    Love this video!! I am currently in the process of narrowing down what I like. I've been doing some personal work on myself and it has helped me figure out what my true perfume style is. Sometimes I would not wear things because I didn't want to stand out too much or external reasons like that. But getting more confident in myself has made me stop caring about being so safe. Don't get me wrong, I don't wear loud scents or anything but I feel I was wearing safe things sometimes because of things like how others would take my different types of scents. It has made a big difference and now is helping me finally get rid of scents I was settling on because I was lacking the confidence to wear what I love. Thank you for this! It's great to see people on the same journey of self discovery. And some would say oh it's not that serious but I think a lot of times those are the people walking around being unhappy because oh all this talk about confidence is stupid, yet they are unhappy because they don't want to tap into something so "Stupid", so they can carry on. But love love this, thank you♥

    Instead of full-size blind buys or buying full-size perfumes that I’ve only smelled once, I’ve been buying travel sizes to know if I am really in love with it. My perfumes are taking up a lot of space, so switching to travel size is the best move for me. They’re much easier to store.

      This!!! I do this too!! It gives me an idea if I actually want a full sized bottle or if I find I’m not a fan after wearing it a couple of times. Travel sizes and samples are the way to go, and I’ve honestly saved more money this way instead of impulsively buying something g that might smell pretty on someone else.

    • @lucibellasandverse
      @lucibellasandverse 2 года назад

      @@meganbessinger2303 Exactly! I was so glad that I bought the travel size of Kilian “Love Don’t Be Shy” first. I’m finding out that strong orange blossom notes sticks out on my skin and comes across as a chemical smell. There are too many scents that smell good in the air or on paper, but not on me. Or it’s a scent that vanishes quick. I would hate to pay a lot of money on a scent that disappears after 30 minutes. It’s just nice to get a thorough feel of it before I decide if it’s really worth it.

      I figured buying decants first before the bottle. And then when I really want it I also buy the travel size. Most perfume bottles takes too much space in the bag because of the packaging. So I'd rather have the size I can carry around easily

I have a "fragrance journal" and list the fragrance notes to help me remember which ones I loved wearing vs those I disliked. I'm trying to develop my nose for the individual fragrance notes to help me stop buying similar fragrances and to identify those that I should avoid.

    My real independent fragrance journey started from “broke” freshman year to now “stable adult” late 20s, and now I can say that I’m good with my staples. I was about to hit 50 fragrances this year and I dead had to pause like what am I doing. That’s not a lot for some, but for me it just looked too busy and I felt anxious..like some were looking at me, begging, to not let them go to waste 😭. Forcing me to use them just to finish them and ion like that pressure lmao. I pick what I’m going to wear heavily on my mood and what’s going on, my lifestyle. So I brought it down to 26, some I used that were already low and some I sold that I knew I wasn’t going to to use anymore, and I’m happy to say I’m always in the mood for all the fragrances I have now. They’re not too redundant and they’re still relevant to me at this point in my life, checking all my personal categories/moods/seasons. Also I feel like they will continue to be relevant moving forward because they were intentionally chosen after years of sampling, increasing my objective “fragrance knowledge”, immersing myself in testing to really figure out what I love, what works best with my chemistry and what is received well by my nose. I would love to have an even smaller amount in my collection but I know that’ll take some years. I’m in no rush and I want to enjoy my fragrances at my pace. I also have a system to control the number moving forward so I can add a fragrance here and there to adjust to new tastes and life changes.

But what I am doing is getting a perfume tray and place 7 different ones on there so they all get some love, I own a lot of niche fragrances and now I want designer and some inexpensive fragrances, but in order for me to do that I need to use what I have. No more blind buying, I have decants galore I’ll be wearing those as well, I have to much and don’t want them to go bad so Thanks for confirmation of what I’ve been feeling!

    Thank you for this video! One way I try to keep my collection at a “reasonable” size is always trying a sample or a decant, so almost no blind buys.
    Now what really prevented me from using my favorite fragrances is fear of running out or fear of reformulation. I saved one fragrance for many years (ok so it’s more than 20 years😬) because it was so special to me, and I wanted to use it for special occasions. I recently realized that special occasions don’t happen as often as we would like, or happen when you are not in the mood for that particular fragrance, and that it is ok if eventually a fragrance runs out/is reformulated. Plus, I had a few go bad and I didn’t want the ones I’m saving to go bad too. Now I try to rotate my fragrances to catch the first sign of turing, and I try to be ok with the fact that I finished a bottle that I can’t replace. We live only once, and no one can guarantee the future so why not use my fragrances now, wisely of course, but still use them and enjoy them.

    Anyway I only clear out fragrances that make me gag. I am ok with having a lot. I just got this Dua Brandy Vanilla and wow it’s a gagger for me😢. It does not smell like I would have imagined. Their Alexandra Short vanilla is pretty bomb though. So I will attempt to clear out the Brandy one.
    Rhonda what do you think of Bond Chinatown? Do you have that one? It’s interesting- it’s flowers plus Chinese 5 -spice I think. I never wear it but I don’t want to sell it either.. just wondering if you’d tried it:-)

    Have you made a fragrance wardrobe video? And what I mean by that is a list of the occasions that you would consider it necessary to have different perfumes for, i.e. for work, for casual, for formal events, for date nights, etc. I would love to see your take on that.

    • @jessicaharrison4719
      @jessicaharrison4719 2 года назад

      As to this video, I have been building my collection over the past year, and have gotten up to about 20 bottles, and while I have gone through some bottles, I am at the point where I am uncomfortable with it growing so much faster than I can use it up, but I can't seem to stop trying new ones and I have favorites in a bunch of different genres. For example, 3 of my favorites right now are Guess Seductive Kiss (a tomboyish floral with grapefruit and wildflower notes), Franck Olivier Oud Vanille (prominent rose, synthetic oud, and vanilla notes), and Coty Wild Musk (a faintly floral and slightly animalic musk). All differ from each other widely, and all are in very different genres, but I can't stop smiling whenever I get a whiff of those three. Then again, even with clothing my personal style varies considerably, so perhaps my style is to not want to feel constrained to a specific style or genre. Who knows?

  • @FabFame

    Much needed reminder! Sometimes we get carried away. Everything smells so gooood! Bottles look sooooo pretty! You want to buy them all. I sample almost everything (99%) beforeI buy. Sometimes I sample twice just to be very sure! A few blind buys (less than 5 bottles in my collection) have snuck in there but I was certain I would love them! I realize sometimes the sample is all I needed to enjoy the fragrance and the huge bottle is not necessary. I keep a list of all my fragrances and their notes so I don't buy anything that smells like something I already have. I know what I like now, based on that list and so stick to that no matter what everyone is saying. No need to buy something just because everyone is talking about it.

    I went from a collection of 2 to 50 in less than a year. Luckily only one was a blind buy and that one quickly left lol. But I’ve slowed down a lot after purchasing many samples because I’m finding that fragrances that have the notes I like, tend to remind me of things I already have. I may buy 10 red lipsticks because they all have different shades, but I’m not doing same with perfumes lol! I’ve also gone through and had heart to hearts with myself about whether I actually like certain fragrances ON ME. In the air, on paper, and on other people won’t make a difference if I don’t like it on myself. So I’ve had to let some go.

    I love Fleur Narcotique but I just don’t spray it. I’m in the mood for it maybe a dozen times a year and otherwise it just sits there. I’d like to have a decant but that one can go.

    Just combine Erba Pura, Ivory Route and Si Fiori in one sleek looking bottle and sell it to me for a reasonable price and I don't need to look for another perfume ever!

    This is me this mid year… i love and want those sophisticated, sexy, alluring scents, boiii the hypes 😆 but i realise… most of the days… im just basic bitch 😂 i reach most of my simple, light and pretty fragrance… not the expensive heavy sexy ones. 😅
    Trimming down my collection had been so good. Timeless & decent varieties bc i know i will wear them for long time!
    However if i want to test new ones i make sure i just get small decants. Not buying big bottles anymore.

    Working on my consumption... "Buy buy spend spend" is reckless... Even if someone is wealthy
    In a perfect world, I would love to love a minimalist lifestyle. I currently have 8 full sized fragrances BUT like 50 8ml bottles
    Thank you for this video! We all need to downsize. Sell them, give them to a non profit specifically one for young ladies or women transitioning from domestic violence or incarceration

    This is very practical information Rhonda. I’ve been buying so so many. I love love woody, oriental fragrances. Something with vanilla , amber and a good patchouli note. I’ve noticed that the frags that have these notes are my favs. Also fragrances that are a beast in projection and sillage. I’m not into skin scents. I love to smell good and have a bubble around me. I’m a bit chaotic right now with purchasing frags and I need to get that under control. I just bought Angel Nova and I live the patchouli in it but now I want Very Good Girl and They’re similar so I’m trying to stop myself from buying it. I usually don’t wear the same fragrance two days in a row. I have so many but there are many of my over 60 bottles that I don’t wear… like at all. I need to build a timeless collection that I love. I am purchasing travel sizes so I can curb the blind buying fails too. My problem is that I watch so many fragrance videos and read on fragrantica that I just want to smell everything!😫🫣
