@sixmoose1825 128 out by the power lines! we use to kick off every friday night with Roadrunner.. LOUD! then go roadrunnin.. we use to "drive past The Stop and Shop" on our way out of Quincy!
This is, like, maybe the ONE cover song Joan Jett should not have done. Don't misunderstand me; it's good ... I love that she used the verse with _"Consequently, it smelled like heaven"._ Adorable! That's from the second version by Jonathan Richman as a solo artist (he was backed by the Greg Kihn band). Joan would sound more like herself singing the first version from the _Modern Lovers_ album. Y'know, where, after _"Roadrunner Once / Roadrunner Twice"_, it's not "We're in love with this feeling now," or "I'm in love with the modern world", but "I'm in love with rock 'n' roll" (Hmm ... Do you suppose she IS?) Unfortunately, this version doesn't do the "RADIO ON" vocals right. You gotta hear how the Modern Lovers did it -- tighter and less plain. Just search for "roadrunner modern lovers" and avoid "jonathan richman"
+Ben Culture I'm from Boston, this is the song that started every weekend and we were ready to roll... and rock ( your fucking head off) if you were up to to the task. This song has very strong roots here. , it was about us Jett hacked it, Pistols hacked it. like David Bowie did with "Pablo Picasso" I hate when so called superstars hack up a simple great rock and roll song written from the heart
It surprises me again and again how Letterboy managed to hold on to that chair for more than 30 years now. He must have sensitive information about his employers. Joan's a tough cookie,a legend in her own right.
Never knew Joan covered this old Modern Lovers classic...It's all right and a nice nod to Jonathan (guess he made a few bucks on royalties from this), so that's cool...
Don't get me wrong...I like Joan Jett. She is very cool & has a good voice for R&R, but I guarantee she plays the same 4-5 bar chords on guitar in at least 75% of her songs.
It took almost 35 years, but he's finally gone ,the sycophant twerp....let's rejoyce ! Lousy Joany version this....she should stick to Boney Moroney....and her ilk....
Great raw version of the song...Joan is cool. Sex Pistols version is genius though and very funny...like it when John says do we know any other f''ng Beatles songs
To me, Joan Jett's version is better than the original Modern Lovers version. She brings it up a notch and to me is one of the best songs she ever released. Kudos to Jonathan Richman for writing a such great song however.
Nice performance. It's cool that she adapted it to NYC, but it was originally by Jonathan Richmond and the Modern Lovers and was all about BOSTON !
It's by the Modern Lovers.
Joan is really in her zone with this tune, its a tune that keeps going around in your head.
But how is her 'I'm a little dinosaur'?

Paul make look like an accountant but he knows music. JOAN JETT RULES.
yeah! :) i think so too!! Kristen was a GREAT pick! They both have an incredible personality :)
This Grrl will kick your ass & not think twice about it..
I didn't know Roddy Piper was the drummer for Letterman's band
if you look at Paul early on he is loving this jam!!
she's absolutely stunning.
Cantando y cantando.... y al final veo que comía chicle!! Jajajajaja qué graciosa se ve en éste video!!. Tremenda Joan Jett!!.
She's a force of nature - born to be on stage !
This is best song by Joan Jett.. Really speaks to those days out cruisin' the streets.
Very succinctly expressed. By that same token, that's why I like the song!
Wow!
she has a wireless transmitter
@kayteee138 Go watch the other live performances of this song on RUclips. She does the same thing every time.
Been looking for the Boston version that was all over the radio for a very long time. Links would be appreciated. :)
Joan Jett with her Gibson Melody maker oh yeah! .-)
Admiration, respect,...... hell I love this woman.
thumbs down for not being in love with massachusetts
@XYtruck25 the lyric she says as she did the movement was "say hello" so she was just doin a wave i think

Oh fer crissake. She nailed it.

gotta go thru hell to find this song!! Who originally penned it, anybody know?...
@XYtruck25 Yeah, she does those same hand movements to this day when she's performing the song.
Trying, but I'm getting no sound, and yes my speakers are on.
She looks like female young Johnny Depp.. Specially when she smiles:)
There are plenty of "real" rock & rollers around. You just have to go out into the clubs and look for them.
Never knew Joan covered this old Modern Lovers classic...It's all right and a nice nod to Jonathan (guess he made a few bucks on royalties from this), so that's cool...
She is sooooo cool! Rocks like nobody in this world.
JJ should have left it to Jojo.
i feel alive with 50,000 watts of power!
Radio on jukebox?
Now this is some rock and roll..
Lesbians, rocking in black leather--love it!!!
God this is so much better than the sex pistols version!!!!!!

I like that little head shake she does at 0:55
Rock's true last Rock & Roller.
is she not plugged in?
yeah i know she gets pisst off to easy
no thanks...with out richman singing its just not the same...not real enough
You don't take the quintessential Massachusetts song and change the lyrics so it's about New York. Lame to the extreme.
Meh. It's a Boston song not a NYC song. She's got a lot oh heart but this is a miss.
It took almost 35 years, but he's finally gone ,the sycophant twerp....let's rejoyce !
Lousy Joany version this....she should stick to Boney Moroney....and her ilk....
Boo! This song is a tribute to the beauty of suburban Boston. Changing the lyrics to make it about NYC is just plain wrong.
Great raw version of the song...Joan is cool. Sex Pistols version is genius though and very funny...like it when John says do we know any other f''ng Beatles songs

im sorry,i dont like her interpetation......she strangled the spirit of the original and made it a joan jett song.
Too bad her career tanked after she married Chaci.
