    Same deck as you guys semi obstructed in the 400's where the mystery stink was in corridor and cabins, so here goes....We were on Azura in January and on deck 8 mid ship. We actually smelt the whiff all week and not just the corridors, it was strong in our cabin. Day of boarding reported it to reception, no one came to check it out. Day 2 toilet overflowed and no hot water. Day 3 no water at all. Reported no action taken. Day 4 a gamble if there was water or not, engineer came out late evening and managed to get tepid water which lasted a short time only. Got to the stage if we needed the toilet had to go find one outside the cabin. Constantly told by reception they knew about plumbing issues in the cabin from previous occupants and would not move us.Last night before due to fly home there was finally hot and cold water. Got into the shower water was tepid again, stepped out to get something turned around to see steaming water coming out the shower head and the tap to turn it off was red hot, needed the towel to turn it off. The stink was so bad almost threw up. quickly got changed . bolted to reception and showed her a photo of what shot up from the shower tray drain. in minutes 3 engineers in masks at 4am tried to fix it. raw sewage came out the drain. asked to see health and safety duty officer, told well you go today complain when you go home. 2 weeks it took uk to investigate and check repair logs etc. Customer services rang and offered 380 in compensation but had to be in on board credit only, had i been scalded told it would have to be sorted out with insurance claim for injury. They admitted the cabin should not have been used after a history of problems before.So much for select fare and the cabin recommended by their sales team.

    I was on a Princess Cruise from San Francisco to Mexico that had such bad smells people were getting sick. The ship had been docked for a few days for repairs before we boarded. It was a year before Covid, when muster had large groups of people in one room. It smelled like they were cooking rotten fish. Everybody was leaving the muster room during the drill it was so awful. Then for about the first couple days of sailing, there were areas such as the art exhibit and certain hallways, that smelled of an outhouse. We hadn't even gone to a port yet. I figured whatever was causing the stench was dumped at sea...

    ❤ We cruised on Ventura in 2017, and Azura 2019. We did prefer Ventura, agree with u on the Crows nest. In 2019 we did find Azura a little dated, following our 2018 cruise on Britannia, we were more aware of things like the shower curtain in bathroom, small cabin TV, missed the Horizon buffet, etc. The whiff however - wow. Tbf, in 2019 it wasnt present in the front of the ship but EVERY time you walked along past the photo place & Sindu towards Manhattan it was like a farmer was out muck spreading. So yep, the whiff is certainly something p&o are aware of & have been for many years, I believe its a design fault with the ship. I never noticed any smell on Ventura in 2017.
    As you know guys we were in the Canaries on a jampacked Iona whilst you were on Azura. It was our first megaship experience and I was really interested to hear your comparison of the passenger experience. We really found the snaller ships more personable, we definitely prefer club dining. Im afraid despite being a beautiful ship Iona felt like Butlins on sea and it felt odd to be going out dressed for a formal night when so many other passengers were dressed far more casually for evenings than we were used to. We’ll be avoiding the megaships in future - we are back on Britanna next year which seems to bridge the gap between modern and dated without being too many people . Sending lots of love and thank you for another great video, MJ x😊

    • @CruiseMonkeys
      @CruiseMonkeys  3 месяца назад +3

      Ohhh it’s been a while since we’ve been on Ventura so we need to re visit her! Yeah, lots are saying that area has always been smelly.
      She is dated, but saying that she was super clean, our room was kept cleaner than we’d seen on new ships but that tiny tv needs to go 🤣
      Big ships are good for facilities and variety but these smaller (though still big) ships have more character and the service from staff is better, as you say more personable. The big mega ships are more resort ships which is why they may feel more like a Butlins we guess!
      Awww thank you, glad you enjoyed the video 🤗

The Azura looks like a nice laid back and pleasant sort of ship. Your cabin looks lovely, I like that it’s not too obstructed, as you still have the daylight and a bit of a view. . . As for the smell…. Great video and beautiful ship. My one cruise was on the Emerald Princess which seems very similar. Beautiful, nice choice of venues, but not overwhelming. No smells on The Emerald. I follow several Princess FB groups and have seen no consistent reports of bad odors. Now and then ive seen mentiin of an individual temporary problem that has been addressed. Wonder whether there was some construction error or shortcut with this ship. Problem would have been fixed by now if it was not intractable.

    • @CruiseMonkeys
      @CruiseMonkeys  3 месяца назад

      Thank you - yeah she is a fab ship. Good to know the similar class of Princess ships don’t suffer from it. Yeah, it must be some design flaw particular to Azura as many saying her sister Ventura doesn’t really suffer either.

    I love Azura- cruised in the summer when it was was incredibly hot. There was what is sometimes described as a 'shippy smell' in certain areas- but not at all an issue for me. I think- and I may be wrong- that the pumping system for the waste water mixes up with the kitchen extractor and gets into the aircon. I noticed it a bit around the buffet on Iona last week as well- not sure it's an Azura specific thing or if there was some other problem at the time you were on.

    • @CruiseMonkeys
      @CruiseMonkeys  2 месяца назад

    Hi Guys, great video. I have a cruise onboard P&O Arvia in May and will be my first ever cruise. A question regarding "Formal Nights" Which dining venues require you to dress up? Is it just the MDR or is it all the speciality venues as well. My intentions is when formal nights are on i would like to either eat at "Keel & Cow, The Glass House or the beach house and just dress in trousers and a collard top or shirt. Thanks, Chris.

      Main dining restaurant
      Epicurean
      The Chef's Table
      Sindhu
      Green & Co

    Interesting. We cruised on Azura in early 2017 and there was a smell of poo around Malabar. Our assumption was that there was a problem with plumbing from rooms situated above and it was just transient, but we went on again six months later and found the same smell in the same place. Subsequently, when mentioning Azura to Marie I have to confirm that yes, Azura is "the poo ship". That said, we went on her last year again for the third time and didn't smell anything. Regarding other Grand-class ships: no, we've never smelled anything like that on either Ventura or the many Princess ships we've sailed on. As I mentioned to you on Instagram recently, we're big fans of this class of ship and for similar reasons you've mentioned here with just the right size being the main one. Definitely get yourselves on one of the Princess ones as soon as you can, though.

    • @CruiseMonkeys
      @CruiseMonkeys  3 месяца назад +1

      The “poo ship” 🤣 From comments here and elsewhere on the video, it is definitely smelly more often than not, but some have said they’ve not smelt it. Good to know the princess ones don’t suffer, many have confirmed that too!
      We do have some FCC burning a hole in our pocket for princess after sun cancellation, so we’ll see what ships are where and what we end up on - but we would love to try an older one as the size of these are perfect!
