This battle really helps get you hyped for the battle of the four dragon slayers a bit later in the arc but the fact Fairy Tail was behind from the start of the arc and rose up, makes it more exciting to watch and the fact by this point you know the main cast pretty well and become attached to them, makes it even more enjoyable no matter the number of times you rewatch the battles. One thing I do hand to the original creator of Fairy Tail, is the use of the time skip, instead of the characters getting stronger as a lot of these types of manga do, it focuses on the changes that have happened while the cast were presumed dead, such as the Guild's fall from promidance and how their moral fallen with it, the passing of Lucy's father and the effect it had upon her to learn he had died and they would never see each other again that is clever writing and really changes how a time skip is used in these battle manga type stories, sure we get a more normal type of time skip after the Tartarus arc but I do think the seven year time skip is used extremely well to show how things can change within a short space of time.
Somehow Levy's quotes at the end made this fight 10 times more intense.. I was having goosebumps during the entire battle.. and they just skyrocketed at the end.
The moment Fairy Tail rose from the ashes and Titania reminded the world WHY Fairy Tail was and IS Number 1 Edit: I already loved Erza before this episode BUT this episode brought my love for her to soar higher than ever
The best part of this whole build up was when she announced it and rather than be concerned about the outcome it would have on the competition Natsu explodes laughing knowing that Fairy Tail won't give up without the biggest fight they can. Then Lucy's recounting of it as the battle plays out for emotion is very good in the dub. Drawing the emotions of the viewers in such a way is a lost art in todays shows. It isn't just some glitter bombing explosions, instead covering how everyone feels and why things are done the way they are so you feel for the characters. Storytelling in pro-format that I wish there was more. Also the overlay of emotion laden music during the recounting... everything about this was awesome.
this is honestly one of my favorite fights from ft I get so emotional watching this and get so much goosbumbs it reminds her of her entrance when erza first used her magic for the first time against the eisnwalled thugs I love that moment to but this was def my fav ezera moment
I've often wondered who all on the team could've completed that event the way she did and what I found is that it came down to certain uncertain factors. If all the monsters appeared in the fortress at once; I stress 'if' because based on the way it plays out it definitely seems like they gradually spawn; but if? Then I think Natsu could've done it in a Lightning Flame dragon explosion ala Majin Vegeta; vaporizing all monsters and the entire fortress in a single blast because otherwise? I don't see Natsu having the extreme control of magic energy release per beast or Gray having the sheer power necessary for the latter creatures. Natsu tended to run out of energy too soon for his own good back in those days and Gray never had the damage heights needed to overwhelm enemies of Natsu's explosive level at that time. Post second time skip though it's an entirely different situation (obvious power gains aside) Natsu explicitly trained himself to have Erza's level of stamina control and Gray had gained and heavily trained a doppleganger raw power magic to Natsu's with his Devil Slayer magic. Wendy wouldn't have stood a chance and I'm not convinced she would now either (barring any Irene interference) nor Lucy unless of course she were able to pull off multiple Hyper Magics with Gemini and her new trained wellspring of energy. Surely this is far too long a blurb to put in a youtube comment but I think I've wanted an appropriate spot to drop this suddent coalition of the general ideas I've maintained regarding the Pandemonium Fortress and the rest of Fairy Tail A's chances in there; ultimately Erza was the only one with a sure fire win for the challenge in so unique an execution (barring of course the hypothetical 'all monsters spawn at once Natsu LF explosion' supposition). That is all.
Star Dress lucy could probably also have manged it, while her control is not as good as erzas, in raw magic energy she outshines the whole damn guild, and she has a near equal level of versatility, the only other figther beyond previously mentioned i see clearing it is mira, but she cant keep up for as long as lucy or erza, and is another step down in versatility,

Mirajane has a lot of raw power and a lot of firepower with all of her Souls, but she tends to burn through her magic energy pretty fast, so she probably wouldn't been able to sustain a prolonged fight like this

Erza's only good fight after the festival of lightning arc. No Nakama power, no plot armour and no stupid boring fight. The ost gave it something cool too. Yet I think if she was able to do that means almost many characters can do that so it was not really a hard fight but it was a more logical and good fight.
And if you are wondering yes I h∆t£ Erza, I love good dynamic characters, Ezra is a flat character. And I love an independent strong woman who will not act differently in front of her lover, and more importantly, won't ∆band0n her friends and her duty of fighting scary strong £n£m!es just to go and find him, or give up saving her friends from an explo$ion so she can hug her abu$ℹ️ve lover. Also, I don't want a woman who will express how much she doesn't care about others sa©rifice as long as her lover lives this is soo sakura style.
And more importantly, I don't want a woman who is hyped for her for©ed winnings fights by using Nakama power or plot armour.
