- Atlanta took the world by storm with its blend of outrageous comedy, surrealism, and fantastic drama. Not gonna lie, I'm pretty late to the show, so a lot of people have already talked about what makes Atlanta so great. However, I haven't seen much discussion on one of the shows main themes: identity. Every aspect of Atlanta speaks to the theme of identity, wether it be Earn's desire for the identity of successful black man taking precedence over everything else in his life, or the effect of fame on the main cast, Atlanta has something to say about Identity. I believe this theme is best explored through Alfred, AKA Paper Boi, in Season 2 Episode 8 titled "Woods"

I'm 46 and The Woods is one of my favorite episodes of television of all time. That old man in his mind was heavy and them Georgia woods do look like they go on forever. Excellent video.

thank you for showing me the meaning behind this. I am a suburban asian man, so i am constantly fighting self-censorship, because I'm supposed to be an upright law abiding normie, who is polite and good at math and making a steady living. My true self is constantly trying to break free, because I am a very flawed, emotional, impulsive, and almost spitefully doing the opposite, but the Eddie Huang types also exist, and I am not exactly that.

I was just watching f. D. Signifier talk about Kanye and how rappers have to keep a level of cay fabe in their lives to portray a level of black masculinity that is commodified to the main stream.
