90's pop music was way ahead of its time...Alisha Chinai, Sukhwinder Singh, Mohit Chauhan, Lucky Ali and so many singers really uplifted that music era. It was in its own space separate from Bollywood music...even Punjabi pop song at that time was pure gold. Pretty much everything has turned substandard nowadays.

I'm not a 90s kid but I love those pop artist and band and their songs. Bands like the local train, strings, silkroute are my favourite and its sad to see there's no good band left in India except few 😢
I was working at planet M head office music store in india. The main reason for decline of pop was shift of physical cds and cassettes albums to digital albums. Invention Pen drive killed music sales. which was not easy to adapt for many artist and audience. Second was rise of RUclips which led to the rise of many hidden talented artists and musicians and artists breaking the top tier 90s pop artists fan base. Third reason india pak politics which didn't allow pak artists in india who had a huge contribution to 90s pop. 4th reason rise of Indian idol style shows which led music to another direction. I can give you many more reasons but if you look from spiritual perspective change is constant buddy. Nothing is permanent in this world. These reasons are just excuses. Time will kill everything

Nice video sir but i guess you forgot to mention about BIDDU sir, the greatest music producer of 90's pop era & totally underrated. Please do some research and make a video on him. He really did alot for pop music. His originals & remixes both were so popular but only the singers got fame & limelight. Another reason for downfall of Indian pop music was those softporn music videos after kanta laga, the remixes were good in the start but thn the makers just concentrated on videos & making them more erotic, for that not only makers but also the viewers and the listeners should be blamed.
well Biddu sir is obviously there as I’ve mentioned made in India, as I said the list goes on, impossible to mention every name in a 5 minute video where the topic is about what caused downfall of the industry. And yes, cheap remixes did spoil the reputation of music.

I am an 80's kid and all of these songs were my favourites too, Just like you, I was curious to know about the beautiful indi pop era and its downfall. As per my detailed conversation with him and other senior label executives who used to handle such projects, I learned about the following happenings that stopped this beautiful pop journey. 1. Reality shows on MTV : MTV, a MUSIC channel, brought a major makeover in their programming to connect with youth and teenagers. Pop songs were getting hit but remember when you play a hit song as a music channel you don't get paid / promo ads. Those are meant to promote average songs and big bolly projects. MTV, which had 80% music-related programs, reduced that to 25%. Other local music channels started aping them and the biggest tool for a record label or singer to market their song got ruined systematically. 2. Till the time original pop songs were becoming a major hit, everything was cool and sorted. Music was good and artists were getting recognition. Enters Mr. Harry Anand who with T-series started dropping remixes with cheesy and not so family-oriented videos. By this time audience has developed a good sense of indi music and this set of the audience started exploring international music as well - this is the same time when VH1 started playing international music in India - BSB , Brithey Spears, Cher , Ricky Martin became house hold name and also same time when Punjabi Music started making waves - Daler Mehendi , Hans Raj Hans , Gurdaas Maan , harbhajn Maan , Mika , Sukhwinder became biggest artists of the country. Our small indie-pop genre got killed between these 4 genres - Cheesy Remixes , Bollywood Songs , Emerging Punjabi market & International Music. 3. Yes , This is the same time when artists like Shel ( Soniye Hiriye Fame) who was the son of Oswal Family came into the scene and did give some amazing songs. All of these rich kids were not at all bad with music. Getting a chance in Bollywood was tough so they thought to produce their own music. 4. Getting a music video made in India was dirt cheap which used to range between - 2 lacs - 5 Lacs.Only 2% of such artists used to go to abroad to get music video shot. I can only remember Lucky ali who went to USA to get a music video shot. Music labels are the best thing which happened to the Indian music industry till date , don't assume that they are always bad. 95% Of the best of Indian & Global artists are signed with music labels. They are the best brains and businessmen in the game and still working with music labels. Labels is like a pwerful tool, you should know how to use them to benefit you. There are lot more on this topic but I think I will also make a video covering these points soon.

I think the destruction of the caseete player was the main reason behind their downfall...now,we are dependent on you tube ,...& that too we cannot easily play it in functions .....I really hope the casette player will be revived....nothing like having your own casette library.....
Technology has solved almost all the problems that were present in the 90s. Piracy in music is removed by Spotify and RUclips. The best music is coming from indie artists. They can make good money by doing live shows. I have stopped listening bollywood music. It is very easy to discover indie music on Spotify.

It died a NATURAL death! FADS do that way. Social media era made sure such a "seasonal phenomenon" never happened again! The cassette boom and globalization era made it possible in the 90s. It reached a saturation point post 2K, and died slowly. Simple. 99% of the songs lost their sheen, if you listen to them now. The good videos also aided the music in gaining popularity. Occasionally, you can listen to them and it does help people in getting "nostalgic". That is it.
