    Guitar: 1986 Jose Ramirez "1a Acustica" SP/IN (tinyurl.com/qw...)
Here's Twanguero performing his piece "El Camino" on a very rare steel string guitar from the Jose Ramirez III workshop, made in 1986, with spruce top and Indian rosewood back and sides. Recorded at the Guitar Salon International showroom in Santa Monica, CA.
Huge thanks to the folks at Apogee Electronics (ApogeeDigital.com) for the use of their Ensemble interface in these recordings.

What a great sounding steel string, why don't they get known more for this? Sounds better than lots of steel strings I've heard (even premium & boutique makers)

This guitar sings like a nightingale! What a gorgeous sound and projection! Ramirez, you made a fantastic acoustic guitar, more people should hear about it.

Who can dislike such a great play?

      Me.
Just, kidding... kinda. Honestly, this is very atmospheric and soothing, but, it's essentially background music for a transition scene in a movie. Also, I have an innate aversion to, "feel face" and dorky stage names.

@Konstantin Ridaya Nothing wrong with "film" music, per se. But, most often, this kind of music is deliberately NOT intended to be the focus of the audience's attention. Its purpose is to provide support and reinforcement for what is happening visually or verbally. When presented out of context, it often seems dull and boring. It was true in Bach's day (see Cantatas), and it's true today. As for dorky stage names... they're... dorky.

Desert Rat, knock it off. Don’t philosophise about music if you can’t say what the video is about; this is about an instrument that is so well made that makes notes so well separated and yet so fully defined, even at fast paced playing, that makes the 6 string sound like a 12 string guitar, or at least sound like two guitars, not one. There is so much sound information there, but you have too much ear wax to hear anything but noise in your own head.

Best steel guitar I ever heard and I have heard my share. Balanced, clear, one of a kind. Man, Ramirez was really something.

Watched it twice today and I'll be back tomorrow to watch it again. Incredible playing on an outstanding steel string.

Interesting comments. This is the style that we learned in the 60s, listening to performers in folk clubs and listening to records over and over again until we knew the pieces. As for not being classical music...first flamenco is not classical, but there is flamenco around here usually. Second, although this is not a classical guitar, it is a fine instrument made by a maker known chiefly for concert and flamenco guitars and whose work merits respect. In addition, the owner of this site holds these instruments in esteem. Third, although this music sounds like folk/popular music of the last forty years, it is clearly the style that influenced numerous composers and players currently writing and performing, a style of open tunings and open drones, cross-string scales, almost endlessly repeated motifs, and limited harmonic motion. And not just guitar music, but much contemporary choral and instrumental concert music. If that music belongs in concert music halls and concert recording/performing sites, then Twanguero's performance of "El Camino" belongs here.

This is like some early Delta Blues, like Big Bill Broonzy and Blind Blake. They also have Spanish stylings in the arrangements. Nice to hear a Jose Ramirez guitar, Manitas de Platas' no less, obviously his being a flamenco version.
