My friend was on Carter watch! The band playing was the MCOE band out of Fort Benning (now Fort Moore).
For 4 years he was not allowed to leave more than a 200 mile radius of base in order to be able to be back in 4 hours when needed. Luckily, I went to FSU where there's tons of fun things to do 190 miles away, lol.
They all sacrificed something to be there and support president Carter on that day. The men and women I knew in that band stayed prepared and ready for it and viewed it as one of the greatest things they could do for their nation

It's better to be a good man than good president.

My cousin Jimmy's mom , Lillian was born in Richland in 1898 , which is where my grandmother Bobby Carter was born in 1900 . My dad's mom was the Carter and my dad was born in Richland in Oct 23 rd 1924 and of course his cousin was born 20 mins away in Plains Oct 1st 1924 . Jimmy's mom and wife and Navy gave him the foundation and drive beyond Plains , but Plains he carried with him always . Proud to call him cousin. Glad not just to have met him at our family reunion on May of 1998 , or couple letters exchanged , but his enduring example . Wish my dad could have lived longer as his cousin .

What a humble man, a great human being. for America and the world. Kennedy did with the Peace Corp, Carter with Habitat for Humanity. May there be another occasion fo Trump's MAGA to hold their bully horses and just keep away from bully-commenting on anyone? Just imaggine what may be said of you at your funeral.
