ESPN reporter John Keim believes that CB Emmanuel Forbes won’t be starting to begin the next season: “No. He [Forbes] does not immediately start. I’m not surprised about Quan at safety. In Chris Simms evaluation of him he said most of the NFL guys he spoke to were evaluating him as a safety. Also Simms had him as his No. 1 safety in the draft. You should go back and check it out.

Witherspoon is a small slot corner and they had corners for the outside. Quan is essentially a corner who served Illinois better as a safety his Senior year.
I'm loving the fact that they are experimenting now, it doesn't hurt in May for a player to understand the other position routes, maybe what happened last year with the near-collision of 2 WRs in the endzone doesn't happen because someone was mixed up. Plus how do you know how well a player plays a position, until you try them at that position? I'm not comfortable with Dotson as a Y, he doesn't have the hands, Luke does, and Luke is bigger. Dotson has a better chance of being open in the slot. Same with the secondary, competition is wide open. Fuller is gone, St-Juste isn't all that in my mind; I think he is the guy being picked on in the secondary, unless Forbes is out there somewhere. I think the hole there is worse than anything on the oline, the difference we have more options there. Do they use a S as a CB? If Sainristill is the slot corner, Quan is moved to Safety, and Chinn is the other Safety, we are flush at Safety with Butler and Forrest as backups but who are the starting corners; St-Juste and Forbes? So please, experiment.

Like you’ve said, no one has earned a spot here with the new regime and Forbes will be more than fine earning his keep here this offseason. The vets are starting, and the young’s are learning. Besides Quan but he’s technically the vet of the safeties other than DFoe. There sparking a fire under Forbes and he finna eat this year under a new staff and actual support around him

Preseason should tell the tells if who can play what and what can play what position better. Thanks to preseasons games.
Of topic but this is why I think preseason is important when really building your team before the season to see what your new and young players got.
JerZhan Newton is a Florida boy who played football for Illinois. Essentially, Illinois is filled with what would be Florida Gator football players. The Gators program is over with. They are essentially Duke of Florida. Academic standards are extremely high where it's very difficult for players to get accepted. When Jayden Daniels boasts about running by defensive backs who run 4.7 40s is fugazi. Gators are 70th ranked defense.
Lovie Smith was coaching Quan (I worked with his uncle for 5 years/until recently) and Newton.
Lovie has a great D mind, a really good teacher and man, so he could get those Florida players..

Jahan may be a slot WR BUTTTT he played all 3 positions (with great results) in college. So, they have to tweak what they want from Jahan this year. Plus he has bulked up quite a bit this year. We shall see.

Please everyone remember, Daddy Money Bags is gone! These mini camps and OTAs are just fitness training. Trials and errors with the men on our team. We have to play nice with the rules of the NFL and have all eyes on the happenings with us. What I have learned from back in the early 80's when Coach Gibbs took over, he had an eminence front for the media during training camp.
If you look at the makeup of the defensive versatility and the new KOR rule, it makes sense why we have so many hybrid guys

Damn Rico, I know you were talking starter question marks but I can't believe that you didn't even mention Revo and him at a minimum taking up a roster spot at safety because with his role as a key special teams guy it isn't the fact that he is a previous coaching staff guy and this group is looking at him that way because he was a FA and they signed him back this off-season so man it is crazy at the safety spot, so much talent and so few roster spots without just knowing in the back of your mind if we try we are most likely losing this guy because he won't make it to the practice squad before someone scoops him up. But hey this is a great position to be in I would rather be here than having to decide from starting caliber players fighting not to be put down on the depth chart coming off the bench than potentially praying that a guy could be a starter and crossing your fingers hoping a guy is good enough to be out there. Also I love that they are experimenting with players that was something the previous coaches seemed to refuse to do and I am loving it, this is the time of the year to do just that.

Everyone saying "could have done more to address (X) in the off-season". We have had the most roster turnover in a single nfl off season this year than has happened since b4 Hitler was running germany. Sounds like weve done as much addressing as humanly possible.

They said there is going to be competition and their gonna try guys in different spots. It’s still early, I wouldn’t look to much into guys playing certain spots, but the Forbes news is concerning.
That was part of the problem with Quan last training camp - they had him learning three DB positions!
@@escaped1534 he’s still really young, this coaching staff is all about dbs. They want to find out what he can do because he was very versatile in college. I’d say if he’s not playing well consistently by the end of this season then I’d start to be concerned.

In part time play, he had 3 int's, two that ended the game, while Forbes only had 2, and Forrest had ZERO!
He's a great open field tackler, quick short-distance, smart, and has a nose for the all.
BTW, he and the other DB's hated their DB coach, and felt he often had them in wrong coverages...

Having Luke as the X forces the opponents defense to adjust their secondary and that’s easier said then done.
Terry McLaurin, similar to a Taylor Heineke, is a baller. Kudos to both of them, and they are both great teammates. There are some questions about their ceiling and ability for both. Terry is not a WR1, and Taylor isn't a QB1. Those are facts. I don't like Luke's lack of vertical. It's mid range at best for a WR1. He still is an upgrade to Terry. His other physical traits are elite. Jerry Rice had the same vertical, so there is hope. My comp for Luke is Jerry Rice. Same size and physical traits. Of course, the heart of a lion is the obvious X factor. Separates the good from the greats. BTW, Jerry is the GOAT 🐐

The only reason I think St Juste had a bad season last year was because of the coaching. They also failed Forbes last year and Sam Howell last year. The play calling was terrible so that failed our receivers. I think it's a lot of the coaching last year

As a native Floridian growing up playing football, I can tell you the SEC is not the conference of the old days. Even in the day, none of my high school teammates went to Florida schools. We were recruited all over the country. Quan and that elite secondary at Illinois are all Florida boys. Players in Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana can't hold our jock straps. Texas always had superior coaches and programs. Quan is a better outside corner than Forbes. This SEC hype has to stop. It's the 5th ranked conference. Ya'll been missing what's really been going on.
Most of the players had a bad 2023 season due to poor coaching. Heck, Jonathan Allen and Payne didn't have a good 2023 season.
