Thanks for the videos, just found your channel yesterday while researching the fimi mini 3 as I want to get one and wanted to see who has tested cold weather. Hope you are thawed out now ;-) I don't think whatever they do is going to work. The manual states the temperature range of this drone is 0 to 40° c. Be nice if they make it the same as the DJI mini 4 pro which is -10 to 40° c. Which I was able to fly okay at -18c last year with no issues.
Little update: After the new camera firmware v1013B, i flew this morning at 7.00 am and at +5 degrees and .... everything's still perfect. The flight last 15 minutes and no out of focus, perfect gimbal movement . I wrote to fimi support to know about the issue of the app that keeps asking me to update the camera firmware despite I already perfectly installed. Their reply:" We're still trying to locate and address this issue." So, maybe, they're going to solve it in the future. In the meanwhile, my drone is perfect.

It is a hardware problem, no chance to improve with future firmware update. In the same day at 14 degree i have flown my Dji Mini 2 and Dji Mini 3 withouth problems, the pictures and video perfect!
Hello GM. I have not tested the update yet. But last week, I made a test disabling HDR, and the videos are a lot better, excellent focus. We are in the middle of summer over here, the videos were still out of focus even on a sunny day, until I made this change. Hope it helps. Happy Holidays!
In my search to find my perfect drone. I needed to find waypoints with POI. Thought I had found it with the Fimi mini 3, but two reviewers (you) have found that videos and photos are out of focus in cold weather, and horizons are not level. This only occurs in cold weather. What are the chances that these types of errors can be solved with firmware updates, and do you think Fimi will actually do it?
I bought the fimi mini 3 se after watching your video Everything is good but I can't put gimbal guard back it's really hard can I keep it like that without gimble guard
If you are not banging it about.. you don't need the guard on. I have to flip the craft on its back witht he arms out and gently manipulate it back on... Yes.. worst design ever.
We have to remember that the Fimi Mini 3 SE has a completely different gimbal and, being simpler than the Fimi 3, is absolutely possible that it could work better.
Ok guys: two updates for the Fimi mini 3 (no SE). The issue of continually asking for an update of the camera firmware, can be solved switching on the radio before and the drone after it. In my case it worked 100% and all 3 firmwares (FC, Vision and Camera version 1013b) are installed correctly. I live in Italy but today we are at 6 C degrees and usually my Fimi was out of focus. I tried the camera right now and, in my case, the video is totally sharp, even at 6 C. No weird gimbal behaviour, everything is perfect. Even inside my home, without GPS, the update to the FC is perfect. I flew with the optical flow and the drone is rock steady. Please, give us some report, because I can't go below 6 degrees here in the centre of Italy but remember that I had issues of focus before the update at this temperature.
Someone also suggested to turn HDR off! I am not usually going to fly in -18C but would like to fly in -10C. I will try again ... it's -6C today... but with Christmas and all... I doubt I will get up in the next few days.

@@GorillamansGarage I think that's because of the complexity of all the system gimbal+lens+Cmos. But I have to say: within a range from 0 to 10 degrees, it seems that the focus improved a little bit.

Hi I think the update will not solve the problem which seems mechanical (physical) to me, the FIMI mini 3 had to be calibrated at room temperature (around 20 degrees Celsius) The components of the camera are subject to deformation (expansion) due to temperature changes. Calibrated at room temperature, the focus is modified when the temperature is far from the nominal. I noticed a difference after trying this. Before takeoff, I preheat the camera by launching Recording (video on) for 2 or 3 minutes (to be seen depending on the temperature). FYI, the drone does not tolerate a certain waiting time (between 5 and 8 minutes, or more again depending on the ambient temperature), in which case, it cuts the recording and asks to wait for the drone to cool down. By letting this happen, we know the limit. It remains to evaluate an adequate preheating time so that the camera assembly reaches nominal temperature (the temperature will be more or less maintained in flight filming. The focus apparently is better, that's my impression.
I think the lenses are of very good quality. Apart from the focus problem, the image is pretty good (although compressed for image weight reasons). A plastic lens would not have this quality of definition, the image would be milky. Or else, it would be a design defect (polishing of the glass) which I doubt. We are on Sony, and it is still a reference. Even if we are not on the high end, it must still hold up. On the other hand, the assembly of the camera must be sensitive to thermal deformation, and if the distance of the elements is modified (distance between the lenses), it modifies the focal length, therefore the focus. And if we look closely, there are other points that are not the best. Like the centering of the lens, the machining of the edge of the optics. We are not on a high precision product. Afterwards, it's hard to get something excellent at this price. I'm sure that at double the price and therefore equivalent to other quality drones, this drone could be very efficient. The fact remains that with a fixed focal length (f1/7) and extreme temperature differences of 40, 50, or even 60 degrees (+40 • to -20 •) we can only expect mechanical fluctuations. And image rendering cannot be optimal outside the nominal temperature range. Personally, I note this failing point, while I don't have extreme conditions. Current temperatures here are around 10 degrees Celsius. And the image is already affected. -10 degrees Celsius seems inevitably problematic to me. Already for the human body! We may be asking too much of these little beasts. There may also be a need to know the drone better to partially overcome these problems. - 10 degrés Celsius me semble inévitablement problématique .

At the Moment over 10 C degrees. With the new camera firmware update could have improved it's performance. Yesterday I tried at 6 degrees and seemed to be fine. We are waiting for further evidences.
A question: Why do you record at 2.7k@30, since FM3 is capable of 4K@60 ? And why is this video at 1080p@30? You like playing with resolutions before New Year :D
Because 98% of RUclips viewers either watch on their phones, a tablet or a laptop. Some might use a desktop and even fewer might do most on a TV. I do not fly to sell video footage. I test products and see how they develop over time. On my laptop, a 1080p video looks the same as a 2.7k and a 4k video. Filming in 4k@60 is a waste of time for me and even 4k is a waste of processing power. I settle on 2.7 because of my shots (segments I want to highlight) are off center a bit.. I can crop and adjust a little.

@@bpatrick6744 : I appreciate you dedication to this issue. I do agree that Fimi has never been a "precision" instrument. The housing of the lens could be an issue... but... In the Fimi models that do not have "Stacked sensors" this issue is not apparent. The X8 Mini V2 and X8SE 2022 do not have the cold issues... it is an Enigma... ruclips.net/video/DAqLnDD8a6o/видео.html
Have been thinking of buying a Mini 3 all week to take with me on a skiing trip but wow these drones really don't like the cold. From your experience what temperature does the focus and horizon issues become apparent? Coldest it will probably get in Austia will be about -10C
In my tests.. about 12C. Below that and its a crap shoot.. Its not bad.. no jello or flight issues .. just a little out of focus if you look close. It is not bad for the first 2 minutes around 5-11C but below -6C... it gets bad. A DJI Mini 4k would be better and I hat to say it.. but also a Potensic Atom 3x (but it has limited features).
@@GorillamansGarage Thanks for the quick reply its very much appreciated! :) Yes the DJI mini 4k seems to be the next go to. Is this same experience apparent on the x8 mini v2?
@@JackVincent : No...ruclips.net/video/DAqLnDD8a6o/видео.htmlsi=LXg8pZ8iX2Gr32XE
@@GorillamansGarage You have a video for everything! Thank you for the help. Someone is selling an x8 mini v2 near me so might be worth getting that instead for the right price :)
@@GorillamansGarage Thanks to your videos I am now a proud owner of a Mini V2 and just uploaded my first video with it :)
What is the "Vision" update to you?
If , I only knew!
I'd like to know if some of you tried the drone with the new firmware at temperatures between 0 and 15 degrees. Did you noticed any improvement? At -19 I think we risk just to brake the drone.
It usually takes 3-4 minutes before the cold affects the drone. Look at the imagery in the first 1 minute.
Hi, "Not suitable for flight" Is that because of temperature?
Ok I see now, red to red, I am kinda new at this thank you
What temp. does it become suitable?
At the Moment over 10 C degrees. With the new camera firmware update could have improved it's performance. Yesterday I tried at 6 degrees and seemed to be fine. We are waiting for further evidences.
I'd say it definitely still has issues below 0C.
Warning: I tried to update....FC ok, Vision ok, Camera firmware keeps asking to update even I have already updated it. any solution? I'm desperate!
Re install the App.
@@GorillamansGarage already done two times and nothing. The incredible thing is that in the app I read "Camera firmware 1013b" but aside I read "update". In your opinion: I updated successfully or not yet? I tried the drone and the camera is ok, I can record and shoot photos and videos.
For me same problem.
@@edmondomazzantini : There will always be an "update" button on the firmware version page.. but if you click it.. nothing should happen. Or does the update show up as soon as you start the App.
@@GorillamansGarage when I start the app, everytime It suggest me to update the camera firmware but ...I have an "update"! Last two times I restarted the drone and the app, it didn't ask me and the firmware were 1013b. The third time I tried, it happened again. Now I think that is a bug in the app and that the firmware was definitely installed.
Yeah, just turned mine on and got the firmware update message, my first one as I've not had it long...... been stuck on 4% for over an hour now - I'm going to be extremely pissed if it's bricked thanks to their crap update that I didn't want anyway.....
These updates took forever on mine.. I had to reset the RC beeper twice. But eventually it worked.
@GorillamansGarage Got it done eventually after having to reset everything when stuck at 4%..... like you say, it takes an age, but thankfully everything seems fine. Can't fly as it's raining, but maybe tomorrow.....
What can be the problem that such a big manufaccturer can not solve -- but all the others can.
I think that nobody can solve this problem when it's -19 C. simply.....we don't have to fly in those conditions. I'd like to remember that, in the specifications, the suggested temperature of exercise would be 0 to 40 degrees.
@@edmondomazzantini But the same happens at +5-10 C...
@@csabamagyar3244 ok, so we hope in this firmware update.
@@csabamagyar3244 we hope in the new firmware indeed.
That is the 64M$ question.
As soon as the winter came it disappointed me, although it has amazing features for price but that camera is soo Annoying i sold it and got dji mini 3 pro official refurbished.
If only not for the winter but camera is 50% of the drone. And its happening already at 15°C
Exactly... and worse yet... Fimi knows about it and will probably dump the "Stacked" sensors in new drones.
Sorry.. I will not be getting the Neo. To get the kit that is worth flying is very expensive. Other than that it is but a selfie camera. The "Flip" is also an Odd bird... We are all waiting for the "Dyson" edition!
