Your weapon was firing slower towards the end because the Ares has a habit of taking damage on the weapon. I think the tip might actually stick out through the shields, as well as eating damage from missiles, or pretty much any weapon hitting hull on the starboard half of the ship.
At the beginning he had the power triangle set to weapons, then he reset it. While lowering the weapon capacitor recharge rate, it also lowers the fire rate.
@@darjanator also true! My experience in the inferno and ion both had the weapon slowing down due to battle damage in pretty much any longer fight. Usually when grinding vhrts around the time the Ares platform released I'd end up needing to repair every 3 or 4 bounties due to only weapon damage.
You have to take a shield segment down first before you'll cause damage with lasers, so the whole orbiting thing means you're not really taking down the shields optimally, if you shift power to weapons you'd get more shots and faster charging.
A few years ago there were really heavy NPC pirate incursions around many of the space stations and planetary landing zones, and it wasn't uncommon for those ships to either spawn or clip into the interior spaces. Not the first time we've seen this.
I made a post on r/starcitizen about farming Idris beacons with the Ares Ion back in 3.17.1. It's really not that hard once you know how to do it, but there is always the chances that the Idris kills the NPC you need to protect while you're taking it down. It around 10min of constant shooting just for the Idris, if you focus on its back.
Cris - what can we do team to increase sales even more? Team - we can announce a 600i rework 475$ and say BMM is the current focus 700$, then after our the goal of sales is reached put both on the back burner with minimal investment. Cris - Mission accomplished, good work.
Pre-last wipe, I was soloing Idris' every time I had a chance - it's pretty easy... The easiest way is just to get a retaliator. Fire all six torps in two bursts, and down it goes. I've done it in one before though - direct hit to the face will do that. I've done it in a Talon too, because I could. Took a bit longer. It's considerably easier in atmo rather than in space though. The AI struggles with flying a bit
I really do hope they rework the ion and inferno. All they needed to do what lower its turn speed. Lowering its ability to track smaller ships so easily would've have been the much smarter fix. Doing that would've allowed them to ensure it had very high G straight line speed to hit and run larger ships and run from smaller fighters if necessary. The accuracy on the ion should not be so loose. You can barely hit an Idris accurately at 1000 m. If they tighten the accuracy back way up, increase the range and speed of the projectiles fairly significantly, greatly lower the rate of fire, but have each shot do like 25k alpha damage with long cooldown or reloads. Itd act more like a sniper on the large ships pecking away from a distance. More like the tonk cannon. This new "repeater canon" was a terrible "fix". There is no reason the cannon couldn't be doing as much as the size 5 on the tonk. Then the inferno needs a much bigger ammo pool, better accuracy, and a significant boost to fire rate. Same changes as the ion to its turn rate. Making it exactly what its meant to do... take down large or larger ships. And the reality would be any small ship caught in either ships cross hair gets wrecked and or shredded. Because as a small ship there should be almost no chance unless by accident that either ship could turn fast enough to keep up in a rate fight.
It took us 20 minutes to down the idris with a fully crewed redeemer. We don't bother with it anymore - You can do high threat beacons in 1/4th the time.
You can also do critical threat beacons without the Idris. Each beacon difficulty has typically 2 or 3 possible payouts, which determine which ships spawn. There is a critical threat for 309 and 320K respectively, the idris is on the 349K payout. The 309/320 spawn 3 HH's along with a host of support ships.

This is why most say the Ion was nerfed to the point it cannot do what it was made to do. It just doesn't have the fire power to take down large ships.

But you noticed that they mainly nerfed Alpha Dmg, precision and maneuverability. Against a HH or Idris the Ion is as good or bad as it ever was. CIG nerfed the ability to take out small ships easily.

It’s supposed to be able to hit from further away and leave before small fighters can be dispatched from larger ships. You cannot do this now. It’s a size 7 cannon and has a range worse than a size 5. Based on this video alone even if there where 5 ions in this battle their cumulative attacks would have still taken at least 3 minutes. No fully functional large ship is going to be without light fighter for that long. They would have back up very quickly and the ion is not supposed to be a small ship fighter.

Imagine buy a reeeeeeeealy expensive ship to play whit your friends and this ship can be done by one fighter!!! And is a ship designed to kill figthers. Very balanced. Nice vídeo
It can't keep up with light fighters or even heavy fighters like the Scorpius, Hurricane etc. It's job is to take out larger ships but it struggles to even do that. This is why Ares fans have been upset since the nerf. It's such a cool looking ship with a cool niche but it's basically a waste of money from a practical standpoint. I've taken out an Idris solo in a Scorpius a lil faster than that but not by much.
Persistence is the worst best thing they've added so far. Looks great and adds some much needed immersion to the game... At the same time it's killing the servers, I couldn't log on today at all. Not to mention it ONLY works on DEAD things. You got that cargo ship and finally have enough to make that JUICY cargo run? Been grinding the last few days and got that 400k+ to max out the Taurus in high value cargo? Well hopefully you don't get the first 30k you've ever seen immediately after leaving your buy place... And if you did that'd be a real shame if "persistence" only worked on dead things. Such a shame you were on Micro Tec and your ship is back at Orison now.... Such a shame. There is no way you an spawn or bring a ship in there in that location except if you fuck around with locationspoofing - which I guess means you just saw some hackers trying to work on their cheats.
i keep going to install the game again after every update and watch some ytube vids before i do the game actually needs more graphic options so when running around it doesn't feel like its running at 30fps cause thats the one thing thats needs addressing i really want to play it even if its buggy but i won't play it it in 30fps
These Service Beacons / Combat Assistance - CRITICAL THREAT (or lower) missions, are they new in 3.18 ? Do you need some kind of reputation to unlock them?
Honestly it baffles me how to make them show. I have had up to high threat beacons show after a while (so im guessing that is rep based). But it is random in if they show or not sometimes in current 3.17
They are in the current 3.17.4 live as well. You don't need rep to unlock them. They will show up in your contract manager under "service beacons" They don't always spawn though. You can go a day or two without seeing them.

I'm new to the game. I noticed he he not aligning the corsshair with the red/green trageting indicator. Have I been playing it wrong this whole time? I thought you had to line up your crosshairs with the inicator to land a shot.
He's using lag pip, not lead pip, which makes sense for large/close targets and when focusing on a specific part of the ship (like the back of the Idris in his case). Lead pip (the default setting I think) is more useful for smaller, fast moving targets and large range because it's easier to align and all that matters is where the target will be, not where exactly your shots will hit it.
I'm having a hard time not getting demoralized by this game. Got it a while ago and quit because I got bored and felt like I wasn't making any progress. Booted it up again after around 6 months, and spent an hour running a box mission which ended up being impossible because there was a sandstorm. I just don't know how to break into it and have fun without spending an insane amount of money on better ships. Anyone have any tips?
Try a different game loop. Any of them get boring when they become a grind, but if you mix it up you can get considerably more mileage out of the game. Also, even if you don't want to join an org look to join up with a couple people occasionally. Like for example myself personally, I have a lot of pledged ships and don't really care for org play at this point. When I get bored running solo i'll hit up global chat and see if there are any new people I can show around or take on some regulars to grind some bounties in a bigger ship or run a mole, you know something that can be done reasonably easily. Most importantly though i'd say, don't look at this as your everyday game. The reality is there isn't enough mission content to keep a solo player engaged in perpetuity, but on the other hand if you cycle in and play the game for several weeks every 6 months or so, well then it's much more interesting as you'll always have something new to check out when you come back and you can kind of recapture that awe you get when the game is brand new to you.
Imagine if they added new worlds that can be colonized by players and they can do new cities and hire people to do stuff and form societies... Super ambitious but.. Would be pretty sick...
The ship probably phased-in because of lag, I suggest Star Citizen have an option to reject laggy users, because they spoil the entire experience for the rest of us.

The crazy bugs in this game basically make Star Citizen a very strange horror game.

It wasn't made to work alone. It's supposed to fly in hunter-killer packs of 3-6 ships.

An Eclipse can take down an Idris if you fire off all 3 torps and they all hit the same general area but it’s unlikely to happen

Try with the retaliator or eclipse. A different experience.
A Retaliator sometimes kills an Idris with a salvo of 4 torpedoes if they all land in the same area. But usually it’s upwards of 12.

if you're getting 30 fps you're doing pretty decent. the game is not well optimized
