Absolutely brilliant! - I last sailed the Walton Channel in 1973 in the dark in a Hunter 19. Now sail a Phantom in Scotland. I doubt i could handle that much wind!
It really looks like Izzy is coming around to the sailing bit. It’s quite clear she tenses up from time to time but she seems to be handling it excellently. Way to go. I’ve tried to get my kids interested in sailing but haven’t been as fortunate. So enjoy being able to go sailing with your family.
She is hopefully. Nice to hear from you and we are proof that you should never give up hope, just dont push them, if they want to they will come to you.
There appears to be two loose groups of people; those that are completely comfortable with all the motions a small sailboat makes and in the second group; those that are terrified. I remember one of my daughters hugging the binnacle with a death grip and I, not having a clue as to what is bothering her. She has just signed up for a sailing coarse and as she is now forty, I am pleased and proud that she must have gotten some pleasure from her childhood sailing, enough for her to have another go at it.
I hate getting wet, so I would personally not get on a boat that isn't ballasted (keel or otherwise) to effectively never be able to capsize. Keelboats all the way for me. I learned to sail in a dinghy as a child, but I didn't mind getting wet then.
That was great! I’ve done a little scow racing in the Midwest (US) and some sailboard racing, love the speed. I suppose having extra crew helped with the upwind legs, given the good wind.
Have you considered a tiller cam? I get to see all my mistakes and my crew with it, and the wide angle prevents a bouncing image. I learn a lot from the GPS data and watching myself work.
Hi Ian. Thanks for the feedback. We don't like tiller cams because they move. We do normally have cameras hanging out the front and back but as this was such a tight and congested race course they would have been a liability (check out some of our other wayfarer films. The 360 is a great compromise when they work :-)
Izzie is doing really well. I hadn't even noticed any nervousness. I think it is only a matter of time before she will take over as Captain!
Cool. well sailed.
Thankyou

Ian has had a Phantom in the past, great boats, but as you say it would have been a handful in this breeze.
@@SailingwiththeFoxwellFamily I also have a Weta Trimaran which would have gone like a rocket on those long reaches!
We fancy getting a Weta, I think it would be great for exploring the Medway

Lots of info coming from Izzy to the Skipper 😄
She was getting into it, starting to realise how she could help

Thats great news Eric. Good to hear from you and good to know that we may not be scaring Elizabeth for life :-)
@@mytube001 I see Hunter boats do a ballasted centreboard for their cruiser version.
I THINK elizabeth will be giving dad a few lessons soon !!!
One day

Yup the extra weight must have helped
Yep, really quick upwind even with a capsize buoy on the mast! Impressed.
Hi James. Yup they dont slow you up as much as people think
