As an educator, the reading problem falls onto their parents mainly! If they aren’t being told to read at home or aren’t valuing it at home they won’t learn it at school because they know they can skate by without knowing how to read.
On one hand I agree. However, my love for reading started at home (around 4 is when I was addicted) but it was continued through school. My parents just bought the books I wanted, they didn’t make me read. My teachers were awesome! Book reports were not boring because we did fun projects that correlated with the book. I don’t blame teachers, but I do partly blame the federal and state education system. They took out everything from book reports to real essays. I’m in Texas from the west coast and Texas lies to the community and imposes tests that cause teachers to only teach kids to pass the test. Why? Just for funding. And the teachers are soooo passionate here. They are upset and overworked. But every one of them who really wanted to teach for good reason hates that they can’t teach the kids in the ways they know works. 27+ kids in some classes. It takes both. Kids spend (should if they go to bed) more awake hours in school. That is why we need unity, not pushing responsibilities off on others. I hate when parents say, “When they are with you they are your responsibility.” However, I don’t like that teachers can’t get the respect they deserve and that eventually trickles over to their mental state and passion.
This is compounded by the No Child Left Behind act that was passed in the states, which assures that children will pass each grade to stay with their peers even if their grades dont reflect them actually learning anything. So its their parents not enforcing it and the school system not caring whether or not they actually do
The Chuckle Sandwich podcast just got me through a 1,500 mile drive and I think I might've died of boredom without you guys. Not that I had much choice, because my cats would start crying any time they stopped hearing your voices. So thank you from all of us lol

As a Pennsylvania listener, I will say two things. 1. The accent you guys listened to was specifically a heavy Pittsburgh accent (from a web series called Pittsburgh Dad) - and yes it can get definitely that fucking stupid. Source: "neurosoicy" person who often overly enunciates and had been living in and directly around Pittsburgh (at most 20 min drive) all 24 years of their life. 2. Getting out as fast as reasonably possible has been main goal since like age 9. And hey, if all goes right that should be by the end of this summer, so y'know it's looking up. Anyways, love yinz and the pod as always - one of my favorite pieces of content to consume every week.
As a kid, I thought the groundhog seeing his shadow meant spring was coming because we see shadows when it is sunny. But now I know the shadow scares the groundhog into hiding and if it is hiding then that means a longer winter.
Even to this day, it warms my heart that after Schlatt basically made Ted's career, he still has him on the podcast despite everything Ted has done to him and others. ALSO, yinz is just a Pittsburgh thing, not all of Pennsylvania. We do not claim Pittsburgh, we are not a monolith.
Yinz is only common in and around Pittsburgh. Cheesesteaks are a Philly thing. Ted and Schlatt just pissed off every steel worker and Eagles fan in PA...this might be the time they finally meet their match
