I’m astonished and delighted to find this orchestral gem conducted by Furtwängler more than a minute and up to three faster than any other performance I’ve found on RUclips. The Idyll has such a tendency to drag when conductors try to extract the last squeeze of schmaltz from it. The schmaltz is built in, it’s got to keep the forward urge and Wilhelm does it great. And for 1949, the sound is not bad at all, at least on my simple system. Bravo!
