I hope you get your thousand subs. Admittedly, slightly cruder than average, but surprisingly full of more valuable information than most every other beginner video I’ve seen.
Did he mention poise? light poise threshold, especially for AI is at 51. So when trying to equip drip, try to get to medium roll and to 51 poise at minimum. That allows you to poise through attacks which just means that you won t get your own wind up attack interrupted when an enemy thinks of himself as cheeky and stabs you mid animation.
One tip that I would like to give to noobies is to practice your move sets. I like to practice at the gate front. When you pick up a new weapon that you like, don't go level it up until you figure out all of its unique moves, and see if it feels comfortable. R1 = light, R2=strong hold R2=charged. Crouch and swing is usually the same move as Dodge and swing. You also have jump attack, and running attack, and if you stand still and hit Dodge you jump backwards, swing now and you have a back step attack, which usually lunges forward. There's a reverse backstep attack but that's a little bit advanced. Also, if you're dual wielding two of the same weapon, you have a unique L1 and L1 jumping attack. If you are dual wielding and never hit the left bumper, your left weapon will never swing. When holding a shield or two handing a weapon, L1 is used for blocking. If you have a shield that has parry, L2 is for parrying. If you have a shield with an ash of War, L2 will do that skill that's on your Shield not the one that's on your weapon. If you have a shield with no skill, L2 will use the ash of war that is on your right weapon, but L1 still blocks. Learn all the things that your weapons can do, and use this knowledge to your advantage
I love learning the moveset of new weapons I find. With dual great swords, crouch L1 is amazing, and crouch light is so fast its great to catch people in pvp
@@joegella I've watched playthroughs of people that use only the weapons that they got early on in the game and never even try out the ones they are picking up. You don't have to use them in the playthrough, but they're fun to mess around with and sometimes you find something you like. Yeah, some of the weapons crouch attacks are awesome, like the Bloodhound Fang and The Morning Star.
For getting gud I would advise to do a restricted weapon leveling run. So you can level your character as normal, but not your weapon. I'd take some regular ass weapon like a straight sword, or a hammer, don't infuse it, and level it only by 1 or after you beat a big area or boss. (I leveled a regular smithing stone weapon up by 1 after each mandatory big boss, so +1 after Godrick, +2 after Renalla...), so you end up with like a +6 - +10 weapon at the end of the run. This forces you to learn the bosses/enemies movesets, and take advantage of the gaps in their moveset with the toolbox, that you weapon gives you. From light to heavy, to jumping to running attacks... This is tremendous fun, and really makes you better at the game.
That's actually a really interesting way to play. I can definitely see how that gets you better because it's basically a general handicap over the whole game
Never played a dark souls game, and combat is different. This vid gave me info on how it was different: jump on release of button, weapon scaling, jump heavy attacks.
I’ve learned so much in this video, oh my god. Couldn’t have explained it more precise and intelligible. Especially the magic part. You’ve earned a like from me 100%
Hope you get your thousand subs I watched for the jokes and learned a lot of stuff I didn’t even know was in the game. keep it up man I’m really liking your videos:)
One thing I still struggle with is just knowing what moves I can do. Like crouch attack with 2 katanas was a surprising one, or the feint attacks with rapiers
Go to 8:54, I put a list of all the moves you can do for any weapon. It's a good thing to know what the moveset is for your weapon so you can always clap those cheeks
@@joegella Not fully. Mostly to see how far I can push myself. and So far, fully SOLO, I defeated every major boss, got into the snow areas and working on Ranni's ending (but i doubt i can beat the game at 1), I'm trying to find ways to beat Command Naill without using the cheeze jumps and such.
@@joegella Just gave it an honest try. My BEST attack did very little damage against him. And since it's a timed use (3 minutes) and at THAT damage and how little I can use it.. he is impossible for me. I simply do not have the magical power to outlast his HP bar. I hit him the least out of every boss thus far. and his Two Knights.. they both can 1 shot me. so yeah, this IS how far I can go.
I noticed this when playing dark souls 3 for the first time. It felt to me like dodging was delayed, so I started testing it out and realized it happens when you release the button. I think this has something to do with the part where both running and dodging are on the same button. So the game waits for you to release the button before dodging, because if you don't release it then it'll make the character run instead
You can't blame most people for approaching this game the way they do. Most RPGs it's just a matter of leveling your way out of the hard parts. Didn't work? Don't change your approach. Just level up. You can't do that in Dark Souls and other difficult RPGs like Kingdom Come Deliverance. Or the original Dragon Age. You have to plan your strategy.
@@joegella Part of planning a strategy is recon. I fought Malenia fifteen times solo, just to understand her character before I even tried to take any serious crack at her. It was all trying different weapons, summons, and approaches. Beat her in two days. If I played this like I did skyrim, I'd still be fighting her.
My first time killing malenia involved me switching my build to a double katana blood build, plus using mimic tear. This was probably 4 days after the game came out and no balance changes were made yet, so the mimic tear didn't have a nerf. The mimic and I absolutely destroyed her in like 30 seconds, both phases
Yeah I do lean towards that type of humor a lot. I'm thinking the next video will have some other types of jokes, but certain things are just hilarious to me. Thanks for the feedback and I hope you still took some good tips from the video!
