I've got a '01 Chevy Express with a 305 I 'had' a huge crescent wrench for the water pump but couldn't find it... 1 1/2hr of trying to get that nut lose I found your video using a old 18" breaker bar & a 3 1/2lb sludge, it came lose...!!! HalleluYah!!! You saved my day!!!!
Dude is on point. When I changed my water pump I used an impact driver. Press it on the same spot on edge and hit it once with impact and it spun off easily. Vehicle 2011 E150 w/230k
I'm a professional mechanic and this is how I have always done it. All the special tools do is remove some skin off your hands, and gum up the heads of the water pump pulley bolts. The trick is to make sure you hit it right on the edge of the fan clutch nut *in the direction of loosening rotation* Not all of them share the same thread pitch so make sure and verify if yours is standard or reverse thread. Otherwise you will be tightening it 😵💫
My pulley turns when trying to remove it. All of these videos I'm seeing must have fan clutch that doesn't rotate both ways while mine does. I'm going to go get the tool
This is the problem im currently having. I have the 36mm wrench that fits my fan nut, but i cant take the fan nut off because the pully keeps turning with it. Did you ever figure it out?
I just got it to work [after much frustration and multiple other ways/videos that were no help whatsoever, before finding my way here] on my 2005 Ford Explorer 😉👍 Big thanks to op!! 🙏😊 I swear, I was just about at my wits' end! 😅
If it came off that easy I wouldn’t be on youtube looking for ways to get that off
Ikr shit didn’t work that was already loose
Worked for us we just had to hit it a few times

I had almost given up until I saw your video!
Worked like a charm! Thanks man !
Thanks for the tip! I just changed the water pump on my Dad's '07 Colorado and I've never removed a fan clutch like this before.
Thanks. My water pump just blew. That'll work great our here in the country. Sweet....😮😊
Thanks! Quick and to the point. I'm gonna go try it now

This works! Had it off in under 30 seconds thanks !
Why hasn't anyone commented?! That looks so easy. I'm going to try this when I replace my fan clutch
Thank you so much that worked. He had to hit it a few times but it came off
Thanks.. This worked like a charm.

This worked perfectly and was the difference between us giving up or getting the job done because we were going to give up!
Can it be put back on in the same way?
plasma cutter works also
Wow that worked beautifuly!
May be a old vid but thank you 🙏🏿 quick and simple
Wow i'm impressed,
🤯🤯 i cant believe i haven't thought of this before. Definitely going to try this out tomorrow. Ive got to do a water pump on my truck
Hey me too, on a Dodge dakota. I like this trick!
Me too 🎯💪🏾😊

In a perfect world!
I've done it a lot and works well, but if you do it a few times in some cars it will maybe damage the water pump
Thanks!
Wouldn’t you still need the tool to put it back on?
awesome ,I almost went to buy the tool
Well...goddam 👏🏻
Thanks
Thanks man. Just took it off. They wanted $70 at oreilys for rental tools.
Just rent the tool from them, you get all your money back when you return it
Mine doesn’t have a but it smooth round, the belt is already off
How do you remove it after this?
This technique does not work on a 2002 dodge ram.
Mine needs to go clockwise to loosen be careful

@@JRRGimli yeah I rented the tool from O'Reilly
@@LilElfinmajk what tool?
Or these is a hole upper side on fan shaft cover. Once put pin inside it, it will not rotate freely
No freaking way. I have to try this. I'm stuck can't even drive to get a tool. I'm gonna try but my luck it will be like welded on lol
well how'd it go
noo shit. it work!
2 years.
Idk wth I'm doing wrong but I tried this about 50 times on my 4.7 and only thing that moves is the water pump oully with the clutch still intact 😅
Are you hitting it the right way
Same here. I can't get the nut to move without the pully moving too
Yea it may work if your car is 1 year old. It will never work on a 10nyear plus vehicle
This is a 2004 Silverado. That’s 18 years

I swear, I was just about at my wits' end! 😅
I'm beating away on the clutch fan on this Explorer and nothing is moving
lol you have groves in the wheel for the belt directly in front of the fan you loosen clockwise. Bet that was a pain to get off
Loosen clockwise if there are groves my ford ranger is that way
Yeah, except when it is a hex nut this doesn't work
This isn’t needed then
@@gasketmasters 🤣
No... It didn't see that
Hahahahahahahah yeah right
i will try this tomorrow...because i gave up today....
