    I'm a leatherworker and I make these on a regular basis. You did a great job! Using 4 times the length of the stitch line will provide a enough thread for the saddle stitch. Veg tan is recommended over chrome tan if you are using it with metal. The chrome tan will introduce rust and coloration due to the chemicals used in the tanning process. Nice work on the video and the project!

      Hey there, thanks for the kind words! Means a lot from a pro leatherworker! :) Yeah I'm pretty much over chrome tan leather at this point... seems so much more limiting for the types of projects I want to do with leather long-term. Thanks again! :)

      Thanks for the advice! I’m new to leatherwork. I’m going to make these soon, how many mm thick should I buy the leather? Thanks!

      @@jsthebestperiod131 It really comes down to personal preference, but I’d recommend starting with 1.2mm veg tan.

    Thanks. I’m making a few of them today for friends. I don’t have a laser but enjoy cutting by hand. I’m also putting brand new air tags in them when I gift them. Holiday sale had them 80$ for 4. So my total cost for all 4 will be about 120$. I have yet to find a good design for the Samsung tags.

    Look great. I think it needs some sort of thinning around the circular cutout for the Airtag. I have no idea how that would work, but the Hermes version looks like the thickness of the leather around the cutout is much thinner. I'll bet that step is super fiddly. Everything else looks super good.

      Hey Cameron! Thanks for the kind words! Are you talking about "skiving"? I just learned about that a few days ago as I've been continuing to watch leather-working videos. An inside bevel of that part would be nice, but yeah a little tricky to pull off.

      Nah the definitely didn’t skive the inner circle. Their leather is just a lot thinner. It’s exactly as high as the stainless steel plate on the air tag so it sits flush.

      He needed to skive the ends to make them thinner.

    How much did it cost in raw material? Great video!

    • @FarbulousCreations
      @FarbulousCreations  3 года назад +3

      Not all that much! The leather itself was only like $15 for that panel. The dye and various things were about $10 each, but can be reused on other projects. I probably spent $75-100 total on tools and supplies, but could easily make another 4-5 of these with the leftover leather, and the dye and gum trag will last me forever!
      Glad you liked the video!

    you did a good job BUT it does not look like the same quality as a Hermes not even close but from someone who does not care or from far away it looks similar ,someone who can afford these can tell the difference but to those who are not a customer of Hermes or even want too be I can see being fine with it and not understanding why anyone would pay more when this looks the same but doesn't

    What size button stud did you use? 7, 8, 10, 13mm?

    • @FarbulousCreations
      @FarbulousCreations  3 года назад

      I believe it was the 7mm button stud, since it was such a small item. Hope that helps!

    The fact that Hermes charged over 300 dollars for that little bit of leather is ridiculous! Hand made quality is worth money, but that is not 300 dollars worth. 50 bucks at the most! And as someone who works leather, that’s the most I would even think of charging for that.
