Anybody with a shred of common sense would have easily picked up on this listening to the speech. Even the NFL quickly distanced themselves soon after Butkers speech.

No one should be critical of women who choose to be stay at home moms. However, it's just sexist for any man to tell women that their only legitimate role is to care for their husbands and children and that they need to have both a husband and children to be truly a woman. Even at this very conservative school there are women who have aspirations beyond being a housewife. Who does he think he is to tell them what their role must be and what it cannot be!

Tbf, I agree with the woman in the middle. I get the backlash he’s getting, but it’s also taken out of context. He’s preaching to a Catholic school audience, who aligns with his belief and faith. If he were to speak at a non-religious school, I think what the woman on the left is saying makes more sense (the one who disagrees).
It’s a conservative school but they’re supposed to be more Christ-like. Some students were actually shocked that he brought up pride month. They were taught to show compassion towards others, not hate. Some of what he said could’ve been omitted from the speech. It’s a liberal arts school. Not everyone who goes there is a hardcore Catholic who shares most of his views. Should’ve just encouraged the graduates to strive to be their best self while being good Catholic ambassadors. I as a women who had a college education and put it aside to take care of my twins who’s dad didn’t help and I went from working and having money to struggling am so glad and blessed I spent my time on my twins they are great and doing perfect in school and athletics. It takes sacrifices to raise well adjusted adults.

His message clearly was also not meant for some of the graduates and other conservative Christians present at the graduation. Nor for the Sisters of Mount St. Scholastica (the nuns affiliated with Benedictine College).
As a college educated woman I chose not to have children because I knew I would rarely be home to raise them. Children can’t raise themselves. Children do need their mothers especially in those critical bonding years.

The worst part of this video is how close, yet so far the two women on the right were about understanding the other woman's take. It is a woman's choice to either be a homemaker or a career woman. But the thing is, they're not mutually exclusive life paths and no reasonable person is taking thay choice away from women. The problem is, giving a speech to a group of women who clearly chose to invest in their careers and dismissing their years of work to get to that point. Its completely demeaning. Arguably it is Butker who is taking that choice away by insinuating that one life path is a "lie" and telling women that their real life starts at being a wife and mother.

Respect the choice to dedicate yourself to a relationship or marriage, and your family. Because it's truly an astonishing and selfless act to raise a family and the lion's share of that work is feminine (which is synonymous with strength and patience, endurance and grace) Thank you to all the women, who have given us life, and been mothers, and chosen to raise us even though it is the job of a lifetime, often thankless, often sacrificing what lives you may have lived, or stickers of achievements you've aspired to obtain. We lived on one salary in our home. I left my career as a paralegal to raise my kids. Don’t regret living paycheck to paycheck for years. However that was the right choice for me that made me happy. My sister left her career as a nurse made the same choice and was miserable and suffered from depression and stress of being a stay at home mom so bad she was losing her hair. No one should be that miserable. For this guy to imply there is only one correct choice is ignorant. We need more women in politics. I can congratulate you for either/both of being at Fox for 24 years or staying at home with your kids. I am not sure I understand the reaction of one of the anchors. And why does the one who doesn't look down on the sentiment feel like she has be defensive. Why is the former so angry. I am glad she accomplished her goal of being there as long as she has. She deserves all the accolades and awards she receives. But why can't she celebrate the traditional stay at home mom. Again, isn't that what diversity means, that we all figure out our individual calling and celebrate it to the max. Why would we look down at another's life choice, or put down the sentiments of others. This is not a right or wrong. You have a kicker who is on the road a lot. He is counting on wife being there for the kids because he often will not be. Has it changed so much that the kids we have aren't the most important thing in our lives. Some people will do the balancing act, and that too is an accomplishment. But there is absolutely nothing wrong with choosing, and being able to be a full time stay at home mom.
