  • When you think of a traditional mermaid, Ariel from ‘The Little Mermaid’ or other cartoons come to mind. But, there are real-life mermaids living among us: people who are ‘professional’ mermaids inspiring others. While the mermaid profession has become increasingly popular, what exactly is “mermaiding”? And who is allowed to do it professionally? In this week’s Stay Tuned, we dive into the deep with two professional mermaids breaking the mold.

Society is getting weaker and weaker and weaker day by day

I was in a scuba shop recently and a paraplegic dude rolled in in a wheelchair to have some scuba equipment repaired. I watched in amazement as his conversation proved he was a diver. After he left I learned no he can't walk but yes he can swim like a fish and dives professionally and recreationally with great skill. His bouyancy compensates for the leg issues.

… y’all know these people don’t think they’re superhuman right??? They do this for fun, and commenters are coming at them like they’re delusional. Have you never seen someone in a costume?

This is actually technically accurate… sailors on long voyages would spot manatees and often mistake them for mermaids 🦭🧜‍♀️

I wanted to do this as a kid sooo bad! San Marcos Texas has a glass pool with mermaid performances, it seemed so glamours and I loved to swim. I thought it sounded like the best career ever!

Sad that some people focus on a person's disability before getting to know them.

So cool that they found a place they are happy in. I wish social media resulted this type of connection more opposed to the Jake Paul bs that just makes kids depressed and stupif

I live near Weeki Wachee, FL, where the real mermaids live. I can understand wanting to be one.
