I have the same top per variator kit on my prebug. Bought it a few months ago and i commute 10 miles a day 5 days a week. Looks fine for now but i def have to try out that sharpie trick!
Makes sense I bought a used scooter 700 miles on it. It gets to 55 mph when I first test drove it. Now it's going 45 mph 50 if pushed and it's lunging. Not a steady consistent pull.
Pls, help! I was playing with the roller weights. Went with heavier first. Everything was ok, but the scoot was slower. Went with a bit lighter expecting good results and the loud squealing from the variator started. Could the worn belt be the cause? It is 18,5mm nominal, but 17,5mm measured.
I just bought an Infiniti SUV with a CVT transmission. It is my first time driving a car with a CVT, and I must say that I like the way it drives. I get the concept of CVT, and I can picture what it's doing as I drive...but I cannot understand HOW the belt (albiet metal teeth in my car and not a rubber belt) is gripped by the pullies/variator - essentially on its sides. Like....HOW is it possible for the belt to have enough traction against the smooth pulley surface to move the whole vehicle? I would think that that is an incredible amount of stress on the belt and with the torque of the engine and weight of the vehicle, shouldn't the belt slip and/or grind itself away? That is the one thing I cannot grasp on these transmissions. I would think that the pully would "grip" to the belt somehow. It is even more of a mystery to me in scooter applications like this - the belt has teeth. So....what are those teeth for, if the pully is really "gripping" the side of the belt?
The CVT in cars do not work like rubber belts, it has a push belt, it pushes the Pully insted of pulling it like rubber belts do, it sounds like I'm pulling you leg, but it's true, they are friction limited, you don't see 700hp trucks with cvt's. I saw something where Nissan invented a CVT with just pulleys, I don't know if they started using them yet, there is a guybon RUclips, that is a instructor at a auto school, server something I'm thinking, he goes through car parts further than the service manual! It's a great source of info, he disassembles things that are not ment to be apart! Shows how it all works! He has a few CVT videos if you are interested! Weeber auto or something,
My 49cc scooter keeps braking the belts, do you have any idea why belts keep breaking. It use 669 18 30 belts but after like a week or so it breaks. The variator and clutch is fine but just the belts keep breaking. So frustrating. Any tips?
Unfortunately not too sure as we can’t diagnose bikes without having them. Likely an issue with a cvt component such as one of your Pulleys or alignment
I changed my stock variator to st6 pro race variator. So i was running with stock belt and it was just revving hight but gaining like 10kmh with wide open..the belt was very tight and pretty deep in the back variator so i just ordered malossi special belt. Hope it starts working. Hope you will answer to this!
Question: could you remove a small amount on the variator pully face near the boss to decrease the overall width and gain more top end that way? I have a brand new scoot and the wear on my variator pully is about the same as the one you used in your vid. the belt is also brand new. another Q: I noticed on the drive face gear there was about a 1/2 mm protrusion sticking out. it occurred to me that I could file it flus to reduce the inside overall width with ought any substantial change to its overall structural integrity, but before I go off half cocked, i thought id run the idea by someone who knows this stuff inside and out. thanks
I live in europe and our scooters are limited to 28 mph (45kmh). Could a bad/worn belt and roller weight make the engine rev more and cause worse gas mileage? Because that is what i'm experiencing.
I have a gy6 125 scoter i changed the variator and belt cause they were really wornn and i lost a lot of power and top speed was 90kmh now it doesn't go pass 70 it has 12 gram rolers in it in take of the engine doesn't rev that high and its struggling with uphils
Hello mate question my 125cc chinese back done 600 plus miles when I accelerate i get this squeaky noice coming from the clutch area which I loose my pull off speed when upto 9mph it stops also sometimes I get like a pull back when accelerate like a jam then it kicks back to normal would love your feed back to what it might be or to be changed.thanks
2022..still a helpful video; thanks
I gained 8mph swapping out for a new one. Keep in mind when you install diff width belts you need to shim your variator
What u mean shim

Above Mercury excellent kit. This isn’t going to be a common issue, it will only see high wear if your doing a lot of on and off throttle (wheelies)
