- The main task of Western F-16 jet fighters will be the security of Ukraine's internal airspace. This was stated by the speaker of the command of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Yurii Ihnat. Saw 2 F16's flying over the Brecon beacons yesterday. Had to be Ukrainians, the UK only uses Typhoon and Lightning. Looked like they were practicing the Thatch weave. ✌🏻🇺🇦

In a war you need at minimum 100 due maintenance, schedule maintenance, number of sorties and aircraft losses. 12 to 24 need to be on alert to support troops and the rest to control the ski.

Agreed. Would be a perfect sales booster. But Grippen abilities are top secret while f16 capabilities are well known. No danger of Russia getting better tech then Europe if Ukraine falls. Also to consider, If the Ukrainians completely dominate the air Russia will resort to nukes. They can freely nuke their own territory or claim they had a accident if they really want to keep the Crimea from Ukraine. They need to create several protected structures for the fighter jets, hidden hangars for F-16s, in order to avoid Russian missile strikes. Since Ukrainians are so good in creating fake military vehicles and tanks, they should do the same with F-16s, to lure Russians into spending precious missiles against fake planes!

Our doddering leader's handlers finally approved F-16s from other countries. That's about as exciting as him not wetting his pants.
How about some Apache Helicopters to protect the tanks?
I'm sure the optics of Ukraine using European fighters instead of American fighters will encourage the American's to supply more fighters.
Don't forget the Eurofighter. A few years ago the UK had to reduced the number of Eurofighters it had because they were too old. So the UK will have some more Eurofighters at the end of the airframes life expectancy.
Anyway the F16 is still in production as well the Eurofighter, the Gripen, and the I believe the French ones are also still in production.

It will be interesting to see a duel between f16 and Russian aircrafts operated by Russian pilots ....few years back an Indian upgraded Mig 21 bison shot down one Pakistani F-16 in close maneuvers , as both pilots successfully evaded BVR missiles
The training should have started on Feb 25, 2022. America did a little pilot program (no pun) and they learned that Ukrainians are fast learners. Kind of an insult, really.

Amsterdam didn't do shit. It's the honorary capital of the Netherlands because otherwise they would be sad. The Hague is the seat of the Dutch government. So it would be "The Netherlands/The Hague decided etc. ." Fun fact, Amsterdam isn't even the capital of it's own provence, that would be Haarlem.
Sweden is getting close in value to what The Netherlands has sent in military aid.
Sweden also jumps to spending 2.1% of Gdp on defence when all purchases to replace equipment sent to Ukraine is factored in.
Ukraine will probably get Gripen from Sweden it's just that with 96 C/D Gripens in service and many in the workshops getting modernized and Gripen E production is in the early delivery stage which will free up Gripen C/D but also makes SAAB to bussy to finish the 14 Gripen C/D Hulls they have without affecting E production.
This is why Sweden wants to Wait until it's in NATO to Send the Gripen.
The Current opposition is just loosers who barley sent anything to Ukraine, military aid has increased dramatically since the election a year ago, this is the same opposition that was spouting Putin lies in March 2022 that a Swedish NATO membership would be destabilizing for European security.
Ukraine also needs a Fighter like the Gripen or a Modern F16 Block 70 like the US operates with Better Radars and ECM. The F16's currently promised lack the air to air punch needed to challenge the best Russian fighters for air superiority.

ATACM PROBLEM:
Atacms are BALLISTIC. Ballistic has proven unsuccessful on intermediate range in this war, due to the quantity of Russian Air Defense. Cruise missiles and air to ground/air missiles are more useful at this stage of the war.
Slowly, they haven't even learned English yet, and you should be destroying Russian rockets!

It's a big mistake to shorten training on complex weapon systems no matter experience with other systems.
The same was said and done with crews trained with Leopards, Bradleys and Challengers and ended up in a disaster on the battlefield in the real world.
There is no way the Ukrainian pilots could have been prepped and trained on these planes, this quickly. 😂

So stupid, standardization goes a lot further then increased spending. Why do people always think throwing money at the problem will automatically fix it.
One basic fact of economics the more product variety you got the more expensive each product will be therefore you get less products for the same price.
Product variety when it comes to defense does not add anything all it does is waste giant amount of money. I prefer efficiency over stupidity. I wish the public and the politicians understood basic economics.
If we had a EU single army we could do orders of thousands of tanks that we could negotiate with the manufacturer to get 50% off per unit cost as the contract is a lot larger and the development cost gets spread out over more units. This way we get more tanks for less money and that can either be used for more military modernization or spending on other areas of the economy. Burning peoples tax money just for the sake of burning money is something I am completely against.
There will not be that large increase in production if you keep this inefficent system, I prefer us europeans using our full industrial production instead of a fraction of it and just burn more money in to it. The EU alone has 8500 tanks as a example we could at the begining of the 2022 invasion send around 2000 tanks without a problem but since we are separated it is a lot harder to send large number of equipment. Since smaller nations can not send as much as larger nations can do without having a large loss in capability. One tank of 100 tanks is a lot more valuable then 1 tank out of 8500 tanks. Even with 2500 tanks send of our 8500 tanks is a acceptable loss in capability since we still would keep 6000 tanks more then enough to deter russia.
It would also simplify the negotiation process where ukraine only need to negotiate with one nation instead of 27 nations meaning weapons gets there faster and in volume. There is not a millitary shortage when it comes to equipment but a structural problem. Like the russian millitary has its corruption problems that makes them in to a clown army, we europeans has a lighter problem but still a problem and that is our nationalism. It prevents us to mobilize on the EU scale to really outproduce russia when it comes to weapons since our 27 different small production lines can not produce the same amount as a single large production line.
I hope we get our act together and support ukraine more so it wins. But people in the EU is unwilling to adapt to the extent needed for us to really change the balance in this war in ukraines favor.
I totally agree. Sending a variety of tanks with all the needed infrastructure is totally stupid, compared to just sending all the Leopards we already have all over Europe, with all the infrastructure already in place, rather than *selling* tanks from US, UK and France.
The same for fighter jets. Nobody is mentioning that Ukraine will get those "famous" F-16s a year from now. And how much it will cost. The urgent need is more like better air defense systems, that can be delivered almost immediately, once our politicians get their thumbs out of their behinds. 😴
