      The bandits would be ok if they have any kind of armor and slightly hurt if they were in a t-shirt and shorts. Now if she was shooting a 15th century long bow she might get one shot off because of the draw weight (50kg to 70 kg). An English Longbow-man could do the same thing she did at a target at 100 meters and the arrow would go through the target like a hot knife threw butter even if it had chain mail armor and gambits and armor

    • @paavobergmann4920
      @paavobergmann4920 Год назад +72

      @@kraigthorne 30lbs with target arrows is plenty deadly, Sudhues got penetration depth of 20-36cm on pig carcasses at 18m distance, and nearly every body hit damaged important organs and had lethal potential. And I wouldn´t overestimate the english longbow. It was heavy because it shot heavy arrows, and because the design was cheap and mass-producable rather than mechanically efficient (it isn´t), and archers were supposed to shoot 12 arrows a minute. Also, english longbows were more of an area effect weapon. Yes, a skilled archer could hit a point target, but 100yards would be a stretch (very high arc and minute margin of error at that range, and windshear becomes an issue with flight times of several seconds. Trust me.), and that wasn´t his primary battlefield role. It was more important to get good target saturation at 30-200yards with your unit, which is hard enough. Comparing the two is like comparing an assault carbine with a single katyusha launcher. And yes, longbow arrows pierce mail, and most gambesons, but almost never plate, only with much luck the shoddiest, cheapest plate at a weak point. Maybe. On a good day. But I would expect these light arrows from a 30lbs bow to still hurt plenty through mail. Mail is basically a neat arrangement of holes. And yes, I have some basic idea, I´ve shot a 70lbs wooden longbow and a 40lbs glasfiber recurve for 15 years, at various targets. Draw weight does NOT correlate linearly with Oomphicity.

      My thoughts exactly. I watched this vid couple years back, went to the range, and tried to nock with my hand "upside down" like her. Just once, really slowly. What a desaster, it felt totally weird, I think you´d need to train a lot to get the feel for it.

      @tomherr5684 Год назад +9

      Yea, I’m a pretty decent archer myself and honestly I have no idea. Are the arrows kinda already “set up” a little bit back there or does she twist it with her fingers quick with some sort of indicator near the rear? (Maybe both?). I’m trying to figure it out but….. I mean, I’m not a very “serious” archer, I just enjoy it but it would be cool to (even just know!) ya know? Lol It is fun to watch though

    • @paavobergmann4920
      @paavobergmann4920 Год назад +18

      @@tomherr5684 I think she grabs the arrow really at the end of the nock, so she can feel how the nock runs with the tip of her thumb while drawing it out of te quiver. And then she nocks "upside down" from the face-side of the bow in one fluid motion, which is possible (but not quite as easy as she makes it look) if you nock and draw with your thumb pointing down.
      There are plastic arrow nocks sold as "hunting nocks" that have a little indicator ridge that you can line up with your leading fledge , so you can orient your arrow while focussing on the target, so I think she has probably something like that. Or you just put 4 narrow feathers on your arrow and don´t care for close to mid-range shooting.

You see stuff like this and the one dude who mixes a circus routine's worth of acrobatics in, but people who've actually used a bow know that you aren't doing that stuff with a bow that has a 'real world capable' draw weight (that is, sufficient for hunting deer). ESPECIALLY when you are using a traditional style bow as opposed to a modern compound one. Although I think a modern compound bow would also have some different issues when ti comes to trying to run at speed.

      I'm glad our Russian friends enjoy our culture with The Witcher!
      Greetings from America!
      May we have Peace and love between the people of our great nations... But FUCK our governments.
      Please, do NOT let Putin trick you into going to war against your brothers and cousins in Ukraine. We all have only ONE life to live, do NOT spend it killing or being killed or maimed to satisfy the ego and narcissism of one man. Putin will NEVER be compared to Peter the Great, let him fight his OWN war and EARN his OWN "glory".
      We just got rid of our own malignant narcissist CRIMINAL in Donald Trump, though many fools remain in his MAGAt maggot cult.
      Some things we Americans LOVE from Russia:
      Your literature, is, in our opinion, the greatest literature in the world... Dostoyevsky, Tolstoy, Nabakov, Gogol, Pasternak, Solzhenitsyn, Pushkin, Chekhov, Stanislavsky... THESE are the writers of my passionate youth, lol, the writers that opened my eyes and broke my heart.
      Your music, from Tchaikovsky to Pussy Riot and Gogol Bordello...
      Your Bolshoi Ballet
      Your vodka! (Although some would say SOME Polish vodka is nearly as good)
      The beauty of your Revolution, the IDEALISM with which it began, was noble and righteous.
      Although we recognize that the typical human traits of greed and corruption ruined dream of socialists and led to the downfall of the Party and the rise of the oligarchs and autocrats.
      (We are currently experiencing exactly the same thing here in America).
      The LEGENDARY resilience of your people, and your soldiers is astonishing. The sacrifices your people made, first to defeat Hitler, at Stalingrad and Leningrad, then the suffering of the Russian people at the hand of Stalin, is unimaginable and UNSPEAKABLE, and still you stand.
      We, the American people, have nothing but LOVE for the people of Russia, but nothing but contempt for Putin, his fake elections, his authoritarian rule, his violence towards protesters, his jailing and assassination of critics and rivals, his thievery and ties to organized crime and the gangster oligarchs that rule like medieval despots.
      We hate Putin like we hated Trump. Everyone hates corruption and dictatorships. We hope and pray that the great Russian people will throw off the chains of oppression and stage another revolution, and we stand by to help you.
      We love and welcome the Russian people, but we hate and despise dirty oligarchs and dictators and billionaires of every nation. They use fascism to rule the people.. they are the natural enemies of free people, free speech, free press, and true democracy.
      Right now in America we have lots of our own problems, the billionaires and corporations are destroying our democracy, dividing our society, and killing our planet. They have corrupted every branch of our government, even our Supreme Court, and one ENTIRE PARTY of our pathetic two-party system, which is really only one party, the party of corporate power and the rule of billionaires and "dark money donors". They use an increasingly militarized police force against us that kills over 1200 Americans ever year and the largest most insidious prison-industrial complex in the world, where we imprison a higher percentage of our people than any country in the world. We also have the highest total number of prisoners in the world, more than Russia, China, Saudi Arabia and Iran COMBINED... "Land of the Free" MY ASS, along with domestic spying and mass surveillance.
      MAY WE BOTH COUNTRIES THROW OFF THE CHAINS OF TYRANNY AND LIVE AS FREE AND EQUAL HUMAN BEINGS AT PEACE WITH THE WORLD AND HAVING LOVE AND COMPASSION AND GOOD WILL TOWARDS ALL MEN.
      NOSTROVYA!

    You are absolutely right. At our training very serious physical training. Without this it is impossible to shoot quickly. Iza is easily controlled with a 45 # bow. In the video, a training bow 27 pounds. For shooting accuracy and long distance using a different technique. This technique is not historical, but is designed by me for close combat. That's why she is called "a dagger technique."

      They would fire an arrow every six seconds. The bow she using is about 25-30 pounds at a guess. While a medieval war archer would be using 125/155 pound draw weight. Folks then wore armour so her bow would do nothing back then. That being said still very impressive, I think she must be useing speed nocks, certainly a low draw weight

Urban kids every day learning a trade by doing the simple, hard, physical work. Upper class: combat training and etiquette.
