad you put up the AS3x numbers - I’m interested to see how my settings stack up. Did you move any of the ball links for more throws, or turn up the range on the servos? I have an early release from the first or second shipment - I’d be interested to see a close-up of the front retract reinforcing to see if mine has or needs it.
Pretty sure the linkages were left stock with 150 travel. You can look at your front retract and see if there's a wooden block above it. If there is, then you're good to go.
Definitely isn't a beginner plane. Stick to less expensive aircraft that are less technically complex until you've built up enough stick time and experience that more expensive forays into model aviation will be successful.
Every Hobbyking plane I've bought in the past is cheap and feels cheap. The last one being the Steadfast was horrible cheap and nasty. It honestly put me off future purchases from them. Has this got any whiffs of cheapness? Thats whats putting me me off their new 105mm Sports Hawk.
No offence meant John but you have started to sound like other RUclips influencers that just thrust the product in our face and overlook all the negatives. Your assessment around fit and finish is way off. You never spoke about the ugly fuse joint, plastic wheels, poor foam quality, old style plastic control horns and clevises, canopy fitment and wing joint alignment issues, not to mention the thrust angle issue, extra motor wire length with no advantage. If it was fms or Freewing you wouldn’t stop complaining about the issues.
We don't account for "old style hinges" in our review system. That's a personal complaint you're making, not a reason why we'd ding this plane. How do you even quantify that? "Uses old style hinges - fail" - who defines what's new versus old in a hinge system? All we care about is if it's plastic hinged, and it is. What "ugly fuse joint" are you talking about? Ours looked fine. No idea why you think the foam quality is poor, it is objectively not. The canopy fit well on our airframe. There were zero wing joint alignment issues. No idea what you're talking about with regard to the thrust angle. We don't have any metrics for "motor wire length" and have no plans to add one, either. If FMS or FW made this plane, it would still get the same score it did here. Stop grasping at straws lol - no offense taken, but what you wrote comes off like you have a bone to pick with HobbyKing instead of us.
Your comment wasn't deleted. But if you keep acting like this, you're going to be hidden from the channel. We're not interested in petulant negativity.
I agree Jon, one of the best releases of 2024. Love mine!

The Tucano is a bit more affordable, but suffers from the distinct disadvantage of not being a Warthog. ;/
Same here . The a10 looks awesome fpv ! But this is stunning and the new banana hobby j20 looks fun too. So many options and different fpv experiences
Twenty times on two separate days is true dedication. Thanks Jon.
Just getting that content for you guys lol
Took me 10 months to get one but watched the site like a hawk and they came in stock in US. Came last week. Thanks for the video!
That's awesome! Glad it finally got to you.
Merry Christmas 🎄

Thanks so much dude!
Best plane of 2024 hands down
Awesome video, thanks 👍
A warbird with retracts that performs crankshafts? That's pretty spectacular.
Pretty insane, isn't it?
Didn’t see any crankshafts
@@yeggs2156 they had some side slip but you get the idea.
Maiden yesterday. Flew 4 batteries, SMC HV5900. Average of 8 minutes. One of the best planes I have ever flown. She is an amazing beautiful bird.

We're big proponents of gyros here on this channel so that would be quite a departure for us, but it's something to consider. Thanks!
That is very good idea. 👍
Jello... Nice video

You convinced me to buy the OMP Bighorn and Freewing 70mm F-16, looks like the Super Tucano is high on my 2025 list 😬😬😬
Bighorn is a such a great little plane. Can't wait to see the 100" version coming in the near future.

Hey Jon great review as usual! Hey I'd like to see you do a review on Hobbyking's newest Yak11 Steadfas t Single Seat airplane if possible.
What a great looking and flying plane! Thanks for another detailed, objective review. How are you liking the new flying field? Looks like a nice place to fly.
It's pretty awesome so far.
We need a pictures of how you transported the Tucano, Did you transport it with wing off?
Yep. Also put a foam block under the plane so it held the ventral antenna above the trunk floor.

No real favorites here, they're all good at different things!
