What a confidence builder! If this guys can disassemble this thing, anybody can. Learn from his mistakes! This reaffirms my belief that a little confidence can go a long way....
Ok. This video worked for me. The key was prying off the little Cord Rewind Foot Thingy which exposed two screws necessary to remove the cover and gain access to the Cord Rewinder itself to fix a cord that would not retract. Thank you.
Clogged filters will reduce the suction. The bag appears full, and is intended to be used with the cloth hepa bags which have much better airflow. Get new filters and switch to the cloth bags to free up the air flow restriction. Also check to see if the brush roll bristles are extending at least a 1/4” past the rug plate. If they aren’t, that may be a reason it’s not picking up; or the brush roll is clogged with hair and other debree.
I'm surprised at how many people say this vacumn has weak suction, cause I use this same one and it picks sand up off the tile floors! I love this vacumn and as long as your using the right filters and bags it should not be weak at all!!
You are hysterical, I just got done doing the same exact thing, except my vacuum would not turn on. Which is why I looked up videos on the Kenmore progressive. I needed to take a break and you made my day. I'm going to move on to another project and come back to my vacuum tomorrow. Have a good evening.
i was about to do exactly what you did ! However i figured i would look on RUclips ; , i was lucky to find your video, because i think the same as you ,i just changed the filters and now its fine otherwise i would have taken her apart THanks !!
i bought one of these used on ebay and appreciated all the features but was lamenting so-so suction. your video fit into my remedy sleuthing (because kenmore progressives have good suction). i notice that the filter in the bag compartment in your vid is opposite of the one i have now. hoses, motor, belt, everything seemed fine, so i cleaned and rotated the filter. and now there's better suction! thanks for getting me to that point. : )
This guy is hilarious. This guy is my clone, I swear. I'm a do-it-yourselfer who never attempts to find an instruction manual online and just digs into a piece of machinery. By the time I've disassembled everything, I have screws, nuts, bolts and parts scattered all over the garage floor. Then the process of reassembling everything. Rarely do I ever do it right. There is always something extra (sometimes more than one thing) laying on the garage floor, after I reassembled everything (or tried to).
😂🤣😂 “cars driving by would pick up the dust and carry it to the next town and it would be Wuhan all over again!” Love how you called this out 3 years ago!!! 🙌🙌
You should be the new Tim Allan! Same problem, newer model, good sound but no airflow front or back… No hose obstruction but frustrating to separate sections. Luckily I found your video about cleaning the filters.Definitely too much plastic but this will help many others in the future. Thank you!
To remove the cord retractor bar/button, you should not pry from the top with the screw driver like you did. You should pry from the bottom of the piece and it pops right off. Prying from the top, you could break the tabs off. I have had this same vacuum cleaner for 5 years with no problems except I have broken the tabs off the exhaust filter compartment dragging it out of the trunk of my car so I had to learn how to open up the top to get to the part that I needed to replace and had found a video on how to remove the retractor bar/button to get to the two screws hidden inside that area. It was suggested to pry from the bottom of the bar and it worked fine. Also, when removing the hinges that you broke, try squeezing inward slightly on the hinge as you are removing them.
All that just because the owner never changed the filters. Lol. Well i have had mine for over 17 yrs. Today the motor started smelling like burnt brushes. I got my money out of it. Warning, these vacuums have serious problems with dust and suction leakage. So have them serviced every 3 yrs. May God bless you All.
Lol,. Who vacuums in the dark,… ya killing me !… I think you might be my twin brother from another mother ,… first thing I thought of was vacuuming under a bed and the light showing ya if there’s anything under there ya don’t want sucked up …. And then I started cracking up ,… now ya just said something about New England ,… we might actually be related
I suggest biting the bullet and getting a Miele. They hold all their dust in the bag, unlike machines like this, which claim to. As in, if you open the bag compartment, there is not dust in the bag compartment. They have 12-stage HEPA filtration and are built to last for 20 years on the dot.
I bought a Miele recently and was so disappointed! They're now making lower end ones that aren't nearly as good as their reputation. The beater bar was 'air driven' and incapable of getting pets hairs from the carpet. Plus the casing for it was so wide at the sides of the beater bar it left almost an inch of hair not vacuumed! (Yes four hairy pets makes you see the missed spots). Thank goodness I got it from Costco so I could return it! So be warned the lower end ones (now made in China I believe) are not that great. For one with an electric beater bar you're looking in Canada at $1000+. If I were wanting to spend that much I'd get a Sebo instead.
I have a 2003 Kenmore progressive canister vacuum cleaner that I just did standard mtce on yesterday....new filters, new bag, cleaned body and attachments, because the canister filter was so clogged, the warning light came on.......I took pieces of it apart by referring to the owners manually that I downloaded also yesterday from the internet. In the past I have replaced the wheels, hose, and had to put a new electrical plug in as one of the prints broke off.,...I did the repairs myself...btw I am a woman So small critique about your video. Read through the owners manual to know how to take things apart, and y9u would not go....how does this come apart I will break it.....some of these parts are no longer available..... When you begin your videos, run the vacuum so us viewing audience can hear the before sound and after repair...
First comment sent prematurely. My vacuum randomly just stopped turning on after nearly 6 years of working great, I have the same one. Has nothing to do with the outlet / breaker. Any recommendations what could be the issue?
Heh, heh. Nothing like a bag of left over parts. Took apart my car engine when I was a teenager. Heh, heh. Had a lot of spare parts. It ran. No worries.
Soooo Sears; always hidden screws and weird assembly with little tricks. I'm now hoping, of course, that the same issue applies to my 29 year old vacuum. I'll admit, I was kinda hoping you'd get to the motor bushings though. But really what would the likelihood be of getting parts for an old Kenmore now anyway? Well done.
@@KAFKUBA Well the true conservative is pretty much extinct and what's left is a bunch of wacko's 😁. Would be nice to see the wacko's cleaned up and both sides talking somewhat normally once more.
These are nasty plastic machines. They don't open up easily. You'll spend ages prying it apart. It will break. Then they have little components that will stop working and are difficult to to find replacements for. They purposely design them to break and be impossible to fix. I'm in the same situation myself and I think I'm just going to have to buy a new one. Just not a Kenwood.
You are right but just be patient and slow...I've had pretty good luck with repairs...your are right, but even if a tab breaks there are enough of them that you can secure...Thanks for watching

You have to remove the cord rewind pedal to get at the two screws hiding underneath.

My vacuum randomly just stopped turning on after nearly 6 years of working great, I have the same one. Has nothing to do with the outlet / breaker. Any recommendations what could be the issue?
It could be anything including a worn out motor
Also, if your switch is on the handle like ours it could be worn or broken or dirty.
The ending was perfect! 😂😂.
Shouldn’t have lost that piece

Beater bar not working
Sounds like the belt broke or is stuck or the wire to it is bad...probably belt
Change the filters, thats all. If you have to wait, washing them then change out to new ones and get a new bag

Thanks for watching...I honestly thought more was wrong with this thing, but it turned out to be a simple "extensive" cleaning
The round attachment that holds the bag is not working therefore all the dust and dirt goes into the vacuum cleaner
