OKC has been on their game the last couple of years and 2023 seems to be no different. Keep that USA OKC train chugging! Keep experimenting and listening to what the consumers want!
Ontario is one of the only knife companies that just doesn't fail to impress. Love their knives, always have great fit and finish even with their more budget friendly knives.
I would definitely disagree. What have they done in the last 5 years that was unique, especially creative, or groundbreaking? Ooo, an upgrade on the RAT, a 30 year old knife! Yay, a buck 110 clone in grivory and budget steel! Whoo hoo, More fixed blades that mimic old military designs and that look exactly like all your other fixed blades! So innovative! Oh yeah, can't forget the made in china cordura sheaths too, love those!
@@Pharto_Stinkus Sometimes it's not about innovation and new gimmicks, they make great knives at great prices and they do what they know best. You see other knife companies like benchmade releasing an ultra thin titanium m390 knife for over half a K, spyderco releasing a million sprint runs etc. But Ontario do what they do best. Sure it's simpler and less innovative compared to other companies, but their knives are still great quality. I'd take consistency over gimmicks and trend pleasing all day long. Don't care if knives are made in China, Japan, America etc. As long as a knife is of good quality who cares where it's made If it ain't broke, don't fix it. They just keep it simple and they're a mile ahead of CRKT with their 50 dollar 8cr knives and benchmade charging 250+ for s35vn
@@Joshuaskehan-mk8cj you miss the price on that, is changing the blade steel worth 100 bucks? It was popular because of the budget price, it was good value. I will not pay 135 for a rat.
Super excited to see MagnaCut steel being utilized more. I've been seeing more companies really starting to use it more and thats great! Im also impressed with Ontarios $15 folder. Pretty uncommon to see new knives being shown off at the show that are going to be that cheap, but not look that cheap. Well done! Ps. Lovin that Seax knife and shape!
SWEET!!!! OKC is bringing the heat with the S35VN RAT. Everyone and their brother makes scales and such for the RAT models. Lots of opportunities for modding.
Don't forget the G10 scales - that's long overdue and hope it makes its way to the budget RATs. Aftermarket micarta scales got my old AUS-8 model 1 back into rotation.
@@brandonbishop1529 I don't have any S45VN blades but from what I can see is the S45vn is better corrosive resistant with similar edge retention. My favorite so far is S30v, S35vn and I'm sure when I get an S45vn I will love it too.
I have a bugout and some Spydercos, but the Dozier is one of my all time favorites. I just love a good true budget knife. I have all three of these on pre order now. I'm liking that it's full torx construction and has a wire clip.
DCA, really wish you would ask all these manufacturers what hrc they are running their Magnacut at. Its so crucial to this steels performance. As someone who got one of the first batch Deka's that was run soft, that steel is absolutely worthless unless it is run over 63 hrc.
Do you know if Hogue fixed their issues with the Magnacut? The Deka is on my "want" list but I had heard about the softness issue and can't really find anything where they addressed it. I even emailed the company asking but got nothing back. If that has been fixed and they come out with a version with G10 scales I'll be buying one. Thanks.
@@John-tx1wk Yes, they increased the hrc of their heat treat by 2. The problem is with current stock on shelves there's no way to know if its an old or new batch. I plan to wait a while longer and will try another one. The 1st one was so bad I wasn't all that hurt when I lost it a few days after getting it lol. I cut a few pieces of rope with it and it got so dull it wouldn't cut anything
@@arrowheadguys7637 From the mouth of the man himself. m.ruclips.net/video/a5lzf8LA03o/видео.html TLDW: as long as they've stuck within spec the steel isn't wrong or bad, it just went a different direction than what you wanted. I really like the new Camp Plus knives. I use the camp plus chefs knife all the time and it works great. An edc version in 440c with torx construction for $15 is really interesting. It seems like a great option for a knife to store in a car/truck console as a backup too.
Many news on Ontario Knife Co getting sold and the factory being closed. Any fresh first hand information @knifecenter? I have some RATs and they are a big bang for the bucks, even in Europe where I am. Very sad news.
So nice to see an iconic knife like the Rat 1 get higher end steel upgrade! I think this was a smart decision, and long overdue. Way to listen to the fans too!! Kudos!
A Rat 1 in s35vn should come in no more than $65 retail.. It's a made in Taiwan liner lock thats been $35 dollars for more than 15 years. A 4" slab of .125" s35vn cost them less than $3 bucks. And probably less considering the volume they order. Ganzo, Civivi and Artisan put G10 on $30 dollar folders.. These manufacturers are going to get their lunch stolen by the new up and coming brands if they dont re-evaluate their pricing
I got a Taiwanese D2 RAT-1 with FRN handles, after being warned off the KC special edition D2 with Micarta because it’s Chinese made. Apparently the Chinese QC is poor, but “Free China” does OK. I still prefer American. Was disappointed with a BK40 in D2 because of blade play. Sent it back and KC graciously sent another. I WANTED to like it, great piece of D2, but weak frame and those slick handles, all will flex if blade is pushed sideways. I think I’d like to try a fixed blade version. Still haven’t found the perfect replacement for my old Al Mar SERE2000 but the D2 RAT-1 comes closest.
2:04 It's sad what happened to them two months ago. It's great that they offer an even better features for their Rat-1, but that knife problem wasn't the steel, but the weight from the full unskeletonized liners.
The upgraded Rat 1 will get a lot of love this year and it’s well deserved. The new Camp Plus knives though, feels like a bargain of the year candidate.
Those back locks are sweet! Looks like a great alternative to the discontinued Buck slim select series.
Those are the best bug out knife I’ve seen, get 6 and stash them everywhere.
Look up the accu sharp ParaForce. It under 10 bucks under 2oz
@@TismFishing Yep... Put one of those and a mora companion is every glove box and pack you have.
Honestly might even be better as these have steel liners added in, instead of just the nylon handles.
