I love how Cash is man enough to admit that he’s in nearly constant pain as well as the fact that he’s not brave. Dude was a real man’s man.

He had a rather traumatic childhood I think. His brother died and he seemed to be the favoured son and was going to be a preacher so I think John felt somewhat obligated to promote God since his brother was not around to do it.

@@EQOAnostalgia That’s not what I meant at all. I mean I can’t think of anyone who can BE another Johnny Cash. Sure, addiction and depression is common and it will probably be common for a long time. I still think his personality and his way on reflecting back and talking about his problems are his own words. I feel I can relate to him and his music more than anything else I am aware of.

You didn't actually compliment johnny cash, you just judged Cash to be a better Christian than most. That isn't a compliment. It's a judgement. eg. _Wow. you are much better looking than your ugly mother._ If someone said this to you, you'd know this isn't a compliment...

Him wearing black for all those who were wronged and didn't know anything but the wrong way in life is the most christian thing on this planet. He felt their pain spiritually while acknowledging his own vices and made a point to share it. That's one of the many reasons why I loved Johnny Cash since I was a kid. He was the first Christian artist to not make his religion everything like Chris Timlin and still relate to people, way before Under Oath and As Cities Burn did it.

Being from Rison Arkansas (the town right down the road of Johnny Cash's birthplace of Kingsland) I hear a lot of stories from when he would visit family in the 70s. Risons mayor was his bodyguard a time and he has stories about Johnny. It feels weird when I think about walking the streets he did and going on the football field where he sang. He was born in Kingsland and raised in Dyess, but he was close to Rison too. And Arkansas will always proudly display his footprints.
