I've been doing this in my electronic kiln at 1300 degrees... gives a little more time to "attach" the horsehair * I've done 12 now with only one cracked... not a bad ratio... you do beautiful work!
The pot was already bisqued once to cone 04 (around 1940). The second time I fired it it didn’t reach 1000 degrees. The reason is because it was cold outside (I was doing this in my garage) and if it got any hotter the pot would crack since I used bmix and not raku clay. That would change depending on the kiln( if you are using a raku kiln or not), clay type, and temp in your studio.
I use industrial gloves that are also used for welding. You can see them in the video. I don't know what brand they are. I also don't know the brand of the tongs. I got it at our local pottery store. They are the same ones you would use for raku. Sorry I can't be more helpful than that.

That looks super fun 👍🏻
Are you doing this the end of a bisque fire as it’s cooling down or do you do it at the end of a glaze fire with clear glaze on the vessels?

Amazing! How quickly are you reaching that temp?
I haven’t done it in two years and don’t remember how long it took. Sorry!
Can you share how you lift the kiln lid when it's that hot, and also what type of tongs you are using? Thanks.

What exact temp do you recommend pulling it out in Fahrenheit? Hoping to try this but don’t want my piece to be undone when I pull it!

Did you measure your kiln temp in Celsius or Fahrenheit? I was assuming Fahrenheit but wanted to ask.
You are correct…Fahrenheit.
