The "GREAT AL JOHNSON" on lead vocals! This is one the truly great soul sangers of all time. Writer, Composer, Keyboardist., he can do it all. I have watched him work in the studios, the brother is genious! GENIOUS!!!
Sing brother Beginning of my end used to tear my heart out I was 15 when it came out and today at 64yrs lt still makes me cry this was a big hit for the group They are Unific!
RIP Al Johnson. Soooo many memories of the Unifics' songs growing up in the DMV; the blue lights in the basement parties; the oldies clubs. Wonderful voice and still sounded great on this video.
My husband grew up with him in DC (he had a nickname but I can't remember it). His family moved and one day he heard that he joined the singing group and was the lead singer. What a voice! The neighborhood was shocked.
Every time I watch this it's like seeing it for the first time. They are mesmerizing performers, chorography always on point, bar none!! It's like I am back at the Howard theater, front row. Great memories!💜💜💜
As an entertainer perpetuating 60s/70s R&B Soul music, I give the UNIFICS the utmost respect. Young entertainers please take note. The UNIFICS are still putting it down like the way it was done 30+ years ago.
So glad to see these old groups finally getting the recognition they deserve. Those of us that grew up to this music now have money and will gladly pay to see some real singers and musicians.
I saw these guy's back in 1970 in Greensboro n.c. at the soul festival with the mighty Dell's the Delfonics and the Impression and others I was 17 seems I will never forget.
Saw Gregory Cook at the 6th Annual Classic R&B Weekend. He looked outstanding and still had the ladies going crazy. What a great guy he is with a wonderful spirit. I love the UNIFICS!!!!! For this reason The Unifics will be approached to be part of the 7th Annual Classic R&B Weekend in November 2013. Last time I saw them in Philadelphia at a moon Man affair they WERE OUTSTANDING receiving multiple standing ovations because the group is tight and Al Johnson is a genius!!!

This is by far one of the best groups out there. I have used them and really hope to book them again soon. What a shame we do not get to see some of the true GENIUS GROUPS as much as those other types. I really will push to get them involved very soon. Just sorry I have not used them more. Guys keep up the great singing (Charlie and Al are off the hook). and the steps are just as sharp as years ago.
Saw them at the Apollo back in the day they would come on stage and all you would see is white iridescent gloves. The stage would be completely dark. They would tear the place down One of the best groups of that time you won't see any more like this again
chico1250 I REMEMBER THOSE DAYS AS WELL AT THE APOLLO THEATER ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY DID THE BEGINNING OF MY END THERE WASN'T A DRY EYE IN THE HOUSE IN MY OPINION THEY WERE THE GREATEST SINGING GROUP EVER TO TOUCH A MICROPHONE AND A STAGE.
Al I want to say God Bless you and the Unifics. Thanks for having The Camaros Band play behind you guys in Bethesda. So much talent in the D.C. area. The 60's were a hellava decade. From Doc and the rest of the Camaros

Oh yes!!! Don’t know if these cats are the original group members But they sound just like the 45rpm that I was given by a radio host many many years ago. One of the best songs spinning at that time.
For sure Al Johnson (lead singer) and Greg Cook are from the original Unifics, and likely the other two as well but I can’t be sure. Sadly, Al Johnson passed about 10 years ago.
The Unifics... The Mad Lads and The Manhattans all wore white gloves when they performed. They still sound good! There's nothing better than an old school slow jam! 🎶💖
Aaron, you should be very proud. Your fathers group was one of the few groups that, in my opinion had moves that were up there with the Temptations, Contours and Anthony and the Imperials. And, they sounded great as well. It is always so nice when family members chime in on these posts.
