I made this and it was awesome! But, for anyone trying to make it, a few things: I used a Bundt cake as the base with a small cup in the hole (to hold the dry ice) and two other round littler cakes on top of that to make it taller. It’s a little easier. Then you have to make a little extra cake to have it to make the lava at the end. And while the melted hard candies look awesome as lava, my kids don’t like them. You can also make the lava running down the cake with caramel sauce with red food coloring and it looks almost as good. Thank you so much for the idea! My son loved it!

they used boxed cake mix because this is a decorating tutorial, not a recipe...people will just make the cake batter from scratch if it's so bland and dry

It is easy, just put cereal into a bowl and pour some milk, stir and your done.
I would use the cake scraps to make cake pops that can be boulders around the bottom because that would be way easier to eat and a bit more pretty, I think.
