On our recent trip to the Outer Banks, we spent the morning in the town of Manteo, North Carolina on Roanoke Island. This living history site interprets the life of farmers on the island in the mid-1800s. As told through the history of the Etheridge family who owned this farm for over 200 years, we learned about farming techniques, family life and societal customs of the past. We were interested in checking this place out but ended up being delighted by how even our positive expectations were exceeded. If you like learning about history or are interested in farming, you could easily spend a couple hours or more enjoying the tour of Island Farm.
Island Farm Hours of Operation

Thanks my dear friend for another interesting upload! This is a great video!
Love history sites like these Jack and Alice. We enjoy seeing how the people lived. We also love all the volunteers (usually) who spend their time telling and showing all about the history and lifestyle. We loved the history here though some does include slavery. Sad, but still a part. Thanks so much for bringing us along!
How interesting! So glad this place is preserved!

Very cool video! So interesting to step inside this time capsule and experience what life was like back in the 1800s. This also makes me very thankful to be alive today as opposed to back then, for a myriad of reasons. Regardless, it's always nice to experience a place like this. I also really appreciate how they took in the 2 injured horses.
Very nice farm. Greetings and thank you for sharing. Have a happy weekend. 👍
Thanks for showing us around Island Farm! Loretta looked beautiful! I'm sure it was fun to listen about the herbs used as medicine back in the day. The Etheridge home was so neat to see. Loved hearing about the horses. I love that you stayed twice as long as you had thought you would, those are the best places!
Thanks for sharing another lovely place with us, we enjoyed looking around with you & listening to all the great information you give us about the places you visit 👍🥰 Hope your weekend is going well, stay safe & Take Care ❤️🤩x

That was curious cow peeking in. Pretty cool crafting classes. The 3 seater was hilarious!
Beautiful upload. The ragdoll crafting class looks so fun! and folk medicine contents are very interesting! Enjoyed watching!
It’s amazing this farm had such long history and interested to see lots setting of past. The huge tree is awesome with 500 years old🤩 Windmill looks so pretty. Learned lots informations and great sharing 👍😍🌷💐🤗
I loved stepping back in history with you. How clever, making rag dolls and the benefits of home remedies. Loved the cottage. Life was certainly much simpler back in the 1800's, but ones life was busier. OMG Communal Toilet. I am so glad that we no longer enslave people. Loved the horses, well looked after. I loved this episode Jack and Alice. Have a great weekend. 👍🏽🙏🏽🤗

This farm looks so cool. Nice share 👍
Oh this is so cool! Too bad island farm isn’t open on weekends. Love that the cow was watching you hahaha! And that chicken is gonna make a run for it lol. Such a cool farm, love seeing the blacksmith equipment, and watching them make rag dolls, that’s amazing! Loretta turned out great haha. The dining room being the laid out room, wow. Probably a haunted dining room now! That tree is so old! That is impressive, and wht an old graveyard, amazing they still use it for the family (and the horse, that’s so sweet!) love the windmill. This is such an amazing video, so informative, thanks for sharing! 😊💜

Amazing video my friend
These living history kind of videos are ones I'd like to see more of...Great info!
Interesting place! I always wonder what my relatives were like back in those days!
Loved this outing. You both explain everything perfectly. It reminds me of our Pioneer Village, here in Ontario. Much enjoyed.💖💖
Guys i loved this old farm place that you can relive history. It's such a great idea and I loved the home made doll , good job 👏 Cute cow peeping in the window and the curious chicken wandering about inside hehe. Love how they have the demonstrations like the herbal and natural medicine there too. This is somewhere that we would both like to visit. Great tour and explanation both, loved this. Thanks ~ Anna
These living history sites are great and this one looks to be well worth the value with all of the presentations. The cow in the window and chicken making it's escape were both great. Very fun, informative, and well done Alice and Jack. ✨🌱🌞
I think I would have stayed there for several hours too, that's awesome. 😊
A great tour and really enjoyed watching the video =, the place looks so amazing, lots of support to the channel from Belgium!!!! +Subscriber
ha ha... so cute... we love farm animals... especially cute cows that keep staring! ha ha... I just love these types of attractions... and it looks like you had great weather for this type of day... I just got home yesterday from South Carolina... I don't think I was too far from the Outer Banks... would like to visit one day...
Thanks for sharing Your video👍 😊 new Subscriber!!!
I didn’t realize how vast is the outer Banks. I really need to take notes on how you do your voiceovers. That is something I am still improving on our channel. This farm is pretty cool and Rosalie would like this place. There is a similar type of place close to our house. That cow was pretty creepy. Great doll Jack! So crazy how the 1800’s is really not that long ago. Maybe you can chat and poop on the triple seat stalls. My wife freaks on those grave yards. What a great tour.
Very nice
Your video makes me wish we had visited the farm. Will put it on our list for when we return to Manteo.
you are right, very rich with history here. fascinating to learn about this farm and how it was first establishment of British. amazed at the age of tree, it looks great for being so young ☺️ wow deluxe outhouse! lol i guess privacy was not a concept back then. what a great place to stop and visit, i would spend hours here too. thanks for sharing ✨
This reminds me a lot of Old World Wisconsin.
I remember houses used to have summer kitchens.
I want to make a rag doll too 🤗Jenn
$10 is a good deal!!
