  • How are the founders behind Eastside Golf planting the seed for the future of golf? Olajuwon Ajanaku and Earl Cooper are putting clubs in hands and showing first-timers the ropes in-person via clinics, as we capture on this Eastside Stories, presented by BMW.
Olajuwon and Earl's mission in getting as many people into golf as possible, and learning the language of golf is a crucial first step for these first-timers. In return, the guys hope to set a foundation for a life-long love of the game that's been so fulfilling for them.
Highlighting golf's fun, human, and humorous side. Golf is no longer just the stuffy world of middle-aged country club members. Skratch brings you golf content for a new generation.
From getting the most exotic tee times on Earth (see: Adventures in Golf) to digging into the game's interesting personalities (see: Skratching the Surface, Finding the Fairway), Skratch showcases a side of golf many would never get to see.

If everyone understood golf, this world would be a better place. Patience, meeting people, conversations, etc. If you know well you know

This is another real example of growing the game instead of starting up a new league and paying millionaires more millions.

Agreed but golf is more than any pro golf tour.

Not everyone’s intention is to grow the game. It’s a business for many. It’s golf. There’s enough room for the newcomers, and the millionaires.

Love your videos and what you guys are doing for golf. Where can I get a hat so I can spread the good word for you? May you hit nothing but fairways and greens.

Two of the major issues keeping people out of golf are money and time. Money: Anyone who plays knows that golf is not cheap! Equipment is expensive. You have to pay to practice at the range and pay to play the course. Time: Playing golf is not like riding a bike. You have to practice and work at this game constantly. That takes time. Playing an 18-hole round is six hours from leaving home to returning home.
I'm 60, and started playing golf when I was 10 years old. I've met SO many other golfers who did the same thing I did: You start playing when you're young, when you hit your mid to late 20s, golf becomes too expensive and time-consuming. When you hit your 40s, you pick it up again.
Throughout the world, more kids play basketball and soccer than golf. Reason: Economics. Get a ball, a flat surface, two rocks to mark one goal and an old bucket and a stick to mark the other goal....you've got a game. Get a ball, a flat surface, nail a bushel or an old crate to a pole, and you've got a game. If you want to "bridge the gap" for golf, either golf has to be come less expensive (good luck with that) or you're going to have to somehow close the economic gap (not sure how).
