Cost of living crisis in one of Britain's poorest areas
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 19 июн 2024
- The word crisis implies a temporary emergency that can be fixed and will some day pass. With millions of people struggling to cope with soaring fuel and food bills, the cost of living crisis has become a key concern in the upcoming election.
For many, it's not so much a crisis - but more a desperate, draining way of life. And there's little faith in politicians from either side to do anything about it.

Cost of living is real and it's a global situation every one is talking about without giving a right solution on how to savaged through this situation, i have sat down and think. In the same environment where we have people doing two jobs but still struggling to make a living there are still people living successful financial life, that's why In these uncertain times, it's more important than ever to have a solid understanding of how to manage your finances because even the bank is insured, invest wisely and navigate economic downturns, investing with
the little you have can give you a future you don't need to work again, i pray that anyone who reads this will be successful in life too 🙏🙏🙏
You're absolutely right, you've remind me of what someone once said "The mind is the man, the poor is in it and the rich is it too". This sentence is the secret of most successful investors. I once attended similar and ever since then been waxing strong financially, and i most tell you the truth..investment is the key that can secure your family future.
Yeah there's a lot of sense in these comments but so many people will view it as not reasonable enough due to the fact that many are middle class living paycheck to paycheck
you're correct but most people don't want to explore that. Budgeting and financial knowledge is something that needs more conversations
What about the standard of living race. Especially, in today's capitalistic world those people who are career conscious, having an economic awareness will not think about having family, just because they are earning very less. Hence, doing those job which don't have career growth plus judged by their profession. At last, education system is also hacked by the rich people who have already grown financially during underdeveloped conditions.
@@thomassarah6626Why don't the poor / lower middle class simply save a small amount each month into a stocks and shares ISA? Tax free growth, invested in a wide range of stocks including energy and commercial property, totally passive investment with huge upside growth potential over many decades. £25 per month can grow and compound slowly into £300k - £500k with little effort other than the discipline to save a little every month. And before you say that you need to spend every penny 'to put food on the table' then some people with never have any level of wealth no matter how much they earn as they will always spend every penny they earn. There are many tax-free savings and investment accounts available (ISA / SIPP etc) that are available to EVERYONE and not just for the rich.
The cost of living seems to be increasing every year, making it harder to keep up.
Indeed , it's becoming quite challenging to manage expenses.

I really don’t think people understand just how bad the SEND provision in the UK is. We have stupid politician sitting in their meeting saying these children just need more discipline. Mainstream schools just do not understand or at least if they do they don’t have the resources to help. Andwhat’s worse is when our children grow up, they will be slagged off for not working hard, not getting on and being a burden. They have been failed.
People have no idea about Nero divergent people. Children and adults are being failed badly.
Every kid has special needs now, it's like a badge of honour for parents to say their kid is retarded rather than admit they did a poor job being a parent

How on earth are politicians telling citizens they need to care for immigrants, when the citizens themselves are suffering.
Not the fault of desperate immigrants fleeing war and persecution what is going on here ,they have been sold a dream ,that becomes a nightmare by Traffickers taking their life savings from them
Migrants suffer too, the wars the west has waged on them causes refugee crisis after crisis. Meanwhile the resources stolen fill the pockets of your wealthy elite, not that it should fill yours. But you have more in common with some bloke down on their luck anywhere in the world. Because face it, the working class has little opportunity and the capitalists don't want us to compete with them. This system makes sure of that
They overwhelmingly don’t seem to be. Where are you getting the impression they are from?

@@anonymiss495 'Desperate immigrants fleeing war and persecution' - LOL, you must be having a laugh, right? What they are fleeing is a failed state consequent of ideological tyranny and Islamic theocracy, values which the men (it's always men) generally share. Nothing to do with war or persecution, and everything to do with the free accommodation received when they arrive here as well as widespread political and judicial tolerance of criminality perpetrated by individuals of a certain ethnic or religious background. Letting the boats sink and denying all asylum claims would save the tax payer millions, reducing the validity of any argument supporting austerity or the reduction of benefit payments, and would eventually save more lives as it is the ultimate deterrent for crossing. Not to mention the environmental benefits; less countryside desecrated for cut and paste homes, and less demand on the energy supply.
Having a home is a luxury in Britain today. Renting from a landlord or a bank is not home ownership.
I am 64 years old and I haven’t Ever seen things So Bad!! This is Outrageous!!!
This is the result of 45 years of Thatcherism.
The 'cost of living' crisis should not be called that as it implies it's the fault of all the ordinary people earning middle to low incomes. Let's start calling it what it really is, a cost of greed crisis! Greed of corporations, millionaire/billionaire investors, the banking industry, and a government that works hard on their behalf.

The Tories knighted Ian Duncan Smith. His reward for helping to create poverty in the UK.
The butcher of the disabled
@@piggerGg Not so . Ian Duncan Smith was given the job by Blair and Brown , and thus made the scape-goat . He eventually resigned in protest over how the disabled were indeed being treated . The true architects of clamping down on the incapacitated were Gordon Brown , T Blair , and that blind idiot whose name I have forgotten , ( still riding the gravy-train and then some ) ......... Incidentally , in the very same year Brown created a new benefit for mothers called ' working tax credits ' , although it didn't matter whether the mother's worked or not : £ 330 quids monthly for each and every child . Not bad unemployment if you can get it .
It is interesting to note , the working tax credit thing appeared just at the time Brown's partner was having babies . I suspect the thinking behind clamping down on the disabled was that someone had gotta pay for the mummies : might as well be the disabled . Oh , yeah , that blind bloke's name was ' Blanket ' . 100% it is greed. There is plenty of food and much of it gets thrown away. There is no reason why anyone goes hungry. The fact that cost of living has gone up but wages have not is insane. Something is going to give.

The biggest most single problem in the UK today is private landlords, particularly the buy-to-let mortgage landlords. Affordable housing is a thing of the past as long as the government allows landlords to increase rent on an annual basis at ridiculous sums of £50 per month increases without giving any extra amenities. What the government should be doing is bringing landlords under tougher regulation with fairer rents.
Nope, as a private landlord, and someone that studied economics. I can say the following, the Bank of England is the biggest cause of misery, the BoE raises interest rates, so landlords pay more for their mortgage and pass on the cost to the renter. If the BoE didn’t raise interest rates I wouldn’t raise rent. If you can afford the rent that I am request, please evacuate the house and go to an affordable house, it’s the mentally of the free market.
Agreed. At least council housing is/was affordable but there wasn't enough replaced when they were sold off in the 1980s. The streets of London was the only place you would see homeless people st one time but now they seem to be even in the smallest of towns.
Same with university grants which were modest compared to today's tuition fees that the taxpayers have to fork out for when those who choose to spend 3 years at uni end up flipping burgers at McDonald's
It's this attitude that caused the housing crisis in the first place. If you expect landlords to behave like charities, no-one will want to be one. There has to be something in it for landlords. That's how you get a rental market with available properties.

I dunno if I can make any more improvements without running myself further into the ground. All I have to talk about when I do go out anywhere is how expensive it is and feeling like I should be back at home saving money! Fun adulthood I'm having.
This has gone all crazy, its the 21st century!!! Madness , shouldn't be like this at all 😱
Billions for Ukraine nothing for us Brits.
Great point. Not to mention the men arriving at our shores too.
In life, Everyone is just one second away from a change in status (sudden illness, sudden job loss, sudden accident, sudden loss of money...). Humility and Humanity; key words that we all need to take heed. Many Brits are just on the brink of becoming homeless. Just because you see one in a home does not mean they aren't suffering, like this lady who has shelter but no heat for six months, eat once a day etc., However, she should sell some of those things in her home to drum up money for bills. Many are actually homeless on the streets with just the clothes on their backs, whilst the illegal migrants receive shelter, food, clothing, money. Officials, do take care of the citizens first before others.
Homeless Briton's also get provided with emergency accommodation such as hostels, hotels, and shared housed. Obviously these places aren't exactly nice places to be and some homeless prefer being on the street to them.
Notice how its going back to local communities, growing food, doing repairs and helping each other. Its almost like not having a lord per county isn't working.

How can the government pay for economic migrants to stay in four star hotels but cant help our own people?
Most likely because despite 1m vacant jobs people don't want to do them and the migrants that could do them and pay their way can't work as they are not allowed.
Billions are being taken out of the foreign aid budget to look after the illegals.
And free school meals for primary schools
80% of kids in state schools receive free school meals.
Kids are already getting school for free why should tax payers pay to feed people's kids too? I should get a tax rebate as I have no kids. I shouldn't be forced to pay for people's inability to use contraception
How many millions - or is it billions - do we give in foreign aid? And then there's the millions spent every day on refugees and migrants.
The foreign aid budget has been diverted elsewhere. Keep up.

We need a radical overhaul of the rent system ! We need a system where housing stock is managed by local authorities and a government cap is applied. Also landlords are selling properties currently and families are forced to move on . Let people who want to live in caravans and mobile homes easier make it easier for them to have residential status and allow homes to be used for families who need them. I’m from NZ as well. Our new government is trying to fix the massive debt incurred by 6 years of a Labour government with Jacinta Ardern and Grant Robertson’s reckless spending. Going to be a while before they can get us out of this debt and recession
I lived in this area for almost 20 years. Lovely people and it was a great area even if poor until the manchester city labour council ripped the area and communities apart on purpose. They did this because the city centre is expanding out and they want to socially cleanse the area.
Thousands of council homes demolished and land sold to china or sold off to developers to be turned into expensive apartments.

This sucks terribly but just remember to be thankful for the littlest things. Im thankfully not to be poor anymore, but i still cut back and ensure i dont over spend. Dogs cost quite a lot of money when you add up their food, cost of vets bills, insurance etc. I would say owning a pet is a luxury. Also a huge responsibility. Many people get a dog without realising how much of a responsibility it is.

The cost of living crisis is multifaceted and complex but the trillions printed and pumped into the system by powerful governments responding to c-vid certainly accelerated and expanded the suffering of many. Winners and losers were chosen in order to "save" this or that and one must never forget that no bailout or safety net is ever without cost.
Confronting the realities of this cost and how we are to pay is painful for any contemporary human. It might mean accepting a lower (or much lower) standard of living. Seemingly impossible choices and sacrifices will have to be made just to survive. It could be decades before a time of economic health, societal wealth and political stability swings back around favorably to the masses.
Such times of transition are rarely free of corruption, injustice, and great suffering. Who knows how far this goes or how grim things might get.
