    This footage clearly shows just how crazy a Bushfire can get, and even with the aid of a fire truck and 5 well trained crew it is a struggle to keep up with all the spot fires and the harsh conditions. I want this video to educate people who live in bushfire risk areas all over the world to know that a little preparation can go a long way, by clearing out 20m around your house, putting in sprinklers and making sure you have enough water to last you the whole job are just a few small things that will give you a much better fighting chance in saving your house.
    For all of those who have been wondering We are all CFS Volunteers and do this job not for the money but because our hearts are in it and we just want to help were we can.
    Please do not hesitate to Donate to the CFS Foundation every single dollar is a great help: To assist in the relief of suffering, disability, distress or misfortune of CFS volunteers resulting from their community service activities.

    This footage was shot by volunteer firefighter: Ben Wilson on Friday the 2nd of January 2015 with a Gopro hero 3 Black edition.

    Truly amazing efforts, Ben. All of the firefighters who worked so hard to keep people and homes as safe as possible are heroes. Whether or not you think so, we all do. I was 7 when the Ash Wednesday fires hit. I stood outside my primary school gates and watched 100ft flames raging across the hills just east of Glen Osmond - I can still see them as clearly today as I did that day.
    Even though I now live in Brisbane, I watched with equal parts fear, awe and the hope that no one would lose anything more than property. And for the most part no one did. From someone who has never wielded a hose, never faced these kinds of conditions and has never dreamt of having to, I thank you and all CFS, CFA and RFS volunteers who put their lives on the line.

    • @GingerNinnja
      @GingerNinnja 10 лет назад +1

      Chunky Roma ILove Mud The thing is, more of these videos will be giving those Fire bugs a kick, and a reason to want to light another fire. What you saw in this video was 1 of many fire crews helping protect/Save "Structures". I am a QLD Volunteer RFF, and those guys down south (SA,NSW,VIC) have larger fires then we do up here. If Property owners in my area in Central QLD did the right thing and maintained Fire breaks around their property, I could assure you that at least 80% of fires which get away would be stoppable. Down South these fires burn through the forests, collecting more heat and fastly become unstoppable. I believe a documentary should be made about Bush fires, and show people just how much they could do to prevent them.

    • @Phatman77777
      @Phatman77777 10 лет назад +3

      I don't mean i hope there are more instances when people and their property are in danger, I only hope that when fires like this brake out that firefighters make more videos like this. To show us what it is like to have to be in the heart of the fight.

  • @oscargoldman85
    @oscargoldman85 10 лет назад +1

    You see the real danger where spot fires start up a minute after the guys ran past.
    The embers just blow in and its so hot and dry it goes up at once, its not just the creeping front, you can find yourself behind a second line of fire.. and thats how you get trapped.
    Props to these guys for doing a tough, dangerous job.

      dan110024 Mate, I don't believe that was a water bomber, It was only a small 2-3 seater plane. In QLD we Use them on large fires for aerial "Guidance". Basically to keep track of the fire front and giving us a good idea of what we can't see from the ground. But at 7:50 That looked like a bomber as you could see it actually dropping water.
      I may be wrong, but I'm just taking a good guess.
      But yes, Big Balls indeed.

    As a Volunteer QLD Rural Firer Fighter, I have seen quite a few bad fires, But nothing compared to what these Men & Women are fighting at the moment.
    Watching this video may open peoples eyes to realise, Fighting fires is hot, hard work. Also, One should never rush when putting out flames, A job done right is a job done slowly. That fire truck probably holds about 5,000L ? If I'm correct, and Though that sounds like a lot of water, It really isn't.
    My thoughts are with all fire fighters, your family, and every one affected by these fires.
    Stay safe

      Ross E.
      Nope. That's one of the fire bombers. There are a couple of big bombers (one from Canada) but more choppers and small planes. A problem we have in insufficient fresh water supplies for the big boys. Very few lakes and reservoirs suitable for a super scooper.

      Ross E. The fixed wing aircraft are actually water bombers, combined with a helicopter that sits up to 5,000ft above the fireground and coordinate the drops

      Ross E. It might actually be the Bird Dog, seeing as it doesn't have a tank mounted to the underbelly

      3:50 is just a scout, the water bomber is seen through the trees at 7:50
      I'm thinking the scout was trying to get a better look at the crew/structure for Incident control. (or what ever they call them down south)

    How are there sometimes just tiny spots burning? Not "even close" to big fires?

      @@DevObama440 It's a little of both. If the area is preheated, then ember attack is more likely to cause ignition.

      @@SafeTrucking Or sticks, leaves or wood may have fallen on the spot where there hasn't been any fire, and ignite it. (Of course areas that have been preheated)

    Where I live in Ontario Canada we set up sprinklers on the structures and than walk away and move onto the next structure. We let the vegetation burn around the structures. It takes less man power, less water and more properties can be saved. Good job brothers.

    Damn, that was a nasty, spotty fire. What was the wind? Are they all that way in OZ? I would consider a perimeter sprinkler system a necessity and clean the gutters and push the leaves back at the start of every fire season....

    • @Bilson1808
      @Bilson1808  6 лет назад +1

      watchthe1369 The wind picked up just before we got there. Not 100% on the speed though.
      Yeah we get some real bad fires here due to our afternoon wind changes. If they come down from the North (middle of Aus) it’s dry and hot, meaning the fire is going to pick up fast.
      You’re 100% right, if people prepared better we almost wouldn’t be needed. But this family chose that due to their location and vegetation it was safer to leave than stay and fight. They were right in doing that.

    • @watchthe1369
      @watchthe1369 6 лет назад +1

      @@Bilson1808 There are a lot of "Urban Interface" videos out for the USA They have a lot of information that would probably translate. I doubt any wind driven fire has ever been contained once you get above 30 Mph even if it ran into a freeway, it usually manages to jump them...
      All you can do then is hope you have everything prepared and dive into the shelter and hope you have a house and tractor when you crawl out.
