Jo wrote a short book about her travels and how she met Michael.

We don't often check our our messages on RUclips, if you want to contact us please either comment on a video or email us using the address listed above. We love hearing from everyone.
Hope George’s paw gets better, we love watching his Vlogs with his carers. He is very well organised and has his family trained appropriately, well done George👍
He's done pretty well for himself! And thankfully it's healed up nicely. M
I loved the ponies, the little black one was so cute. Thanks as always for a great video.
Hi Mike and Jo. I have two, go anywhere in any weather(!) spaniels, who have suffered burns due to snow and ice. Here's a good tip to prevent it occurring in the future, 'Musher's Secret' balm (you can buy it from Amazon). It's great stuff, I put in on my dogs' paws, including in between each pad, and it prevents the burn. It can also be used in the summertime too to protect them....and I have to say I've pinched a bit of it for dry skin on my hands. By the way, re: Joe Cocker, the year you refer to on ToTPs would be 1968, as that programme was first aired in 1964. Bye for now, from Yvonne
Well '68 does make a lot more sense than '58, my brain was just going off on its own tangent about just how old was Joe Cocker anyway? I'll look at getting some Musher's Secret, thanks! M
Gorgeous scenery today! Those sandstone walls with the trailing vines are so perfect that they look like a Disney set! Interesting different ways of moving water around the locks...some of them are really beautiful....and oh, those gorgeous lock cottages!!! Poor George...hope his foot heals quickly. Safe cruising!
It's a lovely area, that's for sure! Thankfully his paw has healed up well! M
There are Canine Boots with a rubber sole which are quite good, we have never been successful in getting our dogs to wear them. It would be really great if we could get the dogs to wear them, as it would protect their feet from the ice and salt.
We got George to wear one on a poorly paw for the better part of an hour before he chewed it off! He really doesn't seem to like those things at all. M
Hey guys. First I hope George is better, it's amazing how hardy our babies are. Anyway I really look forward to your videos, probably more than the rest of the others I watch,as your history commentsare what makes it . I have been over here for 26_7 years now, and as I am disabled I miss the old country. But through you I get to see what I to be honest didn't know that I really missed. I also like to watch the interaction between you to and George, that is one content puppy. And so well behaved.!!!!! Well thanks again guys,. really look forward to your next video.
Thanks! We're glad to show you a bit of the old country. Yeah George's paw has more or less fixed itself up, though he wasn't keen on so much time indoors! M
I wish I had half the energy George has .. He's always on the run :-):-):-)
We don’t know where he gets it. There’s no obvious room for a nuclear reactor! M
Great vlog we always enjoy the bits of history. Lovely stretch of canal. Hope George is fully recovered now. Thanks Guys.
He's doing much better, thanks! M
Michael, you are just dreaming of being a Winter Troglodyte, all snuggled up to the fireplace and looking out at winter. ha ha
Wishing you a splendiferous Anniversary, full of harmony, peace and warm fingers :-)
wonderful vlog, perfect balance for me, beautiful views, cheerfulness and humour, a smattering of facts,George and other animals all tied together with you. Hope paw has mended, maybe more snuggles on the bed will speed the process :-) peace, health and happiness.
Thank you! His paw has healed up, though now he's back to rambunctious again so hopefully he doesn't injure it once more! M
While, I understand it is cold, it still seems like ideal causing as it is so peaceful. You may be right, cruising in the off season has its advantages.
We love cruising in the off season and having the canals all to ourselves ... but yes, it can be very cold! M
Use duck tape on top of the boots, or make a sock from vetwrap with duck tape on top.
Nappy rash type cream is the veterinary standby for minor cuts and grazes.
We've got some surgical tape that works well, but isn't quite as hair-sticky as duct tape. Luckily it's healed up pretty well! M
Very nice video. Great shots from the tow path as well as the boat. Hope you both stay warm and happy. Yea George and all hail Bane.
All hail! M
Just found out about Jo's book, and downloaded immediately - such a nice background story, which lets us all know that little bit extra about you - thanks for sharing the details - enjoyed the narrative in the book very much.
Thanks for reading it! I keep meaning to turn my own blog from the year we met into a book, but it'd be about 1300 pages. M
Horses and Mr George going to make this video have more views! Michael Getting the look of death and waiting to see how Jo punishes him will make next vid a hit also
I'm not sure she ever gets the punishments on tape, or would let them see the light of the edit... see this way she gets to be the heroine, not the villain! M
@@MinimalList we see
Another enjoyable video. You guys have great chemistry ... and George, LoL !
Happy anniversary - cheers !
Thanks! Yeah, we got lucky meeting each other, and then finding the cutest dog in existence! M
I sooo like your vlogs... George is a star, lovely that he's a rescue dog, he suits this life... Finally I enjoy the history 'bits' lots... Thank you
I've been out of the loop for a while but great to see you three still doing it. Keep on keeping on!
We will! Glad to have you back in the loop! Hope all is ok!
Great vlog, as per usual. Winter narrow-boating looks so much more serene; I'm surprised that so many people moor their boats and miss the canals at their quietest, during the winter months.
Well, perhaps they're as bad as you at stoking the fire! ;)
Hope George's foot is on the mend. Happy travels. x
We have got pretty good at keeping the fire warm! Also happy that more people don’t come out! We love having the canals to ourselves!
Thank you for your post , Happy 3rd Anniversary.
Thanks! M
My old dog used to get a sore foot like George in the wet, horrible weather and the vet said make sure to clean them when she had been out, just in and old ice cream tub with some warm water with a bit of dettol in, I just wagged her foot in the water for a few seconds and all the grit, crap came off a treat, hope it helps poor george
Good idea, though I shall have to commandeer an ice cream first! M
ALL the best!
It is Kinver, it probably was a dinosaur. Kidderminster is locally known as carpet town. Britons Carpets have adorned some of the most palatial royal palaces from Europe to the middle and far east. RIP British Manufacturing. Another lovely vlog.
I wonder just how many of those carpets are left, round the world. Thanks for watching. M
Wilton and Axminster are type of carpet weave. The wool of the Hardwick sheep was use for hard wearing carpets. There must be a carpet museum somewhere, in Kidderminster!
museumofcarpet.org/
Kilmarnock was another big carpet town,
Lots on Wikipedia about carpets, the oldest one in existance is 5th Century BC: The Pazyryk Carpet,
Great video 👍🏻
Thanks! M
Looks a great area for cruising, great vlog.
Thanks! M
With regard to poor old George and his Paw. In a previous life I spent most of my time working with dogs. Not exactly sure what is wrong with the law but whenever I had a problem with a dogs paw, usually soft pads as a result of cold wet weather etc , we used to paint the pad with something called Blue violet.... like a purple ink, which hardened the pad up.
Gentian Violet, perhaps? Stains like the dickens? M
17:03 made me smile :-) and Happy Anniversary.
Heh, thanks! M
Great vlog loved all the historical information keep up the good work. 😀
Thanks! M
At 09:53 that picture would make a wonderful panting or watercolor.
Not a bad scene, is it? M
You can get paw wax for dogs to protect them. We use it on our dog and it works a treat
Good to know. We've got some balm to help them, but hadn't seen the wax. M
I love your channel. Always good fun.
Thanks! M
Lovely vlog
Thanks! M
Yay! You're in the correct ears :-) If only they'd let me hit "like" multiple times.
Took a bit of figuring out how to swap them properly in a clip. Although now we know about the issue we're trying to record it right in the first place! M
the big problem for paws is not ice, but salt. it dries everything to a crisp. worse still, dogs will lick their paws clean and may end up poisoning themselves.
Yeah, luckily there's not as much salt about this year... knock wood the winter's been very mild so far. M
Another great vlog. And what a change in the weather! Glad to see your enthusiasm back after the stresses of Droitwich & the Severn. Did you do the carpet museum when you were in Kidderminster? There used to be literally dozens of carpet manufacturers there...
I probably should have gone to the carpet museum... I have a lifelong dislike of carpets, but I shouldn't let that stop me visiting esoterica. M
I had to pause the vid and go turn on the air/con. A bit warm here in Florida.
Poor you! 😂
Troglodyte! That made my ears prick up. Back in he 70/80's we Volunteer Firemen in New Zealand were affectionately?? referred to as "Trogs" by our professional counterparts
Spent a lot of time in caves back then? Or walking on knuckles? ;-) M
There was not a lot of love lost between the 2 branches of the service, yet they still thought us good enough to be on first call to the biggest airport in NZ and answered more calls from our station than many permanent stations.
Probably more affectionate than not then! M
I hope George's trench foot gets better soon.
It's healed up nicely. Not quite trench foot, more "bare sidewalk foot", but it really just needed some time and care. M
Great Video. I like Michaels layers of clothing. I think I would have another 2 on... Californian....
If I add another two I won't be able to move! M
Great video as usual. Sound quality is great.
Thanks! Now if only we could always get the microphones on the right side of the camera! M
@@MinimalList It sounded correct this morning. You were on the right and Jo was on the left. Sound matched up great this time. Maybe color code the mics? :)
Canal Lyfe: Sometimes you gotta stop and pet the Ponies
Always pet the ponies. Well, unless they try and kick you. M
Absolutely loved this video, such an interesting trip. We had intruders on our boat last year but unlike yours they were there for nefarious reasons at 3.00 am and not just to be nosy.
Yeh we had some visitors of thieving type.... very early hours.....so just let me 3 dogs sort them out......dont think they'll be coming anywhere near our boat again👍
We've been quite lucky to just have the curious kiddos and the occasional tourist! M
Do you spell it Dibdale? Anyways I also loved the lock, it had a lot of character that told a storey of it's history. Also the wear! I take it it was specially designed because of the narrow width of the canal. Another delightful and a pleasure to watch vidio, thanks guys
Shh, don't tell Jo about any typos I may or may not have missed in my QA! M
😊👍
hope you enjoyed your stay at kiddy. did you go and get george some new balls from the range.while you were there? have spoken to boatere who stayed there over xmxs said it was good place to stay 14 days. spend my dinner break up by bridge 37 some times.water and waste and morings glad you like our local waterway
It’s a lovely waterway! We really enjoyed Kiddy!
coming in late on this one and did not check all of the comments all the way to the bottom but the attack chicken sounds like a guinea hen to me. We have them all over here in the states, usually domestic but they do go wild occasionally. They look like a small plump turkey with a short neck and they can be quite noisy if they want to be. They tend to like to sneak up on you before sounding off which will definitely get your attention!
Yeah, it might have been a guinea or some sort of crossbreed, or it just had some issue with losing some feathers. Wish I'd gotten a shot of it, but I was too busy screaming! M
@@MinimalList I was working underneath of a truck putting a transmission in at a friends house, had it in and was bolting things up when something made me turn my head. There was a flock of guineas right at the side of the truck and as soon as I looked at them they started sqawking. Scared the crap out of me, smacked my head on the transmission so hard I was seeing double. And I did not need to see 20 of the damn things instead of the ten or twelve that were there. After the 30 seconds of ruckus they completely ignored me and wandered away. Meanwhile the hunting dogs in the pen 25 feet away never said a word!!! Guess they were used to them walking through and didn't want to disturb the peace.
Heh! If that had happened to me I'd still be lying dead under that car. Like squabbling, gibberish dinosaur it were! M
sorry to hear about George's foot hope it gets better soon . How good is the security with narrow boats? loved the video today cheers
For the most part they're secure enough... we're on ours constantly, so it's not much of a target of opportunity. The biggest risk really is opportunistic thievery off the roof or back of the boat by people walking past, which is why what's up there isn't usually expensive of light and easily pocketed. Leaving the boat for a longer term can be a bit more worrying, if the boat's in a less visible area, but that's what a few locks and decent insurance are for, just in case. M
Happy anniversary guys!!! Just had my 35th. a few days ago. Good music, who's it by?
Wow! 35 years, that’s amazing, congratulations! The song is called Ibiza Dream and it is from the RUclips audio library.
Poor George. Would something like Musher's Wax help those poor paws?
We’ve had a couple of recommendation for that. Will keep an eye out for it!
Thanks for the interesting location! And don't say the D word!
Never! M
Wow the estate have bricked the windows there were old frames there last time Is was there, a famous story about two giants exist one lived in Samsons cave I’ll find a link
www.blackcountrymuse.com/folklore.htm glad you found the cave
Oooh, sounds interesting! Thanks for the directions too!
I’m pleased you didn’t pay the NT who have taken over a once loved adventure playground holy Austin rock
We'd have liked to visit them as well, just to see the restored version for context. But they were closed, so very happy to see the more hidden one. M
Minimal List these are pretty impressive too ruclips.net/video/VmTgY9HcUUY/видео.html near Holy Austin Rock, there’s Vales Rock too
I'd love to afford to meet you folks
Hopefully one day you can! M
Great outro Michael! I see you took refuge inside the boat to avoid a possible lightning strike...... So the boat has a lightning rod and insurance right? Fair locks and clear skies
Insurance yes, though no lightning rod. It's basically a Faraday Cage, though, so not too worried unless you're standing astride it or holding the ropes. M
@@MinimalList Just as an added security measure you may want to consider rubber boots and underwear :) Fair locks and clear skies
Who said I haven't considered rubber underwear? M
@@MinimalList Now that the Michael I have come to know and look up to (only because I am a tall 5'6" and it looks like you have got me beat in the vertical challenge event) As always fair locks and clear skies
Heh, yeah I got you beat by a good 7-8 inches. M
I guess this is M's first and hopefully only marriage. Didn't you read about the D word in the pamphlet titled Are You sure you want to do this? It's given out at bachelor parties. Just a joke people don't freak out. I'm american so no editing between my brain and fingers or mouth. I'm also old so I care less and less everyday about what other people think. Don't worry Jo you can see how he looks at you. Your as safe as you can be.The man loves you and even better he's in love with you. There is a difference. Thanks for the giggles.
Not my first ring of that bell, just the only time I got it right! M
We have a problem....Our tea cup Chihuahua likes to go swimming in his water dish, I am for getting a smaller watering dish while the wife wants to spring for swimming lessons and is mad at me for using pop-cycle sticks as a life saving device...any advice?
Hmm. Bigger teacup? M
Penny Post Sir Rowland Hill.
That's the one! M
Look on eBay for a boot for George you might find better options & get one for a spare search for uk only not China 😆😆
There are better options, but they're hard to get sized correctly. If we were in a house or had reliable access to a Post Office that did post retente we'd order a half dozen off Amazon and return the ones that didn't fit: thankfully it's healed up now! M
sew a leather sock for woofter :D
Would have to know how to sew leather first! M
@@MinimalList its suprisingly easy to learn, you could knock up a bootee in an hour that would long outlast a commercial product, amazon sells everything you need in a kit for around £30 plus cost of thread theres dozens of explanatory vids of utube about saddle stitching and what else you need and projects,, its also suprisingly satisfying george would appreciate bootees made of thickish leather which is quite cheap :D
Hmm, I'll ask Jo about it. My days of trying to use needle and thread ended when I sewed my own finger to a pair of jeans back in the 80s. M
@@MinimalList I use a palm protector it has a metal part for the needle, which for leather re blunt....youuse a punch to hole the leather look up saddle stitching on utube :D
oops the needle are blunt!
Didn't bump into Robert Plant (aka Mr. Led Zeppelin) then? He lives in Shatterford and is a regular at The Queen's Head in Wolverley.
Birds are dinosaurs. It's now widely believed by palaeontologists and suchlike, that a lot of dinosaurs were not cold blooded reptilians, but warm blooded and not related to reptiles.. Birds are in the same family, hence why they are so alike.
Wish I had run into him, but no. And yep, that's why I thought I was being attacked by a thunder lizard, a genetic memory from back in the day when I was a shrew and she was a allosaurus! M

poor George buy some hibi scrub and save yourself some vet bills
Will look it up, thanks! M
Hibiscrub is just a skin-targeted disinfectant, used as a scrub in hospitals and horsepitals. What you want is to cream the sore paws/grazes with Sudocream if they are sore. Yes there are sprays to harden the skin, but most blue stuff you buy is not gentian violet, but a watered down type of disinfectant, useful for hairy animals. Hibiscrub is used like a shampoo, blue spray is topical application.
Good to know! M
