As someone from the flat lands of Nebraska that DREAMS of soaring and never has, this video is almost too painfully beautiful to watch. Congrats on your life. :)
One of the best videos about Soaring, really well done, great flying, filming, music, editing. And nature of Norway is also amazing. Makes me want to make at least one flight in my life there :)
Thanks, and the same to you. I've been enjoying your videos for a long time! And yes, there will be more soaring videos coming soon. Was in the French Alps flying last week and got some excellent shots. And going back to Western Norway to fly next week, hopefully getting some more nice video from there.
In this video I'm flying a Schempp-Hirth Discus glider, in other videos I'm flying other gliders. It's not that expensive to fly gliders. In my club it costs about 50 euro per flight (depending on weather and skill a flight lasts anything from 10 minute to 10 hours - avergage for me by now is about 2 hours), but the biggest part of that cost is being towed up. If you can find a club which uses winch launch to get airborne, than that will be quite a bit cheaper.
While there aren't any courses specific to fjord soaring, the best place to go would be to contact Os Aeroklubb. They have the most experience with cross country flying in the fjord terrain, and have many instructors. This video was made at one of their soaring camps at Bømoen (Voss), although their regular base is close to Bergen, about 80 km west of where this video was made.
You can soar in Nebraska, though. Even from New Zealand (another nice little country with fjords and gliders), I joined the Soaring Society of America, largely for access to its very useful archive of gliding magazines, so I know it's widespread in the US.
Hei! Flott video. Ser ut som Voss/ Hardangerfjorden. Hvilket kamera bruker du? Redigeringsprogram?
Fara cuvinte...
Not at all. In modern gliders with well sealed cockpits there is little noice, unless you're going very fast (or of course if flying a glider with an engine). And certainly no need for any headset.

This is beautiful. It makes me me miss gliding even more than I already did!

Great music for this type of gliding videos. Also ladscape is awesome. Bravo!
I highly recommend trying it! At least get an introductory flight to experience it, and see if it's something you'll enjoy :)

Great Shots!Really nice movie!
ABSOLUTLY BEAUTIFUL!
What kind of aircraft is used? and is it expensive to do this sport? (plane cost, dragplane etc.?)
Is the glider a Discus CS or similar?
Helt fantastiskt landskap! Blir riktigt sugen på norsk termik...
Fantastic. I'm just flying your Southern Norway 3 in Condor. Sandane ret 301 Km. Also very nice job. Thanks Martin

Just a small question, where to go in Norway to get training in this kind of fjord soaring?
