I didn't love this series yet every time I finished a book I had to know what happened. I loved the story but some of the characters really infuriated me with how many poor choices they made. Haha. I think the 3rd book was actually my favorite. I do agree that it's a good bridge between YA and Adult 😊
Great video, Abby! I listened to the first two books on audio and then DNF'd the series. I did enjoy the first book. Hard to say exactly why I felt less interested after that second book, but I found myself not relating or connecting to the characters after a while. I do think Tahir has an excellent writing style and many clever ideas. I like how you described it as fun with darker themes. Great overview of the series!
Thank you Johanna. I can understand that. The first book was my favourite in the series - it had a certain magic to it that I didn't find in the rest of the series. I am looking forward to what she does next
Just finished Reaper at the Gates and wanted some EitA booktube. Currently Reaper, least fave but enjoyed the addition it gave to the series and lack of love triangling 😉 Ember 2nd and Torch is my favourite- enjoying reveals but am going put my brain that Delphinium is not on the map! Where is that location ????😆💜📚
I've recently finished reading the series. Actually, it wasn't super bad but I can't say I loved it and I'm not sure that's the type of book I'll be rereading anytime soon, if ever. Everything started off great, I'd even liked it at first but I figured out the ending before I even read a half of the 1st part. That disappointed me a bit but then I started reading the 2nd part and I loved it, it's my favourite one. Then I moved on to the 3rd and the 4th part and honestly, if I somehow made it through the 3rd book, I barely had any will left to finish the last one. Sabaa Tahir simply put all the characters in the 4th part down the drain. Well, also, speaking about the 3rd part, I've been thinking about it lately and I honestly can't remember what's happening there. It's like it was erased from my mind the moment I finished it, really. It's certainly not the best series I've read... It took me about 5 months to finish and in comparison, I've read the Harry Potter franchise in 2.5 months, considering there's twice as more in every book than in these series
I'm sorry the series didn't completely work for you. It's such a shame when a series goes down hill. A lot of it has slipped out of my mind too, particularly book 3 is not memorable.
Thanks for this - I was trying to decide whether to collect paperbacks or hardbacks for the series 🤔 sensible I should go for paperback, but I do love a hardback and if I love a series I like it in hardback, but shelf space wise paperback would be perhaps better for me 🤔 sadly the library did not have it in when I went. Really pleased the and his good as that is what can ruin a series for me and will make me not want to start if it was promising then disappointed. So helpful and I will get to it at some point.. . But I have just added Malice to my under bed library 😃
@@AbbySalter sometimes I love a mish mash, but other times a matching set brings joy...it is a tough call. I am so excited for Malice, saw it for £5 on World of Books! Have a few series to finish of first as I just feel I am going to want to binge them!
I completely understand that! I reread book 3 before reading book 4. And this is why I am now trying to read complete series so I can avoid all this rereading.
I wanted to read one of Cassandra Clare's trilogies (the infernal devices) but even tho I am 100% intrigued, it is a part of a larger, consistent series and at the moment, I just don't think I have the time for such a large series (even tho I would love to, my schedule as a high schooler doesn't allow me to that😂 I couldn't even read the throne of glass series by Sarah J Maas (even though I've read all of her other books) because again, it is a lengthy series! Btw, I'd love to see you reviewing, or making a similar video (should you read the throne of glass series) for the throne of glass series), and even though an ember in the ashes is a 4 book series, it is just one series, and hence I've thought of reading it, your video has 100% helped me in making this choice! I shall read the first book, and if I enjoy it, I'll continue it! Absolutely loved this video! You've definitely earned a subscriber😁 (Oh wow I didn't even realise how large my comment hasended up becoming😂)
I can understand that both Cassandra Clare and Throne of Glass can be intimidating now to start. I've read both but was reading them as the books were released so didn't have the fear of starting such a massive series. I have a video talking about Throne of Glass going up in the next couple of weeks but it's not a direct recommendation video it's more of a comparison video to another series. I hope you love the Ember in the Ashes series! ❤️
Depending on which elements you liked. I think if you liked the djinn, magic system elements then I'd recommend the Daevabad trilogy by SA Chakraborty (I have a should you read for this and absolutely adore it!). In terms of the faster paced upper YA fantasy plot with romantic subplot I'd recommend Poison Study by Maria V Snyder, Crown of Feathers by Nicki Pau Preto or Truthwitch by Susan Dennard as ideas.
Hi, how would you rate this compared to the Grishaverse books for an adult reader? I'm not a fan of YA, but I am enjoying the Grisha trilogy at the moment.
I read Shadow and Bone 7 years ago so can't remember much now. I would say that they both have a similar addictive, easy writing style. Ember in the Ashes leans older especially with the later books in the series.
I could see there being elements of it that you like but I could see you getting frustrated with the characters as they are quite YA. And I can't see you loving many YA books.
I really don’t think this should be a question, just you should read this series 😂😂😂 I need to get to the final book, hopefully this month. I feel like it’s gonna break my heart 🙈
Thank you! ❤️ The first one is the old British edition, the second is an arc, 3 & 4 are the new British covers. So stupid books will never match. I got the Waterstones special edition of the 4th which is signed and has pretty pink sprayed edges.
I'm on the first book and I can't put it down. I tell myself I won't read it before I sleep and then...It's 3 in the morning and I have work the next day 😂
I enjoyed the first book, but I liked the next two progressively less and less. I don't even know if I will finish the series, even though there's only the last book I haven't read! I think that I just found Laia too generic and Mary Sue-ish as a character, and the romance to be too insta-lovey.
I can understand that. The first book was my personal favourite - it had a magic that I didn't find in the rest of the series. I'd say if you're not excited to read it then don't. We only have so much time in our lives so you might as well read something that makes you happy instead of pushing through a book just because it completes the series. I did find it a satisfying conclusion but I guess you could always look up a plot summary so that you can get some closure if that's needed.

Some of the time I did just want to shake some sense into them.
My favorite YA series, and definitely in my top 5 series overall. I will definitely reread down the line ❤️
I'm so happy you loved it! I've reread all of the books apart from Sky now.
the edition you have of the first book is gorgeous!!! i can't wait to pick up book 2 of this series.
It's the original UK hardback from back in the day. I wish the whole series was done in that style.
I hope you love book 2

I just realised from your description that I read the first book when it came out, really liked it but totally forgot to carry on with the series!
Are you going to? @Sam Passlow-Thomas
Oh you definitely should! It's a lot of fun!

I'm hoping to at least start this series in 2021
I hope you're able to! I think once you start it might be a struggle to stop
