    Thank you for posting this.
    A few tips for those who are not yet very familiar with Blender:
    - when you try to add a Color Ramp, do not look for it in Color group, but in Converter group,
    - if you try to add a Color Ramp by typing the name, do not type Color Ramp, but ColorRamp,
    - you can add Color Ramp by pressing _Shift A_ then _N_ then _O_
    Cheers.

    The first colorramp does nothing except output a single unvarying color depending on where the Factor slider is manually positioned. The colorramp Factor must be driven by a texture (eg. a Noise texture) in order to access the range of colors defined in the ramp. A Noise texture outputs 0 to 1 values, however it tends to be most prominent in the range of about 0.4 to 0.6. So you should have your base skin tone colors in this central range and keep the unusual colors (greens etc) at the ends of the ramp.

    Pretty effective shader. I've done a few tutorials making procedural skin shaders and this is giving me some of the best result-to-setup outcomes I've had yet. Taking your setup, but driving the albedo/surface color ramp with a noise texture so that it produces almost imperceptible variation, is giving me something that both reads as a single color without reading like a fake, flat single color lol. Fantastic. I used a cloud noise image with some bigger, chunkyish shapes to drive the third bump map texture, using it for skin smoothness/bumpiness. This could be a great base to start bullding details on. Thanks for the video!

    Thank you! An acceptable result in so few steps. But I have to support a couple of previous comments - the first color ramp node makes no sense as it outputs a single color. Probably it meant to be preceded with some another texture to give variations.

    What is the purpose of the first color ramp you create? You say something about "playing with" the color, but all it does is map that color gradient onto an input. Since you *have* no input, the output will always be whatever color you would have gotten with a 50% grey input. Tweaking it with the RGB curve only changes the brightness of the color. You might as well Mix color 3 with color 4 using a Mix node and just take whatever the result is an modulate it with a Brightness/Contrast. You'd be doing the same thing, faster. Better yet... why not just use an RGB input?

    • @DenzelTheGriffin
      @DenzelTheGriffin  2 года назад +3

      You can simply apply the material to a plane or a cube and save it as a blend file. Say skin_base.blend then you can go there and copy it by selecting the plane with the material assigned and hitting Ctrl +C then open your new project with the model you want to apply it to and paste the plane. Then the material will be in your scene and you can select it as the material for your new character. Hope that makes sense 😅
