The problem is that he has awful basketball IQ and feel for the game. He's been playing pickup basketball in a non pickup setting his whole career and knows no other method.

UW-Oshkosh in WI is a football national juggernaut that produces many D1 players & St. Thomas in Minneapolis produces many D1 players in soccer, football, and basketball. I’ve hooped with D3 guys too and they are on another level than just regular varsity players-they usually were the best player in their school or conference but just not good enough for D1/too lazy for D2. I always put respect on someone’s game when they played D3 sports, but you have to consider the fact I was an average JV player hahaha

How are they always down by at least 30? Oh right, Julian has a green light and is shooting like 9% from the field. Nobody is falling for that sonic the hedgehog crossover, stop it.
Let’s get this straight the main reason why he struggles is literally basketball IQ he has great movement, but doesn’t know how to use that movement to get to good spots to make great place with his skill set. He could be such a great player, but he literally takes the hardest shots possible And doesn’t even give himself an opportunity to build some rhythm trying to get some easy midrange, pull-ups, and floaters or lay ups and build out his range. I think that’s his biggest issue otherwise in terms of his skills he moves well he just needs to shoot better as well. He’s had a lot of shot opportunities off of step backs that he could’ve definitely made still really hard shots to take though.
The facts is he could easily make those 3 pointers he's missing smh. I think the should work on his three point game because if he makes those shots it could be lethal! he obviously lacks the size to drive to the hoop so he should hone in on those long shot opportunities but actually be able to capitalize on them

When it comes to the offence I'm sorted because if he tries the steal and misses he's probably going to fall which gives me a free layup. If he decides to drop off and give me space then I'm going to shoot it and (unlike him) I can actually hit it (or I can use the space to gather speed and blow through him on a drive) and if he decides to get up close and play close, on-ball defence then I'll just drive through him because I'm bigger and stronger and it'll be an easy finish at the rim. My point is that Julian Newman is so abysmal at every aspect of basketball on both ends of the court that even somebody who hoops purely for fun could beat him.
