I am the toilet tattoo I would like to say, I'm still an apprentice and both of them tattoos are on pig skin, I wouldn't try realistic tattoos on real people yet as I'm not ready. I do just stick to more trad style tattoos buy because my mentor dosnt do realistic stuff I sent these in as I would like to do them in the future. Iv had people coming to my profile telling me to stop tattooing, everyone starts somwhere you don't just pick up a machine and be amazing. Thanks you for the advice pony would have been a good experience if it wasn't for some bad apple
i admire you for submitting your work- not many artists, experienced or apprentice, have the balls to do that and then take the criticism. use the bad apples as fuel for your 🔥 🔥
Pony, I have so much respect for you for maintaining your mentorship and professionality and providing legitimate, constructive feedback on these. It shows you really care about helping people improve their tattooing to have not just slid into roasting people's tattoos.
Alot of the anime tattoo was just mimicking the art style of the creator and the little leaves in her hair is actually her hair. She has a tiny braid wrapped around her buns. I think if people submit heavily stylized anime they should include the ref so you can tell what's on purpose and what's not
Pony, I really love and find it very helpful when you do the drawings over the tap while you're explaining it it makes what you're explaining so much easier to understand
Heyyo, noah_zuid here. Thank you so much for the critique, if i get a chance that gengar will definitely get a touch-up and ill try to slow down more generally. Really appreciate you man!
I really like that you included a spotlight tattoo this time. I love getting to find out about new artists. Also, I sincerely hope the toilet tattoo is on practice skin.
He said in another comment that it is. He also said he’s still an apprentice and his teacher is a traditional artist. So the submitted tattoos was him branching out.
When it comes to the Jolyne tat, i can see how he thought it was leaves and not braids. It is lacking the linework and shape that would make it look like braids. The shapes aren't uniform or tucking into one other but rather going in behind which is emphasized by the very slight shading. I think it needs to first fix that structure but then use the shading and highlights that are used in the bangs to closely relate that its the same texture. The lines on the face are going with the style, but since its the undereye lines are higher then it is on the nose it looks abit jarring. It could be the linework for the eye but its just too close to the nose and is easily mistaken. Need to have the lines end on that bridge and for the lines under the eye have then not come into contact with the bridge of the nose and have them not as long or bunched up similar to the other eye
The anime girl is from JoJo's Bizzar Adventure. And the nose issue is just how it's actually animated so it should be there. I agree with everything else.
Hi mate, love your work it’s really what I want to get into!!! I’ve just started as just got my first machine last week, I’m doing the practice skins at the moment and hopefully get into a studio someday as an apprentice ( very hard to find anywhere in the south west of England!!!) do you critique practice skins? If so dude where do we send them? Thanks and keep up the great videos!!! Neil… sorry noticed where to send now 👍
I know this is late buy wanted to say good luck! I just discovered pony very recently, and I'd be interested in seeing your work now that a year has gone by. Keep on the grind! 😊
The jolyne (anime) tattoo is actually really good. Jojo's bizzare adventures has a pretty unique art style so sometimes the faces look a little deformed.
Araki's drawing is usually very anatomically accurate, they just have very weird poses. It also has a very clean line work with a lot of hatching and lines are connected where it is needed which is not shown in that tattoo. So overall it is just not a very well drawn tattoo. The tattoo artist tried to avoid drawing hands by hiding one of the hand and choosing a this pose to draw only the back of the hand which is not the case of Araki's drawing where he is very bold at his pose and is not afraid to draw the weirdest angle. If they are really just following the manga as a reference, then they are just horrible at picking reference, there are many more interesting poses with accurate anatomy but they picked the worst one ever.
For the Mega Gengar tattoo, I think the artist should have used a different reference for it, because it doesn't look much like Mega Gengar, the mouth and the bottom half of Gengar's body needs work... please next time use a better reference picture, so it looks more like the character your trying to tattoo....
Cowgirl tattoo was pretty nice especially for how small it is but can’t help noticing the left eye (the girls right eye). It looks like it’s a fake eye or something. It kinda sucks because it is a pretty well done tat but that eye is really noticeable and once you see it, it can’t be unseen.
Pony, What should a person do if they can't find a local artist that they trust to do a good job? I spent 10 years trying to figure out what I wanted to get a tattoo of and I have been looking at local artists for almost a year now. I will occasionally find a tattoo by someone local that I like but when I look at the rest of their work it does not instill confidence. It sucks looking for an artist in Boise idaho
I thought the "cowgirl" was a witch because the triangular part at the top looked like the point of a witch's hat and her nose also made it seem like a "witch"
Guys like me, who can't find an apprenticeship, struggle to learn on our own. We watch your videos and wonder if we should even keep learning. Where is YOUR portfolio?
@@tiredvampire hey, at first I thought whoa whoa whoa, why so aggressive towards someone pointing out how to pronounce Cheshire! Being it a real place in UK, it really is pronounced cheh•shuh in British English. And the Cheshire Cat even though fictional was created by Lewis Carroll, an English writer. Hence the point Philip has made. I would like to hear your take on Worcestershire x
Damn....that toilet tattoo....yes please let it be pig skin/practice skin and not on anyone. I like the Cheshire cat the best....I agree bigger would have helped it but I'd wear it!
Also, whats wrong with being so embarrassed by someone that it makes you feel the need to improve? Alot of very talented people wouldnt be as talented if they didnt have someone pushing them to the edge. The gordon ramsay method bro, its still around because it works. If you cant handle the pressure of criticism and being made to do it over until you get it perfect then you do not deserve the privilege of developing the skill. Thats how you get these unpassionate generic people in any artist field. You gotta want that shit bro, somebody had something technically bad to say about your technically bad art? Get better. When i started painting graffiti i was roasted consistently for 10 years until i finally got nice.
Love the cowgirl, but it looks my a witch/Halloween tattoo with that pointed triangle on top of the hat. And the larger nose like Pony pointed out, doesn’t help.
I have owned and worked with horses for over three decades, and that horse is SO wrong!!! Even with the glare, I can tell that NONE of the parts of this horse are in proportion! You NEED to look at pictures of horses and study their anatomy before trying a tattoo like this. The legs are too short and blocky, the hindquarters are too small and not round enough, the neck is not attached to the horse’s body in the correct place AND it is too short and too thick (equestrians would call this neck too “crests”). Basically all of your anatomy is wrong. I’m not trying to be mean, but I see these beautiful animals up close and personal every day, and this tattoo just does not do justice to such a gorgeous creature. Sorry.
Oh jesus thats a pokemon? What is that gengar? Jesus dude i seriously thought it was an “original” design that ripped off gengar not an actual attempt. Bro and i havent watched pokemon in 15 years so if its not gengar and some other bullshit pokemon that was just created, yall can chill with the corrections.

could we get an all anime tattoo critique with Lefty?
That cowgirl, even though I know it's a cowgirl, I can't stop seeing a witch with the shape behind it.
I thought exactly the same, It really does look like a witch.
I saw a witch hat too!
Same! When he said cowgirl I was like what??? Then I seen it. Totally looks like a witches hat
I thought he making a joke saying cowgirl bc I thought it was a witch
I can’t help but see a moustache - I’m guessing it’s a shadow.

the jolene tattoo should have included the reference because the joho style is so distinct
I could be wrong but it looks like the toilet tattoo was on pig skin. I hope so. I love these videos. I learn so much.
It was on pig skin, I don't do realising stuff so I was just trying something new, they was my first and second trys at something like that

I thought the same thing, the unfinished lines as well probably just part of the manga references

I think the “leaves” in the anime girl tattoo were meant to be braids.
