Yes! I had to shout out the My Super Sweet 16 episode as well. What a time to be alive! I remember loving Teyana's vibe and energy, and her episode being a total 180 from what we usually see on that show.
I remember being scared to watch this one at Sundance, but I'm so happy I did. I loved how this story wasn't only relegated to misery and struggle.....which I have to admit I was expecting.
I also appreciated the setting of 90's New York and seeing its (unfortunate) evolution over the years. I did think that the time jumps thinned out the story a bit, and we could've learned more about the main characters and their community.
Still appreciated this one overall. Can't wait to see what's up next for A.V. Rockwell! 👏👏👏
That’s a great point. So often MISERY is the main theme of these types of movies. But I think LOVE took the forefront in A Thousand And One.

I felt the same. The performances really carried this film and they did try to tell a lot of different stories within this story and it wasn’t fully linear. Was trying to do something akin to moonlight but wasn’t as successful. Super watchable though, did need some further edits though. B for me

I think y’all got it wrong they were not the 2nd family! He was married to teanya and that was the same girl from the beginning of the movie flirting with he just cheated
Right but the twist was neither he nor Teyana was blood related to the main character. After his marriage dissolved he only hung around for the kid's benefit while he raised his actual daughter somewhere else.
